Vancouver has the good fortune to have one of the most authentic and beautiful Japanese gardens in North America.
Quiet, serene, aesthetically inviting, this garden is one of the hidden gems of the city.

Once we managed to find parking this was a lovely garden to visit. It was serene, beautiful and a nice escape from the bustle of downtown Vancouver. The handout they provide at the desk that explains the design of the gardens made it a lot more interesting and easy to appreciate the thought process behind the layout. It was smaller than I expected and only took us about 20 minutes to see. It is worth an add-on to Museum of Anthropology or the UBC Botanical Gardens if you're heading out that way but otherwise it's probably not worth the trip to just see the Garden. We went on the weekend but it would probably be even more enjoyable on a weekday when students are roaming around the campus. Getting to check out some of the beautiful UBC buildings around the Garden was a pleasant surprise!

Although it is small it is an oasis in the middle of the jungle. The garden is a nice quiet spot to visit. There is a pond in the middle with paths and bridges to wander about. Very peaceful.

Nitobe is a very beautiful, peaceful garden, albeit quite small. It is quite difficult to get to by bus and there are no toilet facilities there. However Canadian hospitality is amazing the gentleman at the kiosk was so friendly and helpful. He told us to use the toilet facilities at the Museum of Anthropology which is about a 4 to 5 minute walk away and you can use the facilities without having to pay admission fee. He also very kindly let us use our NSW Australian Senior discount cards - even though ours start at 60. The price for an adult is $13 now so we were extremely happy with our senior discount.
