This is the second time I have been to Hapa Izakaya Yaletown in the past few years while in Vancouver on Business. It left such a good impression that I had always been wanting to go back but it did not work until last night. The food was so good and the fish was very fresh! We got a bit too adventurous and the one dish we tried but did not like was not even charged on our bill. The staff here is amazing & the sushi is the best I have ever had! This is a must stop place for any sushi lovers out there who are in Vancouver!

Loved this place.
Food was fantastic and the service made it worth being there
It doesn't take long to observe here that the whole team of employees is set about to make your overall experience at this establishment enjoyable and they did a great job. The four of us were wowed by the food brought to our table at every step
I would dine here in a heart beat

First time at the Yaletown branch of the Hapa Izakaya chain. We love the original location on Robson. We were disappointed at our table for four for dinner. Service was excellent; friendly, good timing and informative. Where our ranking has dropped for this restaurant is the portion sizes are much smaller than before and some of the tapas dishes were only mediocre at best. We realize tapas dishes are smaller, but these are very small and not good value for the cost. We had about 7 dishes between the four of us. About 2-3 of the dishes were only average and again the sizes were ridiculously small. It still has a good vibe that represents a different Japanese style of eating.

I don't think this place is pretending to be anything that it isn't. It's a bar that serves Japanese-themed food. It's great fun, the atmosphere is noisy (in a good way) and I've had no problems with the service (they even managed to squeeze us in on a busy Saturday night when we hadn't made a reservation). The food is fine - certainly not the best sushi in Vancouver but it's above average and more than adequate to soak up a few sakes and Asahis before taking the night elsewhere. Oh, and unusually for Vancouver it's decent value.

We had a wonderful dinner at early bird prices on the outdoor patio on a lovely early summer evening. Excellent service and superb mandarin cosmos and habanero caesars. Appie choices were beef tataki and ebi mayo. Beef takaki won that round. Next course was negitoro on garlic bread ie chopped raw tuna. Amazing combo! We had 3 rolls, the tropical roll, the dynamite roll and the crab tempura roll. All fantastic. least favorite dish was the spicy pork ishi yaki served in a hot stone bowl. It has raw egg in it that cooks in the hot stone bowl. Very filling. Better as a lunch dish by itself. WE will return next time we are in Vancouver and recommend to friends.
