Stayed at the Granville Island Hotel on a Friday night. Easy access to the happenings on Granville Island, and right in the heart of the city. The staff was wonderful, and the hotel itself is top notch. Really enjoyed our stay.

We have stayed here several times as a family (two boys in their teens) and keep on coming back. As soon as you arrive the staff make you feel welcome and special. The rooms may be a little small, but all you need is there, and for larger families they do offer adjoining rooms. Very cozy. You are in the heart of Granville island, steps from water taxi and seawall. We rented bikes and rode all the way to Stanley Park, the Olympic village and sciene center. The boys enjoyed their freedom to roam the beaches and discover Kitselano on their own. Close to great restaurants and shopping right on the island, but just a short walk from Broadway and 4th Avenue. Buses to PNE for exhibitions or visits to Downtown. Though we walked over Burrard Bridge to Robson street several times as well, about 20 minute walk. I loved jogging along seawall in the mornings! Highly reccomended.

We booked here because we wanted to be within walking distance of everything that Granville Island has to offer... and for that this hotel location is great. However, we also stayed in downtown Vancouver and found that to be much more convenient.
The Public Market is a must-do when in Vancouver and Granville Island has a multitude of quaint, small shops and restaurants and lots of art galleries- but if you're there for "power shopping" Granville Island is not the place. It feel very, very "touristy." I'd recommend 1/2 day to walk around...but it's not worth booking a hotel on the Island itself.
It's hard to get off the Island by cab -- we were told by the front desk that it's very hard to get a taxi mid-day and especially when there are shift changes between 5-6pm. We called for a cab and it still took almost :30 for them to show up. You can easily take one of the Aqua Ferries to/from the Island, but then you'll have a bit of a walk into the heart of downtown.
The hotel itself feels a bit dated, tired and old around the edges... There never seemed to be enough help at the front desk. There was always a line of people or people who were being put on hold on the phone.
Our room had a view of the water, but also overlooked the restaurant. There was a private event that went until 11:00pm one evening of our stay -- the music was VERY loud, even with the doors shut and the AC running.
On the up side -- the bathroom must have been recently remodeled, very contemporary and nice!

Dear CandyceW,

Sounds like you came on an August weekend! Granville Island is a unique destination in Canada for its eclectic mix of artist studios, restaurants and boutiques, and it can be jammed on the weekend! Its a bit touristy, but you'd be surprised though how many locals shop at the market every day.
Thank you for your comments, and for noticing the new bathrooms. We are in the midst of ongoing renovations and updates the building. If you ever make it back, I'd recommend coming in the fall, during the week. The weather is still great, and you'll find it to be a lovely and quiet place.

All the best,
John Fialkowski - Sales and Marketing Manager

Perfect location, right next to the best farmers market I have ever seen. On the water and nice escape at night to the quiet waterfront after being in the busy city all day. Coffee Petit Ami (?) at farmers market the best - I will start to mail order their beans!!

This was our first stay at the hotel but not our first visit. Overall I like the hotel - it has a really great location, good views (if you like condo buildings) and is small enough to be cozy. We had lunch on the patio with friends and most of us enjoyed the food and wine (if not the rather tardy service). The one dish that disappointed was an odd burger that claimed to include shrimp and pork! Salads were good. Our room was not cheap for what we got - a small room (plus large balcony) with a view over the parking lot, a noisy air conditioning unit and a window that couldn't be opened. Comfortable bed, smallish bathroom (with no visible towel rails). Staff were courteous and attentive (other than the waiter at lunch). I would go back but be selective about the room.

Room Tip: Be specific about the view!

everything about my stay was fantastic from the booking to the check in and stay...The fitness room is a dream and the rooms are gorgeous and well kept.the view from the room looks out over the water and the outdoor patio and restaurant is fabulous and right next to the water...There are absolutely no more gracious employees than the ones I encountered at the Granville Island Hotel...I give it a 10!!!

You have built in recreation right out the door. Wonderful shops and lots of water activities with children. The architecture is magnificent from the boat taxi. There is so much water activity, the kids went to sleep counting the sailboats that were going by. Great galleries and restaurants nearby so that you can leave your car parked. There is a children's market too. I would recommend this hotel for a family vacation.

Room Tip: Be sure to face the False Creek side
