We stayed at the Sandman on a BC Ferries combination trip, with free tickets to the BC Lions game. The hotel is old but has been updated nicely. It was so nice to just walk across the street to the game. The hotel was full that night due to the Lions game and the Sarah Brightman concert at Rogers Arena but our room was quiet. Parking was included in our fare - the parking lot is right beneath the hotel and is a little tight, but did the job. The elevators were rather slow and quite often full when they arrived but we made out all right. We didn't eat in the restaurant (it's a Moxies). I would stay here again for a game or a concert.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the pop and ice machines as there was some talking in the hallway in the n...

This hotel was very disappointing after staying two nights at another hotel in the same city. It was in shabby state, the front staff were very unhelpful and no one seemed to be in control. The elevators were a nightmare to use. We arrived there about 7pm after a long day of touring and were not made to feel at all welcome.

Dear Valued Guest,

On behalf of the staff and management, please accept my sincere apology for your disappointment.

There is simply no reasonable explanation for the lack of service you experienced, despite the high level of business as experienced in the month of September. Please be assured the team will be advised of this disappointment and will implement measures to prevent this type of disappointing scenario from repeating.

The team will always accept the failures and extend the necessary effort to learn and improve, at all times.

On behalf of the staff and management, we sincerely hope to have another opportunity to welcome you back so we can redeem our reputation by providing you the level of service you truly deserve.

respectfully,

Michael Lopez

Each year we take a few trips to catch an NHL or CFL game. One thing I've liked about this hotel is how they manage the hundreds of people that drop in for game night and the jovial party atmosphere that surrounds us. That said, was a little disappointed with the two nights there this week at the end of a business trip.

The room was remodelled and pretty clean but did not have a closet. WTF? Wound up leaving most of my shirts and pants hanging in the car. The room was also located next to the elevator shaft and was a bit noisy but you can get used to that along with the regular sirens in the streets below. I think the thing that pushed this visit over the line to not very good was the restaurant service in the hotel.

First night had a shift change and we wound up waiting for about 15 minutes to have our orders taken, the chef then got into an argument with the manager within earshot and my daughter wound up going over to ask for her tray that was sitting there and not being delivered. PS, the food was warmish. At the end of dinner, the credit card terminal defaults to a tip choice between 15%, 18% or 20%. I found that a lot presumptuous given the level of service but still left a good tip for the waitress that came on shift and tried her best with a very heavy workload.

The next night was more of the same but for a meal costing $124. not very impressive.

The final straw was breakfast this morning where the waiter whom we've consistently appreciated quite a few times over the years, seemed to have had a bad day. Besides getting the order wrong, he was passive aggressive when we called for coffee refills after waiting quite some time.

Given all the other times he's been great, wonder why over several meals this time was so chaotic and the staff so out of sync?

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a closet and away from the elevator shaft.

We stayed at various times over a period of four weeks as we travelled around BC and returned to Vancouver. It was always nice to come back to our "second home" . The service staff are always friendly and go the extra mile for you, despite frequent high workloads. It is a very busy hotel, as many tour groups use it. In spite of this, it maintains a friendly feel. Hotel is actually well located once you know your way around Vancouver. Uptown is a couple of blocks away, Gastown about two blocks. Skytrain station one block away. There even is a ferry to Granville Island about ten mins walk. And several good pubs, eateries, drugstores and markets are an easy walk.
Room size and condition do vary slightly due to there being old and new sections, but always reasonable.

Room Tip: Some older rooms are small, and some have noisy air conditioners. If needed, ask for upgrade to new...

We were on a package holiday for 6 nights and this was the hotel we were sent to. We were in a corner room which was a large bedroom but rather small bathroom. Liked the full size fridge in the room which would be especially good in the summer. The bed was very comfortable but another bedside cabinet with bedlamp would have been ideal. The staff that we saw were all very nice and helpful It is not far to walk to what there is of the shops. Although we were near the 2 arenas and the hotel was full at the weekend there was no noise at all. The reception is very small and when busy not much room to move about. Considering the number of guests we saw booking in during our stay, they could do with more reception staff. If you wish to visit Vancouver then I would recommend this hotel

if your just looking for a place to sleep, its a great hotel. Kind of pricey compared to the more up to date hotels like Delta. but hey, its downthe street from the Canucks stadium, and a few minutes from East Hastings where you can shoot up your drugs. all in all, if your looking for narcotics or just a good time, or both! not bad place.

Two nights here before tour. Nice big rooms two bed's this was good as one had a stain on cover.I left them a note next morning and it was changed before we got back to our room , but good cleaning staff would not have put this on beds at all. As for someone like me this would turn me off going there again. Bed comfortable good size. Was not sure about staying as some reviews didn't sound to good. This was booked as first two nights of our tour. But all was ok and the staff even though very rushed off there feet we very nice. Ate in the restaurant very nice a great spot. Staff were very helpful in telling us what time to eat when it was quite. Wish we could have eaten there again good food.
