“Great service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2014

Our second stay at Rosellen was just as enjoyable as our first, about a year ago. The staff, from booking to check in to housekeeping to check out were all extremely friendly, helpful and professional. Once again, we were upgraded to a nicer suite than we had booked. The decor was completely different from the one last year. I can see how some people would want a more uniform room experience, but I rather like the sense of adventure. The value for the price is unbeatable. The location is excellent - mere steps from Stanley Park's lake with all the wildlife and the rhodie garden. Then again, it is only a few blocks from Robson for shopping or from Davie for funkier shopping. We love it, and we'll be back.

Room Tip: Higher floors may get a bit warm in the summer, but it rarely gets "hot" in Vancouver.

The stay itself was fine. We came on Saturday at 3pm and went through the after hours procedures which was fine, but could be confusing. The hotel is not a typical hotel, more like a vacation rental, so there's not a temporary parking to check in or anything. If you figure it out, you can find parking in the back of the building where it says "overnight guest" and then walk around to the right of the building (cutting through the alley) and back to the front to buzz for the after hours reception. Don't try to park in front of the "hotel" because it is by permit only otherwise you may get "yelled at" by the residence who actually possess those permits. There are areas of 2 hour parking, however they are few if any and are strictly enforced round the clock. NOTE: parking is an extra $19 per day. We possibly were upgraded to a 2 bedroom versus 1 bedroom that we booked, but I think we might have been charged for it too. In either case, the place is roomy with a full living room, dining room, separate kitchen, bathroom in the main bedroom and bathroom in the living room. The 2 bedrooms consist of 1 queen and the other room had 2 twins. With grandpa, my 2 kids, and myself, it was a good size space. Room 106 however could not close the window and we did not figure it out until about 1am when it got really cold. As we were staying just for one night, we figured "oh well". So, I hauled the children into the living room to sleep on the pull out sofa (which was comfortable). NOTE2: Once you book, it is booked! You must cancel 7 days before the date no matter the circumstance, otherwise you are penalized a night. I don't gripe about the policy, but for this alone, I probably wouldn't be able to come back. With 2 young children and one having pneumonia, re-booking within the 7 days was a bit of a hassle.(I tried to cancel on the 8th day. No go.) I prefer instead hotels where I can cancel within 24 hours. So, at $181 C + $19 parking = $200 for one night, I would say this is more like a 3.34 star; but, given that most others are okay with it, I wanted to be fair and bumped it to a 4 star. So, for us, and just for us, it was just ... okay. I'm sure others will have better experience.

Though thankfully it is very rare that a guest is not satisfied with their stay at Rosellen, it is heartbreaking on those few times that we read about someone whose expectations were not met. Please accept our sincere apologies that we somehow let you down. In this case it is also a bit frustrating as each of the team members at Rosellen have a number one goal to try to fix any challenge a guest may have immediately and to ensure that, in the event a guest does have a challenge, that the situation is resolved to the guests’ satisfaction prior to their departure. Again, we are sorry that we did not have the opportunity to learn about your challenges while you were still on property so that we could provide some assistance in resolving them. As such, we do appreciate the opportunity to address some of the items of concern mentioned in your review.

First, please note that Rosellen Suites at Stanley Park is indeed a hotel. Granted we are a small 27 suite boutique style property that features accommodations more in the style of a private condominium home, but we operate and serve guests as would any quality hotel. The actual office does not have a person sitting at a desk 24 hours per day. However, there is a Duty Manager available to assist and serve guests with anything they may need 24 hours per day 7 days per week. Instructions on how to contact a Duty Manager are provided in guest’s welcome letters, are detailed in the information in the suite and a speed dial button has been pre-programmed on each suite telephone so that a guest has access to assistance whenever
they may need. Many smaller hotels around the globe offer a similar type of service.

Parking in most major cities can indeed be a challenge and Vancouver is no exception. We are happy to have self parking available both indoors and outdoors that is assigned based on the size of the vehicle. If parking indoors a guest simply walks up a flight of stairs inside the building and they are at the lobby level where an elevator is available. If parking outdoors, a guest merely needs to walk to the stairwell by the garage to get to the lobby level. We are sorry if a neighbor for some reason was not kind to you if unbeknownst to you that you were parking in a resident only parking space. The hotel has no control over the emotions of a local resident. We can confirm that this is the first time ever we have heard of an angry neighbor yelling at a guest and can only guess that whoever this person was may have perhaps been having a hard time finding parking for their own vehicle. Anyone fighting to find a parking space where parking is limited can probably attest to the fact that emotions can sometimes flair. The West End neighbors are typically exceptional and friendly people. Again please accept our apologies for your personal experience which was not the norm in this very inviting area of Vancouver.

Regarding your suite, the reservation was for a 1-bedroom suite and the hotel offered a complimentary upgrade to one of the 2-bedroom suites. Your gracious comments on the spaciousness and comfort of the suite are most appreciated. Again, our apologies if there was a challenge with the window. The windows are of an older style with very strong steel frames. They include a safety latch that must be turned to close the window. If there was a question about closing the window a quick call to the Duty Manager would have resolved the issue and we are sorry not to have had the chance to take care of that for you. In regards to the windows, however, having windows that actually do open is rare in the modern world of hotel construction where most do not allow windows to open at all. So, Rosellen is very proud to offer the option of accessing fresh air by opening the windows of any suite when preferred by guests.

As a small hotel cancellations can affect the hotel in a very big way. Therefore, we do have a 7-day cancellation policy. This is clearly noted at the time all reservations are made, is printed on every confirmation sent to guests and, in this case, was clearly printed on the voucher purchased for use at the hotel. In addition, the hotel includes a suggestion that if guests feel they may need to make last minute changes and/or cancellations that independent travel cancellation insurance be considered which can be purchased through local providers at a very nominal fee. In this specific case, if a reservation request was made 8 days prior to arrival there should have been no problem or penalty of any kind with the exception of any restrictions that may have been placed on the voucher purchased through the promotion and promotional company where the purchase was made. Regardless of that, the hotel does offer a number of possible alternative solutions for guests with last minute difficulties. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and hope that your children are feeling better and fully recovered.

In regards to the rate paid on this particular reservation, the rate was a substantial discount to the average rates as it was purchased through a third party website during an exclusive sales promotion. As a practice, Rosellen does monitor rates for all hotels in the city and works very hard to ensure that we provide a great value for all guests. The rates do vary based on season, holidays and special events but are always extremely competitive in the Vancouver marketplace. In fact, we are so confident in our rates that the hotel offers a 110% rate guarantee. If a guest finds another hotel of similar quality, size and location, we will match that rate plus give an additional 10% discount. Again, our apologies if you did not find value in the amount paid but we do literally guarantee the value in the rates and welcome the opportunity to discuss any rate concerns with a current or potential guest at any time.

Again, we are very sorry not to have had the opportunity to address these specific concerns while on property. And, we greatly appreciate the time you took to share the details of you experience so that we can continue to improve the level of service for all guests. We also hope to have an opportunity of serving you and your family again sometime in the future where we will ensure that we get it right and that you have the experience and holiday that you expect!

We stayed at Rosellen Suites last December , just before Christmas. My husband had a short business conference to attend and our 4 kids and I came along for the ride. Our stay was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and very accommodating. When we had a minor plumbing issue one evening, the manager himself came to resolve it. The two bedroom suite was very clean and spacious.
We loved the residential setting and the short walk to shops. We enjoyed several delicious meals in the area and didn't have to get the car out of the covered garage the entire time!
We will definitely be back!

First, please accept our apologies for the inconvenience with your plumbing. Though rare, just like in a home, sometimes the unexpected happens. We are very glad that it was fixed quickly and to your satisfaction. As to the rest of your stay, so very glad to read that you enjoyed the area and had the opportunity to partake in some of the great restaurants offered in the West End. We all look forward to having you and your family back sometime soon!

My boyfriend and I stayed here when we visited Vancouver for a weekend getaway from Whitehorse. We arrived late in the evening and everything was ready for us upon our arrival. We were upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite which was a pleasant surprise. The location is amazing! A stones throw from Stanley Park and wonderful restaurants. We spent 3 nights and had no issues. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. Housekeeping was really nice (they happily gave us extra items when we asked). This is our new place to stay when we are in Vancouver. We are going back down soon for my boyfriend's birthday and are going to stay here. Look forward to seeing the friendly staff again when we get "home suite home".

We booked on Expedia, based on both their Expedia and Tripadvisor ratings.

We planned our trip to Vancouver to get some business taken care of at Consulates in Town, so as our trip wasn't for leisure, we needed a quiet and affordable place to stay.

Upon check-in, Ted, the office manager, was kind enough to upgrade us to the two-bedroom classic suite at no additional charge! The suite was huge, basically a two-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen... Very comfortable and cozy.

We were very appreciative of the courteous service received and the comfort we experienced throughout our stay. The location is quiet, just steps away from Stanley Park and walking distance to downtown and Waterfront.

We highly recommend Rosellen Suites to anyone and will definitely return next time we are in Vancouver.

Thank you Ted and team for your hospitality!

My family had a wonderful stay here over a long weekend. Cannot imagine a better location: we could walk to Stanley Park as well as restaurants and a grocery store on Denman Street.
Staff were very kind and the service was excellent. We were able to check in early as we got off the train, and we chanced upon a free upgrade to a 2-bedroom suite. The apartment was spacious, quiet, and comfortable-- a great place to come home to after adventuring about the city.
I would highly recommend Rosellen Suites. Staying here made for a very relaxing and fun getaway in beautiful Vancouver.

The Rosellen Suites are literally across the street from Stanley Park in Vancouver, B.C. We got a two bedroom suite for a very reasonable cost, full kitchen, dining room and anything you might need. The staff was very helpful, recommending restaurants and things to do, we enjoyed a brisk walk into the park to the Tearoom for a fantastic meal.

The Teahouse at Stanley Park is one of our favorite restaurants as well. So glad that you had the chance to enjoy it. The walk along the sea wall to the restaurant makes the dining experience even better. Wonderful that you had the chance to enjoy this during your visit. Thanks for sharing that tip with TripAdvisor readers. We do look forward to the opportunity of serving you, again, on your next visit to Vancouver.
