“Cosy, convenient & luxurious boutique hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2009

The Opus is stylish and swanky and an absolute treat. The decor is gorgeous, and the rooms are fantastic. We were first given a room above the bar, and as it was a Friday night the person who showed us our room was worried about the noise, and secured us an upgrade to a suite. The bed was vast and supremely comfortable, the bathroom delightful with a massive shower and spa bath (and a large window into the bedroom which was a bit quirky) and lovely L'Occitaine products. The mini-bar was amazingly well stocked, but we had a drink in the trendy bar instead so had no need of it. It's very central and I would definitely stay there again, if I could afford it.

I was in Vancouver for work at UBC and had a fabulous stay at the Opus. Every interaction with the staff was excellent, the service was great, and everybody put 120% into making my stay pleasant. I was there during elections and was willing to stay in Canada and at the Opus for 4 years had the elections gone the other direction! Although there was some construction at street level during my stay, the hours of work did not interfere with my stay or my sleep. The rooms are wonderful with nice natural light. The rooms are quiet and have good temp control that did not dry out the room and did not keep me awake. I traveled about 1/2 the year throughout US and Europe and the Opus stands out as one of the best places I stayed in 2008. I look forward to my next trip to Vancouver so I can be treated with the great accommodations at the Opus Hotel.

We loved this hotel. Boutique hotel with excellent staff -- the right combination. No pretentious people; all very nice and helpful.

We were delayed in arriving due to bad weather. Property permitted cancellation of room even though we were within the no-cancel-without-penalty period. Very gracious.

We would certainly stay here again. Hotel is in fashionable Yaletown -- close to everything, and in particular, near great shopping and restaurants.

We stayed at the Opus Hotel for 2 nights. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a suite which was a nice gesture. The night manager is a real pro and got us ice and water for the room. The rest of the staff is also extremely well trained and helped with our requests (reservations, bikes, general information etc.). The only interrogation I have is about the "car service" the hotel claims to provide. We were not offered this once even though we had the front desk call cabs for us several times. Not a big deal but I feel they should offer it if it does indeed exist.

Chose this hotel for a single overnight stay because of its convenient location, and because we didn't want to stay in a cookie-cutter hotel room.

The room we got was nice and modern. The layout was somewhat unusual in that the bathroom is along the outside window (perhaps not a bad idea given that the hotel isn't in the most quiet part of town).

The construction that's going on around the hotel made us circle around the block before finding the entrance. Check-in (on a Thursday evening) wasn't so pleasant as we had to shout over the load music from the hotel's bar. Fortunately our room (on the fifth floor) was quiet and we didn't need to use the supplied ear plugs.

There were a lot of useful (and some less useful) convenience articles in the room -- some of which are being sold to you at ridiculous prices. Don't appreciate having to pay for Internet access (and parking and breakfast) either. On the other hand the soap was free... I was surprised to find an iPod/iPhone dock/alarm clock which came in handy.

The staff was very friendly, no complaints there.

My husband and I were booked into this hotel by a travel agent as part of business trip. We were meant to spend two nights, but only lasted one. After reading about the Canada Line construction, I emailed the hotel to ask (nicely) for a very quiet room. I got no response; when we checked in, late and exhausted from traveling, and I once again asked for a quiet room, the desk clerk was really rude.

The room he assigned us was next to the elevator, painted dark blue, and long and narrow. The bathroom was at the end opposite the door, separated from the room by opaque sliding glass doors. The only window was at the end of the bathroom--behind the sink and the mirror. If the blind was open, all bathroom activities would be open to the street and the offices across the way. Otherwise: no natural light. The space was creepy and depressing, even with all the lamps on, by day and by night. The bed was barely a double and without the most basic support (it had no box spring--seemed to be a trundle). The furniture was modern, but it was already worn-looking. To plug in the laptop, we had to crawl under the desk. There was a huge gap under the door that let light in all night--not to mention noise.

The Canada Line dig is RIGHT beside the front door to the hotel, and below the windows. This wasn't a huge problem for us, since we were up early for work commitments anyway, but we left as the construction started up, and I can assure you that (contrary to the desk clerk's assurances) the noise is loud, and not just limited to trucks moving in and out. Access is also complicated, since Davie St is shut off directly below the hotel.

There seemed to be no Oroom service except breakfast delivery. The foodservice seemed to be limited to the scary-looking, neon-ridden bar/restaurant on the first floor.

When we came back at 11:45 am, our room had not yet been cleaned.

The only good thing I can say about the opus is that the shower was great. That's not a good enough reason to spend your money there, in my opinion. We travel a great deal, and we are big fans of modern design and clean lines. But we ran screaming to another hotel after that first night--and happily paid a penalty for the privilege of getting the hell out of the pus. Our new hotel, i will note, came equipped with windows.
