I wanted to learn about the first residential area of Vancouver; who lived there over 100 years ago and where they came from. Our tour guide Jorje, an Architectural student was terrific. Our tour took approx. 1-1/2 hours and was very informative. I only found out about this tour through Groupon. Since it only runs until the end of August, I am looking forward to next year to discover the history of more districts in Vancouver.

We enjoyed our Art Deco/Modernism tour of Victoria so much that we came back the next day for the James Bay tour. Both were outstanding, affordable introductions to the city.

I was interested in learning about the buildings and history of China Town so I decided to take an architectural walk. I was so impressed with the guide's knowledge. He was really informative, friendly and engaging. The historical knowledge about the people of China Town and how the neighbourhood came to be was an added bonus. It really gave you an appreciation for all the neighbourhood and its residents have been through I expected the walk to only focus on the design of the buildings but this really was a historical walking tour just with specialization in the architecture. I had a far greater appreciation for this neighbourhood afterwards with transferrable knowledge of some key building design elements. I can't wait to do another tour and would recommend these to anyone looking to better understand and appreciate a neighbourhood! You don't have to love buildings or have knowledge about architecture to appreciate these tours. They have a great deal for summer where if you buy 3 tours you get the 4th free, if you're a local it's is completely worthwhile. This tour is worth a lot more than $10!

We had the opportunity to do 5 of the 6 architectural tours of Vancouver offered by AIBC. Our guide on all 5 tours was Sarah, an architectural student and a born tour guide. She made the heady topic of architectural styles and influences fun, educational and interesting. It gave us a completely different perspective of the city and an appreciation for the Canadian Pacific Railway's impact on the local region. As the city continues to grow and modernize with it's dramatic glass dominated towers it's hard to believe that 130 years ago all the past and present splendor was a swath of towering trees. At $10 for each 2 hour tour this is a must. No advance booking, just look at their website and show up a few minutes before your departure time.
