“Good, central a bit noisy.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2012

Our stay here was good apart from the fact we were offered a quiet room that wasn't. We are not sure what it was but we think an extractor fan. It sounded so much like a helicopter that is what we thought it was. It cut in and out randomly. We ate at the restaurant and diviner was excellent. There are other good options close by as well. No fridge which was a downside. Rooms are very small,we didn't have a second bedside table. I wish I could tell you which room we were in but I don't remember. I think it was the 15 th floor. It faced a small parking area,so we had no view as such.

Saw the Van Halen / Kool & the Gang show at Rogers Arena 5/7/12. Stayed for the night before and that night there. Excellent location. About 15 minutes or so walk from the City Centre Station of the rail line from the airport, a few minutes walk around the corner to the arena/stadium complex, across the street from the Queen Elizabeth Theatre complex, and overall a great experience. The front desk guy got us a room w/a view, they held our luggage all day after checking out so we could take our 6pm flight and not drag stuff around all day, and I would stay there again if doing an arena/stadium/QE theatre function. Good sized room, and all kinds of other stuff, from West Hastings Street activities to tasty food options is all around you.

Room Tip: Be nice at the desk and ask for a view facing the harbor/water area. Really nice colors as dusk had...

It's ok , I had to call and ask for wifi, never told me that we had to use our room key to operate the elevator. For some odd reason there was alot of street people outside the entrance. BUT it was clean

We found this hotel the worst we stayed in Canada, we had an air conditioner out side our room that sounded like a truck reving up every 5 sec when we complained a maintaince man came to see and said it was due to the restaurant and after we were allotted another room 3 floors up....no one was sent to help us move our luggage and still noisy can hear all trafic noise now....I wouldn't recommend this hotel.....no fridge......no kettle......

Room Tip: Don't have any ideas as we stayed in 3 different rooms and all noisy

The Sandman at 180 West Georgia Street, is an inexpensive and comfortable place to stay. Everything we did for entertainment was within walking distance, so our vehicle remained parked in the secure underground parking area for the duration of our stay. The room had a king size bed, which was comfortable; however, perhaps a little hard for my liking. The decor was very nice. The room had a coffee maker, small fridge, iron/ironing board, hair dryer and a nice flat screen tv. We arrived around 1:00pm and the room was not ready yet; which was fine. While we waited for the room, we walked down toward Rogers Area and visited the Edgewater Casino. We went back to the hotel around 4:30pm and our room was ready. The front desk staff were very friendly and checked us into our room quickly. We were going to the Queen Elizabeth theatre that night, which is right across the street from the hotel (how convenient!). We had dinner at Moxies, which is in the hotel; great service and food. After the theatre, we walked around the area to stretch our legs before going to the hotel, and felt very safe doing so. We will definitely stay at the Sandman again, next time we go to the theatre or to a concert at Rogers arena.

Room Tip: If you can, request a room away from the elevator.

The location may be great since it is the center of everything in downtown Vancouver but this should be no excuse for poor service. The staff here were so impersonal. One early morning, at around 5am or so during our stay, the fire alarm sounded rousing us out of sleep. We went out of our room as did so many others but there seemed to be no fire emergency After around a minute, the alarm stopped. We repeatedly called the reception but no one was answering. After another 2 minutes or so, the fire alarm again sounded. We then decided to just go down and have breakfast. At breakfast, we asked the staff why the alarm sounded and she did not seem to be bothered by the information. We waited for an answer but no one seemed to know or to care. Later we were just told that the pool overflowed. The sounding of the alarm was bad enough but the indifference of the staff was a far worse experience for us.

As many others have stated previously, the location of this hotel cannot be beaten if you are attending an event at Rogers Arena, BC Place or the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. It's across the street from the theatre and only a block away from the the Arena & BC Place.

Check-in and check-out were a breeze. Both times they had 3 staff on, so there was no wait. Underground parking was good. There seemed to be plenty of spaces.

Our room overlooked Georgia street. We were on the 8th floor, so there was no noise from the restaurant or club. We were across from the elevators, but heard no noise. In fact, when we left our room, we could hear some loud guests down the hall, but we could not hear them from inside our room at all. There were plenty of toiletries. Beds were comfy enough. Room was clean. The only thing that wasn't great - and I wouldn't have noticed, since I'm not a coffee drinker - was DH found the old coffee filter from a previous guest. Other than that the room was fine.

There are lots of restaurants in the area to choose from. It is only about a 15-20 minute walk up to Robson square. We felt perfectly safe in the area, as there are lots of people walking around. There were a few homeless people, but none of them were aggressive.

The only problem with the hotel in general - and it's nothing huge - was the elevators. They are slow and also don't fit too many people. When the hotel is busy, there can be a wait (the hotel was booked up when we were there, due to Coldplay and Whitecaps). I would have taken the stairs, but couldn't manage the thought of walking up 8 floors!
