“Wonderful stay”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

Have stayed at Sutton Hotel before but never the La Grande Residence which is attached to Sutton Hotel. Our suite which is described as a Modern Suite was a wonderful well appointed one bedroom apartment. Recently renovated, it provided us very comfortable lodgings during our 3 day stay in Vancouver. The suite has a full kitchen, dining room and sitting room with a wonderful Balcony. Ours faced Burrard Street so we enjoyed the view and people watching. The Queen size bed was very comfortable. No problems sleeping at night except for the first night when awoken in middle of the night by Fire or ambulance siren. This would have been a Friday night. Quite loud and piercing. The hotel must be close to a response station. Fortunately for us the rest of the weekend was quiet. If not for that, it would have been perfect. Not sure if a higher floor would have helped even. We were on 5th floor.

Location is fabulous as just down the block from fabulous Robson street. IGA market is just on the corner where you can pick up groceries etc. Very short walk, about 15 minute to water pier to catch water taxi to Granville Island.
Service top notch. Would not recommend restaurant on site for breakfast as very expensive. Lots of restaurants close by that is more reasonable. We did catch dinner one night at Joe Forte's. Very costly and not sure if worth the dollars. It is in Walking distance but probably should have taken short cab ride to the restaurant Boathouse where it still probably been more affordable. It is right across from English Bay.

Looking forward to returning to Vancouver soon and would La Grande residence would be my first choice.

Our party of three stayed here in August in a two bedroom unit so we had a lot of space. We basically paid for a hotel room but got a spacious and clean condo in the heart of the city. Atmosphere and service was excellent here. The location is very convenient: walkable to many attractions, a good grocery store across the street, great shopping just steps away. The small balcony was good for getting a feel of Vancouver in terms of hearing and watching the city. We would definitely stay here again the next time, hopefully for a longer stay.

We are a family of 4, with two children ages 7 and 10. This hotel is not only centrally located, but the staff and service were fantastic. We have stayed at the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac and The Waldorf Astoria in NYC and were equally impressed by this hotel. We had the privilege of staying in a 2 bedroom suite. What an amazing room!!! Great location, great service and concierge and fantastic suite.

Room Tip: If possible when travelling with kids, I highly recommend staying in a 1 or 2 bedroom suite.

We are a family of four who stayed here for four nights in August before an Alaska cruise. The location was excellent and easy to walk to everything. There is a grocery across the street which is very convenient. We booked a two bedroom modern, updated apartment. Upon check in, I noticed the dishwasher was filled with dishes (clean, but still) and there was a filthy plate in the dish cabinet along with sesame seed crumbs. We contacted the front desk and they came immediately and removed the dirty plate and unloaded the dishwasher. Still, over the course of the week, I noticed some flatware in the drawer with food caked on. Kitchen housekeeping was substandard.

The design of the apartment was a little odd. The master bedroom had a king bed and an ensuite powder room, but no shower or bath. The second bedroom had a queen bed with a full bathroom in the hallway outside of it. The second bedroom had no air conditioning vent so we had to leave the kids' bedroom door open all night so they would not be hot. My boy/girl children slept terribly the entire stay having to share a bed. Twins would have been preferred greatly. While the finishes and furnishings were modern, some wear and tear was noticeable. Also the finishes were sloppy with moldings not evenly meeting the edges of the wall, paint drips on carpet, etc. Robes and slippers are provided in the rooms but there is a note that one would be charged for removing the robes OR slippers. The slippers were not in sealed plastic like at most high end hotels and appeared worn. The slippers were clearly reused between guests. Gross!

We only ate in the hotel restaurant once, for breakfast. It was nothing special. The concierge was helpful with directions and touring advice. There is a laundry room in the building which came in handy (though laundry in the apartment would have been even handier). Overall, we had an okay stay and liked the location but were glad we had not paid more for the average experience.

We stayed at La Grande Residence at the Sutton Place Hotel in Vancouver for 2 nights left for one and returned for another 1 night stay. The suite was lovely, modern kitchen, great beds, 1 and 1/2 bathrooms. They have laundry facilities on site and an IGA across the street, so we ate most meals in the room. This helped to offset the cost of feeding our family of 6, which includes 3 (almost adult) sons. The hotel is centrally located, so you can walk everywhere in downtown Vancouver. Our sons also really enjoyed the well equipped gym.

Room Tip: Our view was just okay, ask for one on a higher floor.

The modern design suites at the Sutton Place La Residence are awesome and well thought out. It was spacious, the view from the balcony was amazing...the downtown skyscape. Burrard is one of the busiest streets and people are everywhere walking in the evening. The friendly staff made me smile every day. The food in their restaurant was amazing...a little on the pricy side. Overall I really enjoyed my stay, and I will stay there the next time I am in Vancouver. The suite had a separate bedroom, living room, dining room, kitchen with stools....worth every dime...:-)

Room Tip: stay in the Residence Tower...pool is close as well as the spa

Centrally located to everything. Close to cruise ship dock, we could have walked but we had a lot of luggage with four of us. The room was beautiful, comfortable bed, big clean bathroom, great shower! We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel and the food was great.
