“Best in Victoria”

Recently opened we were told. Creates a new standard for hotel quality and service in Victoria. We used to stay at The Empress for the ambiance and the history. Once you try this hotel you will not go back.

This was an outstanding experience. The front desk is so accommodating and patient, and they will help you plan out your day-to-day trip if they think it's necessary. I loved Katie!!

Didn't get to try out their mineral pools, sadly, but this hotel has the most comfortable and high quality linens I have ever slept on. The bed is truly a cloud. Housekeeping is great and the bathroom is gorgeous!! Huge tub, best showerheads ever, and soaps that smell absolutely wonderful.

Also, Oak Bay's downstairs food was the best meals we had in Canada. The dinner at the formal dining room was phenomenal. A must-try. (Waaay better than any food at The Marina a mile or so away.) Kate's Cafe made for an easy breakfast and a quick afternoon tea stop! Loved the tiramisu. They also have a dinner menu with lighter options and lower prices.

Minuses: no business center, iffy Wi-Fi, and distance from downtown. However, they do offer a free driver service (tip not included) to any downtown destination! We used this service several times and the drivers are really nice. However, you'll need to reserve a driver because time slots fill up.

All in all, LOVE Oak Bay and would definitely return.

The Hotel is really lovely. The staff was very professional and courteous. They are available every second of your stay to make it enjoyable and comfortable. The Hotel itself is stunning along with the coffee shop and pub inside. If I lived there I would dine there frequently. The dinner in the dining room was exemplary and the service stellar. The pool and hotubs are a wonderful experience and they provide you with robes to travel back and forth to them. I would recommend this Hotel over the Empress because it is such a beautiful, new and clean Hotel. The rooms are modern and elegant with INCREDIBLE views. I cannot imagine staying anywhere else on my next visit to Victoria BC.

Room Tip: It seems to me all the rooms are lovely because of the way the Hotel is built and it's location...

We came here to relax and got exactly that. The hotel is about 15 minutes drive from downtown Victoria away from all the tourists. We got a room with beautiful view of the ocean. The room itself was very clean and modern. The staff at the Snug Pub restaurant was very friendly and the food was delicious. The staff at the spa was remarkable, as well. But the best part was relaxing outdoor in their warm mineral pool on a cool day.

After over-analyzing every well rated hotel in Victoria, we chose to try the Oak Bay as it is situated out of town and would be free of the cruise boat tourists who take over the major shopping areas by swarm.

FIRST IMPRESSION - The hotel is a beautiful 10-15 minute drive from the ferry terminal. The Beach Street neighborhood has several very large and stately mansions with wonderful ocean views. The hotel has a very pleasing facade and landscaping. We were immediately greeted and the bellman helped unload our bags.

CHECK-IN - I had seen a review stating that construction in the lobby had recently finished so was very disappointing to see construction still ongoing in the lobby. It was so very noisy that I could not hear most of the questions the desk clerk asked during check-in. I was surprised that management was not using a well known tactic of moving people off to a separate area for a personal check-in when construction is occurring right next to the front desk. This always starts the stay out with a good impression.,..which we did not receive. We were assured that the clerk "believed" that the construction would not continue over the weekend...

THE ROOM - Lovely...well appointed and new, very clean for hotel room standards. We were not able to spend much time at the resort so chose the non-view room. It had two queen beds, a small round table with two chairs and a loveseat. The little kitchen area had a small refrigerator, coffee maker/tea pot, and a microwave along with a nice supply of kitchen ware. As we found, the beds were a bit too hard for us and would not be something we could tolerate long-term. I did note at check-out that bed toppers area available or just request one or two more duvets to sleep on top of. Also, the beds are quite tall and could be a bit difficult to get in to if you are on the short side or have mobility issues...same with the very tall and deep tub.

The bathroom was gorgeous and well worth the trip. Double above counter sinks, over-sized shower, and a very large and deep tub. If you like, there are sliding door panels that can be opened to look out from the large bath into the bedroom...think honeymoon! We were surprised to see that all of the bath towels were over-sized as well...what we in the States call hand towels for washcloths, regular towels for hand towels and over sized almost bath sheets for bath towels. Oh and did I say that the tile floor had in-floor heat...more about that later.

The view was off out into the trees if you looked straight out but really looked down on leaf covered parking stalls.

THE SERVICE - The bellman did a great job acquainting us with the room and made sure we knew how to manage the many settings and lights. We did confirm that the air conditioning was turned on as have had many a too hot night when traveling between seasons...more about this later also. The hotel does have a shuttle that you can schedule to go downtown should you every wish to leave the water view and grounds.

THE SPA - We did partake in the swimming pool and mineral pools available at the edge of the water. Beautiful and relaxing with just the right amount of service. The guests having spa treatments all seemed quite happy.

THE FOOD - We ate at all three restaurants. The Snug Pub is a great place for a pint or a quick nosh. They have seating outside and will bring you a very soft blanket when the air gets nippy. Kate's Cafe is the place to go for a morning latte, dessert or a small sandwich. And, best of all, is the gourmet food at The Dining Room. We were never disappointed!

THE GOOD - The venue, the food, the overall room, the service!

THE BAD - The heated tile floor in the bathroom would not turn down or off (we had to call down for engineering), the air conditioning did not work but, thank heaven, the windows and sliding glass door did open so we could sleep. Our room was also close to the street and since we had to sleep with the windows open, it was more than difficult to sleep in.

WOULD WE GO AGAIN - You bet but I will call first to ensure the construction is finished and will request a bed topper!

Room Tip: Try to stay away from the front of the hotel. The road noise can wake one up VERY EARLY. If you...

Dear Vostie
Thank you so much for choosing our Manor House by the sea in quaint Oak Bay as your hotel of choice during your recent visit to Victoria. Our sincere apologies in regards to the lobby floor work that was being done; we are so fussy about being perfect that we are re-installing the entire floor. We are trying our best to do this work with the least amount of guest disruption by keeping the working hours between 10am and 4pm on weekdays only. We are so pleased to hear that you had an opportunity to enjoy so many of our guest amenities and food and beverage outlets and thank you for all your kinds words. We will be sure to make a note on your guest profile to have your room prepared with a bed topper for any future visits and ensure that everything in the guest room is in full operational order. Please feel free to contact me directly the next time you are visiting our fine City as we would appreciate the opportunity to do something extra special for you during your stay.

This hotel was fabulous. Our room was beautiful...had amazing views of the water and mountain. Food at the Snug Pug was delicious and the staff was very friendly. We also had a couple spa services which were both amazing. Can't wait to stay there again.
