Absolutely Wonderful

Here's a thing, if you don't want to meet other people on a break don't go to havens like The Barclay House.
If you want total 5 Star amenities, like lifts and gourmet food, don't go to the House.
However, if you like other people, want to interact and spend time in a beautiful home from home in the best location in Vancouver , this place is for you.
Dennis you are a Star, so glad to have met you and your wonderful Japanese staff , thank you once again my friend.

I liked everything about the Barclay House. Nice rooms, very comfortable bed, delicious breakfasts, DVD library, free off-street parking, and only a couple of blocks away from hundreds of good restaurants and shops.

We stayed in the Garden Room, which has an outside entrance. Most of the other rooms are inside and upstairs. If you have a problem with stairs you should get this room.

If you have a car you should know about this: There is no on-street parking in the area without a permit, so drive around to the back of the place (down the alley) and you can park behind Barclay House. There is a gate to the left of the parking area that opens onto the back yard so you don't have to walk all the way around the block to get to the front.

Each room has a "concierge book" that has a lot of good information on restaurants and things to do. Dennis will recommend things to you as well - he's usually there at breakfast time.

We stayed for three nights in this beautiful B&B. We had the Mountain Room, a cozy and clean room with a separate cute bathroom at the end of a private hallway. The room had everything we needed, upon arrival there was a map of Vancouver and great cookies.
We enjoyed every one of our three breakfasts, wether it was a bagel, ham & eggs...
The location is great, too, we did everything on foot.

From the moment I step my feet on the balcony, I felt at home already. The place is very welcoming and the manager is very friendly. I love how the place was decorated, it’s out of the ordinary. We stayed at the Haidaway room. It has an easy access to the garden where you can relax and bask in the sun on a hot summer day. It has a queen-sized bed and a pull-out bed which is perfect for the three of us. My son loved the idea that he has a station where he could do his computer activities while the rest of us do our own thing. There is also a Jacuzzi which I used before I retire at the end of the day, very relaxing. In the morning, we were greeted by the friendly staff and served with a very sumptuous breakfast. I am going back again!

Room tip: easy access to garden and parking lot, there's privacy

Superb

In all the family’s travels around the world, we used every single accommodations available from hostels to 5 star hotels. We have not experienced the premiums though like the The Plaza in New York. This is our very first taste of a B & B accommodation and it is SUPERB. My wife and I call it The Barclay Experience. It was a last minute decision since we will be busy on our 38th anniversary. Something special indeed as we never expect this nice Victorian house amongst the concrete jungle in the city. And walking around, The Barclay House is nestled with the rest of the Victorian homes in the area. When we entered the house, we felt like transported to the bygone era. And to think that we used a 1920 leather bag inherited from a friend, we have to capture the nice interiors, we loved our room - The Beach Room at the second floor overlooking the tree lined street. You can sensed that the original woodworks were just painted over to update. The black and white tiles at the bathroom completed our amazement. I had the same set up in my previous Chicago coop built before WW2. We cannot wait to discover the area. Close to English Bay. Sat in one of the benches until it get chilly, passed by a neighbourhood store complete with fruits and walked back. It is so quiet, we felt like we were at home. The room was very comfortable. Internet connection was good. We turned off the electric fan and left the windows open. It was still quiet. We did not even hear anything from the rest of the house, we really felt we were the only guests. It is also near Stanley Park, where we had pictures taken on our way to the house.

In the morning, my wife had to go to work early, so she missed the breakfast. I drop her off at Ambleside and have to go back and experience the popular breakfast treat. And it was served fresh and perfect. Dennis delivered the most talked about breakfast - pouched egg in a ham tray. The rest of the guests filled up the seats and we exchanged travel stories. The lady from Florida ( blame my old age for forgetting her name), was originally from Hungary, lived in the same area years back, moved to Florida and visiting the place (driving) with a friend from Montana. She remembers this patch of Victorian homes as if she left yesterday and she was grateful, it survived amongst the "concrete jungle” (her words). She had a very fond memory growing up and living in this area. I hope I remembered their names. They were asking for the best DIMSUM in the area and Dennis gave them three choices.

The Barclay is no ordinary B & B. It offers a very comfortable and memorable place to stay while in Vancouver. When you come to this place, forget everything and do not compare this place to Trump’s The Plaza. It is a home away from home and just immerse yourself in the character of the home and enjoy things around it. If you google this address, you will be amazed to see all of Vancouver on foot, or on a bicycle.

This is now our new hideaway every time we want to be away from the rest of the family.

Our stay was the best! We enjoyed the service, Dennis the manager made our stay so enjoyable with his witty charm. He did prepared breakfast for us which was so delicious. Breakfast was smoked salmon eggs benedict, fruit yogurt, home made fresh baked cinnamon bun with raisins, orange juice and fresh coffee. That's the best breakfast and we did enjoyed it. The staff are amazing and friendly. The place is close to everything, night life just 2 blocks away , Robson St and downtown Vancouver just a walking distance to the Barclay house. Thank you Dennis and your staff! We will be back and we will tell our friends about the experience!
