“Fabulous Bed and Breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2008

I stayed at Raceview in early March this year. The room was lovely and spacious. Sharon and Doug have a lovely home. The view of the ocean in the distance was very soothing. When it comes to food, Sharon certainly goes out of her way with very special breakfast surprises. This place is a great retreat just outside the hustle and bustle of the city. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2008

We’ve been here before, but I am only now getting up a review after a lovely stay at Race View B&B. It’s just outside of downtown Victoria, less than a half hour, but feels like a retreat since it’s in the country with fabulous views and with Sharon ensuring that everything is perfect.

The suite is very large and includes a sitting area looking over the magnificent views both pastoral and the ocean. There is a small kitchen which we did not use, but it would have been just fine had I wanted to arrange to eat “in.” The deck is very private, as is the entrance to the suite. We saw the hosts at breakfast and when Sharon popped in to deliver treats, but otherwise, we just had ourselves to answer to.

We could have chosen to have breakfast in our suite, on our deck or upstairs on another deck for variety. We ate in Sharon’s dining room, and I wish I’d taken pictures of everything, it was so fabulous. One morning we had a banana dish that she says is easy, but isn’t everything when you know how? The yogurt was specially strained so it was very thick, and had blackberries which Sharon had picked on “her mountain.” We had agreed upon breakfast from several of the choices that she gave us for breakfast, and a taste of salmon was a big hit.

Evening treats provided for us with a bottle of champers kept us from going out for dinner one night--we had asked Sharon for a special package that included some of Doug’s freshly caught fish and she was very accommodating tailoring it to our request. She even said she could arrange a fishing trip even though we’re not experienced in that at all. We live a reasonable distance away and could have taken it home to freeze, but, another time. We did manage to make use of walking paths in the area. We even watched Sharon hand feed the deer! Now that was an amazing treat!!!

The whole place is spotlessly clean. No worries there. The bathroom is in the suite with nice amenities provided. The shower was great. Parking is no problem and there's a circle driveway, so the dreaded backing up just isn't an issue! Easy!

The other dinner, we went to MyChosin Cafe--a play on the area’s name Metchosin-- and we had a very reasonable and tasty meal near the fireplace. It was perfect. There were several artist’s workshops that Sharon suggested and we visited one leaving many for another time, which there will be. This is a true escape for us city folk, yet we could have ducked into the city easily with no problem if that had been in our plans. The last time, we went to Hatley Castle and explored the Japanese garden right on the ocean. I’d recommend that, too. We’ll be back for the food, the comfortable bed, the food, the relaxing space, the food, and the deer, which they do not turn into food!
