“Excellent but waiting is another......”
Reviewed 7 May 2014 via mobile

Was there on Friday night and anytime your around opening time to around 8ish, expect a long wait as it's small dining with fine Japanese staff! The food is wonderful, fresh sashimi, udon noodles, gyoza and rolls! And they use wild salmon rather than farmed salmon! I would definitely go back there again but again, be prepare for long wait!

“Superior Sushi”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

Just had dinner and lined up before it opened at 5 pm. The two of us arrived about 15 minutes early and joined the lineup and got two seats at the sushi bar so a good start. Very casual place and spartan decorated. People are there for the good Japanese food. Definitely, given the moderate prices and the quality of the sushi, sashimi and fried chicken this place is worthy of a visit. Compared to the hundreds of other sushi joints in Vancouver, this is good value for your money. We ordered a plate of the toro sashimi and it was tender and tasty. Everything we ate was far above average, yet decently priced. Servers were friendly and pretty attentive. In fact, when our glasses of water ran low, they were there to fill them up. If possible, get there early. There are lineups before opening and lineups after opening. People usually queue for a reason.

“Sushi Nazis of Vancouver”
Reviewed 31 March 2014 via mobile

The food is supposed to be good. The process of getting a table is another. We were at the restaurant at 9.20 please. We were in line until 9.40 and a four top opened up. The hostess asked if we would sit with 2 individual strangers. We were tired and didn't want to meet new strangers. The hosts indicated that because we would not sit with them that they, the two individuals would get our place and we would have to wait some more. We were being punished. The place was practically closed. I would say why feel persecuted to go out to eat, nothing is that worth it.

“Toshi after Tai Chi”
Reviewed 11 December 2013 via mobile

How eclectic we were sushi and tai chi in one night. This sushi was perfect. Salmon sashimi and spicy tuna roll along with my wife's scallop role, miso, sweet potato tempura and chicken karage. What a super meal, fresh, tasty, great service and simple setting. We are going back for more tastes and selections. So much to choose from. Yummy. Arigato Toshi.

“Way, way, wayyyyyy overrated.”
Reviewed 30 November 2013 via mobile

Way, way, way overhyped.

I have been to this restaurant twice now in the span of 2 years and it has never improved over the level of service and food quality. Very disappointing given the long wait (1 hour) to get a table.

Food:
Since this is a sushi restaurant, I would expect the sushi to be properly made. Not only the seaweed was crispy and dry which is a minimum, the nigiri wasn't gripped properly so pieces of rice actually fell off when you pick it up. The seafood (fish, scallops, etc) is actually quite fresh so kudos to them on that.

Service.
Both times we went in a group of 3 or more and we had difficult time getting a table. Instead of letting the big group of customers who arrived earlier to be given a table, they kept letting those in parties of 2 to be seated to the point that when we finally have a table, the party of 2 who came right after us actually finished their meal when we order our food! Also at no point there was any apology given for the situation.

I really don't see why people rave about this. I have been to sushi restaurants in japan, and many places in Asia so this place is really a waste of time and I highly suspect the sushi chefs there have been properly trained.
