“Great location for swim meet”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2013

So unhappy at this moment! Currently here and it is a great location for the swim meet but for the cost it's not worth it. Problem 1. When I booked ( over 4 months ago) listed 2Adults and 2children confirmation came as 1Adult after a LONG while on the phone 3different times this was NEVER corrected and check in was "fun" with that. Problem 2. Requested a " quiet room" not on 1 st floor top if possible - well you guessed it here I sit in a bottom floor location facing the parking lot and busy road! NOT HAPPY Problem 3. No Airconditioning!!!!! It's HOT in here! Beware! Problem 4. Small pull out - this place is for 4 and it barly fits 3. Problem 5. Not enough towels in the room -call to front we have to go get them - walk there ( oh their all out of them!) Problem 6. Pay parking not included in room! I knew this coming I just think when you are paying 220.00 a night it should at least for a non air conditioned room include parking! Not to mention web site states 9.00 a day for parking...... It's actually 11.50 and when I asked why? I was told there was taxes on parking charges! All in all it is a great location for swimming but not exactly what we thought it would be.

The hotel is ideally located if you attend events at UBC and not only. Also some other interesting things nearby (the UBC beaches, some musea, the botanical garden). Good connection to the downtown (though it takes some 30-40 min) and to the airport (20 min by bus + 20 min with the SkyTrain). After seeing the surroundings, we would next time prefer this location to the downtown hotels even if we would not have to attend an UBC event. Much quieter and relaxing.

The suites are very comfortable, clean, and well equiped. The bed was extremely comfortable so you are sure to have a good night sleep. The breakfast was not the best, but you do have a coffee maker in your room and several Starbucks/Tim Hortons nearby, so you can easily find alternatives. Limited dinner options nearby so the easiest is to take the 4 or 99 bus to Granville Str and explore from there. The closest real supermarket is located in the Westbrook village (20 min walk or 5-10 min by bus). There is also a supermarket a few stations towards the downtown (with the number 14 bus). There are some convenience shops in the UBC campus.

Good value if you stay with more than 2 people, for a double room you can probably end up cheaper at the Gage appartments nearby (if not sold out).

Our daughter was graduating from UBC with an 8:30 convocation time so we decided to stay on campus at the West Coast Suites. Very convenient, within walking distance to the auditorium. Room was a good sized suite with a full kitchen if needed and a private bedroom. It was clean and comfortable as well as reasonably priced for Vancouver. I would not give it 5 stars as it had a bit of dirty carpet smell in the hallways.

This was our second time staying at the West Coast Suites at UBC. It is the perfect location if you are attending events at UBC and need a place to stay thats close by .In our case both times have been for our sons BC Rugby events. The suites are very spacious, clean modern and have in suite kitchens and King Size beds and the rates seem reasonable especially if comparing to some of the downtown Hotels...

One of the difficulties of visiting your son or daughter at UBC is the dearth of commercial accommodations in Kits, Kerrisdale, Dunbar or Point Grey. You end up staying downtown and driving for ages through Vancouver traffic to join your offspring for lunch or dinner.

The solution? The West Coast Suites, conveniently located near the student union building on campus, and directly reachable along West 10th.

The check-in experience is a bit lacklustre. However, the suite itself was perfect for our needs, and would have been absolutely ideal for a longer stay, with its well-equipped kitchen. The king bed had comfortable and stylish linens, the balcony was tree-screened, both bedroom and living room had windows, so the suite felt open and bright. Given the price of hotel rooms in Vancouver, I felt that both the room and parking prices were fair for what we got.

It's true that the signage is obscured by vegetation, and that it might be a bit hard to find the place after dark. But these were minor downsides -- the major one was the distance you have to go to get a good breakfast. It would definitely be worth picking up groceries and using that kitchen for your morning meal.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor and quiet -- they'll do their best to give you what you'd like.

I had business on UBC's campus. I thought it would be easier to stay on campus than drive the 20 minutes from the airport. The website does not provide a lot of information regarding where to check-in or park. I arrived at 10pm, it was dark and rainy. I parked my car in the parking garage and then walked to the West Coast Suites building. There was a small sign on the door that mentioned check-in was elsewhere. Check-in was in the main student center. I was then told there was parking closer to the building and I should move because of cost. I decided to pay extra money than walk back to the garage (which is about a block from the building).

The room is ok. It is more like an extended stay hotel than an over-nighter. I had trouble controlling the temperature in the room. The bed room did not have a TV. There was a full kitchen, but I was only staying one night. The bathroom is extremely small. The sink vanity is non-existent. You cannot even put a small toiletry bag (TSA approved) on the shelf.

Check-out was a similar process. I had to walk to a different building, turn in my key and obtain a bill. I then walked to the parking garage and left.

I can stay at the airport and receive a nicer hotel with amenities for a business traveler for a lot cheaper than this hotel.

We regret to hear that you have been misinformed in terms of check in and parking location. Plans are in place for better signage to make them more visible. We are sorry to hear that our fully-equipped kitchen and bathroom didn't work for you. We do offer express check out and a statement can be emailed to you if you so choose. Thank you for your feedback.

If you're needing to be close to UBC the West Coast Suites is great value, well located and very comfortable. My one criticism is that it is difficult to find; the check in is actually inside the Walter Gage Residences at UBC. The sign for West Coast Suites it hidden by the lush vegetation around the building, is not lit, and difficult to see. The building seems secure, and is quiet.
