I am a regular at Da Gino having been there at least 30 times over the years and am surprised by the negative reviews. I have never been disappointed by the food, the prices or the staff. I know that when there is a theatre or sporting event, they are very busy and don't have the time to socialize as much which some people may interpret as being unfriendly, but they are jus trying to accommodate their guests who want to be served quickly so they can make their event. I would encourage people to give it a try and make up their own mind.

Frozen food presented as homemade. Surly staff and high prices combine to make this one of the worst I've been to.

This restaurant has a nice décor and looks fancy but doesn't deliver. The prices are in the higher price range but the portions were meager. My salmon meal was a small piece of salmon, half a dozen carrot medallions a, serving of spinach and 4 potato wedges. My spouse had a linguini di pollo with only about 5-6 small chicken cubes. Definitely not great for the price. Basically we left feeling we had paid a lot for a pretty average meal. They won't see us any time soon.

Did not feel very welcome throughout our whole time there. We wanted to take my Italian mother-in-law to a nice meal before the theater which was close by. The atmosphere was cold and we could not crack a smile out of anyone, from the person who seated us to the waiter or the person who came to take our order. Even when we tried to joke around with them their response was arrogant. The restaurant itself is dated and the quality of the food was terrible, considering the prices on the menu. We will never go there again.

My friend suggested we eat here when we were in Vancouver to visit the Art Gallery. The place was practically empty and at lunch and that should have been our first clue. The menu referred to the Caesar salad as an authentic version with fresh Parmesan--i beg to differ, when it came the Parmesan was that powdered, sawdust looking pre-packaged stuff, not freshly shaved or grated. The so-called "authentic" taste revealed no signs of lemon juice, garlic or anchovy--not even close to a real Caesar. Totally disappointing! The pastas we ordered were equally suspect--my creamy tomato sauce with wild mushrooms looked and tasted like Chef Boyardee, again no garlic and a few lonely mushrooms swimming around forlornly, oh, and a single, solitary fresh basil leaf that left nary a trace of flavour in its wake. My friend's pasta carbonara was worse--hers had absolutely NO flavour and since the dried out faux Parmesan was unlikely to improve it we decided to just ask for our bill and leave. The carafe of house wine and salad resulted in a $38.00 tab but they thankfully never charged us for the pastas. What a horrible lunch that was. The main server was nasty but the young woman who served us our wine was sweet although she spilled our wine twice while pouring.

To assure other potential diners that are reading the above review we would like to make a few comments regarding the ingredients that were highly criticized by the dining guest.
We have the highest of standards in choosing our ingredients and specifically all the ones mentioned.
~ Our Parmesan Cheese is Actual Parmiggiano Reggiano it is grated to perfection by one of top cheese deli in Vancouver to sprinkle it on our exceptional pasta dishes. (Please note that most high end restaurants although they may grate the cheese in front of you it is a much lower grade of Parmesan, for cost control)
~ Our Wild Porcini Italian Mushroom are quite expensive and potent therefore using too much will sabotage the flavor of the entire dish. ( They are really from Italy!)
~ Our Caesar Salad is Really Homemade from scratch. (Guaranteed!)
~ Our Carbonara has diners returning for it time and time again.
Not all real authentic Italian food has to be powerful and loaded with Garlic and Cheese.
I am personally inviting any one to visit our Restaurant to try for yourself what we are all about.
We sincerely apologize to the diners about the experience but we look forward to hopefully in the future serve you and have you leave our restaurant in a much more satisfactory way.
Thank You,
Francesco
