Go beyond the faceless, nameless, eversame sad hotel rooms you find in every city. This Lodge is in for personal, caring service. It runs on great staff, encouraged people and on a project that is worth supporting. Our room was perfect, huge actually, clean, with comfortable beds. The Cafe provided in the rooms was actually one of the best I drank on our whole 3-week-Trip. We enjoyed our stay and would surely recommend it to everyone going to Vancouver. So, yes, the neighbourhood seems to be a bit rougher. We were adviced to leave out certain parts at night which we didn't come across anyways. But as a matter of fact we didn`t fell threatened or insecure at any time. We really liked the place and if we come across Vancouver again - this would be it. Only one thing we missed - some chairs on our balcony! ;-)

We didn't realize this was a hybrid hotel/halfway house until we got there but overall the experience was good. The surrounding neighborhood is pretty rough but it's within a close walk of several other more desirable neighborhoods. The room was a little small but it was clean and comfortable. Would stay there again.

There's nothing you could complain of regarding the hotel itself. The staff is friendly, the rooms are very clean, spacious and offer everything you'd want. Nevertheless, the neighbourhood is really bad - there are masses of drug addicts living in the streets just around the hotel, and we've even seen them using needles etc. Although we were travelling as couple, we didn't feel really save there and tried to find other ways to get to the hotel.

Located next to a very rough looking area! East Hastings Street is full of homeless people in varying conditions. Even the street that the hotel was on - East Pender - had plenty of homeless walking around all day. We saw drug use, a guy with his trousers round his ankles, and even a guy urinating up the wall, all in the daytime. Worst neighbourhood i have ever stayed, or visited for that matter, and i have worked in London all my life. The hotel is super basic and seems to be shared with local residents. The room was tidy, but akin to a student dorm. The balcony looked onto peoples apartments and were no more the 30ft away. I could continue to highlight things that weren't right......

Don't be fooled by the 'healing' or 'artist' malarky, it couldn't be further from the truth!

Defintely wouldn't return.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

This is the perfect place to stay before your cruise. My company develops a cruise app, called "Ship Mate," and we immediately had to include Skwachays into the app to let other cruisers know how great it is.

It's roughly a 10-15 minute walk to the cruise port.

You can also easily walk to a bunch of great attractions like the library or the Gastown area.

We got a room with a separate bedroom, which was great. Everything was very clean and our room was spacious.

We had the pleasure of meeting a few members of their friendly staff. Pictured below is us with Rodrigo, who is great. Make sure to say hello to him if you see him!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 601, which I was told is next to the Internet router. It was very fast! Also, it...

I think the other reviewers have covered most of the aspects of the hotel in great detail.

When we booked the hotel, we knew nothing about the best areas of Vancouver to stay, so we were going based mostly on price and location relative to attractions in the area. I was a little nervous about the neighborhood as we walked to the hotel from the train station, but after a couple of days, we learned that we would not be bothered by the "characters" around the area. We even walked about 15 minutes to the train station at 4:30 in the morning without issue. You can tell that the area is getting modernized, but is not quite there yet. However, the hotel is in a pretty good location for getting to several of the attractions in the city, and you can't beat the price for what you get. Just don't expect a luxury hotel experience...it's more like living in a simple furnished apartment instead.

I was looking for an inexpensive alternative to a conference hotel, and this was a nice change. Clean, simple, safe, and full of character. It is, however, not a hotel, so don't expect one. The rooms are reasonably sized, but the beds and bedding are comfortable rather than deluxe. No coffeemaker, iron, or other amenities beyond the TV. The guest rooms have a teensy balcony (nice) that shares a small courtyard/atrium area with the apartment building next door. Expect to listen to your neighbor's late-night conversations and early-morning TV shows if you want your windows open.

The neighborhood looks sketchy (down at heel and full of community health clinics and lauderettes) but a local tells me it's one of the safest in town. You will need to check in and out at the museum desk. When I arrived there was no one there and a note posted saying to call for assistance. Unfortunately no phone is provided for that purpose.

On the other hand, it's a block from Chinatown, a couple of blocks from the joys of Gastown, and a 3-minute walk to the SkyTrain stop at Stadium-Chinatown. There's great artwork in the gallery, a smudge room and long house (sometimes locked), and the added benefit of knowing that your room charge goes to support a really good cause rather than a chain hotel.

I have recommended Skwachays to friends, but also made sure they knew it wasn't a deluxe hotel.
