Our first stay at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel was fabulous and will result in our return. We have two teenagers who equally enjoyed the place.

Room
We booked a regular room, marina view with two queen beds. Very spacious and a nice-sized bathroom. So often these rooms don't have space for 4 suitcases... but this one did! Two weddings were going on... we heard NOTHING in our rooms at night, so very quiet. We loved the privacy/make up my room buttons. One day we forgot to hit the "make up our room button" and as a result when we returned at 5pm... it was untouched. However, the staff quickly came in once we brought this to their attention. Having a fridge was very handy with two always-hungry teenagers.

Staff
Super helpful and friendly. I would say they were a big part of our positive experience. From housekeeping to front desk and restaurants, all were impeccably trained and helpful.

Overall facilities
It's obvious that a lot of thought went into this hotel before it was built. Best practices such as a service elevator, complimentary (and ample) parking, privacy light versus a don't disturb door knob sign, variety of restaurants, spacious double-sink bathroom, elevators away from sleeping quarters, wonderful sitting areas on main floor, gorgeous views from balconies, etc. played a role in our positive experience.

Restaurants
The food was very good. We tried all three options: the cafe, the pub and the fine dining. One thing to note was the the service was quite slow. If we asked for expediency, we got it, but you did have to ask. The wine menu was somewhat overpriced; however, it included a fine selection.

Location
Fantastic. The views were amazing and it's just a 10 minute was to the quaint Ok Bay Village area.

Room Tip: It's best to book their fine dining restaurant ahead of time. It's quite small and fills up...

After reading very positive reviews we booked six nights at the OBB Hotel for a family vacation with our three adult "kids". We were all very pleased with the hotel, its staff and convenient location. We especially liked its location in Oak Bay - a quaint area of town that offers several good restaurants and convenient shopping. It is a short drive and bike ride from Oak Bay to the Inner Harbour. The hotel offers beautiful views of the Haro Strait looking east to the San Juan Islands. The hotel rooms are well appointed, clean and quiet. The heated mineral pools are a great place to relax after a full day of activities. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. We were pleasantly surprised by the Snug Pub which featured some tasty and prepared to order sushi rolls and pub fare. We were very glad that we took advantage of the hotel-based activities including bike rentals, kayaking (highly recommended) and morning yoga.

It was helpful having a rental car which we used to get around the area including trips to Vancouver, Cordova Bay Golf Course, the Inner Harbour and the Goldstream Provincial Park (I recommend the climb up Mt. Finlayson for the adventuresome).

This was a 5-star vacation for us and it all started at and with the Oak Bay Beach Hotel. We're looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Request ocean facing suite and 3rd floor or higher.

This hotel is a dream come true! Our children actually planned a trip for us to this magnificent place. We were treated like royalty from the moment they picked us up at the Victoria airport through to the very end when they dropped us off - in a Rolls Royce, none the less! We absolutely loved this beautiful, historic hotel. All of the staff felt like family by the time we left. They were so professional and attentive to our every need. The rooms are so beautiful and the view from our room absolutely took our breath away as we looked out to the sea! We loved being so close to Victoria, but enough away that we could relax in such elegant and relaxing surroundings. The minerals pools were so inviting and rejuvenating. I loved the spa and the staff there - so professional and good at what they do. This has truly become one of our favorite places and we will certainly be returning to The Oak Bay Beach Hotel.

My husband and I just returned to New York after 2 glorious nights at this wonderful resort. This hotel is absolutely breathtaking! The rooms are extremely comfortable with great amenities. The best thing about this hotel is the staff - every one of them was so friendly and helpful, it was apparent that they all really enjoy working at the resort. Another great thing about the property is that they provide car service to and from downtown Victoria when you need it- which is very helpful as the downtown area is about 15 minutes away, which would be a $15 cab ride. The pool, spa and food were all terrific. The only negative (and it really was not a big deal) is that they don't have enough lounge chairs by the pool. It seems that people come for the day and use the chairs and they get filled up early. There are plenty of other chairs though so it wasn't a problem. All in all, this was a fantastic stay, truly a special experience.

Dear AlyHG
We are thrilled to hear that you had such an incredible vacation and thank you so much for your kind word about our hotel staff. I have passed along your words to all of them. Our seaside pools are a very popular place, especially with this amazing summer weather we are experiencing, and to that end we have indeed added some more lounge chairs so even more guests can enjoy this area.
We do hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back on any future visits to Vancouver Island.
Best regards

This hotel is absolutely wonderful. We have stayed as a couple and it was superb!!
We stayed as a family and if you want to have breakfast, lunch and dinner in the coffee
shop you will be content. Children are not permitted into the pub/restaurant ... Your
choice is to drive somewhere for dinner... eat in the formal dining room with children
and who wants to waste that kind of money bothering other guests who are out for a
special occasion....eat once again in the coffee shop (for dinner!!!) or if you are lucky
the snarky little hostess will tell you that you might be able to be served on a coffee
table in the hotel lounge!!! We saw several unhappy guests doing this!!
But, we had a fabulous server named Cherylynn who happily served us in the lobby
and went out of her way to make the meal as pleasant as possible.
So... do stay at this hotel but maybe go elsewhere if you want to eat with your kids!

Go someplace else if you have children under 19!

No children... you will love it.

Room Tip: Every room seems to be wonderful and ultra clean.

Dear 490baby
It was a pleasure to once again welcome you back to the Oak Bay Beach hotel. We are pleased to hear that you had an enjoyable stay but saddened to learn that you found our family dining options limited.
We have chosen to maintain The Snug pub as a traditional English style pub for those guests over the age of 19. Our valued guests under the age of 19 are welcome in The Dining Room, The Snug or Kate’s Cafe for breakfast and in our Dining Room, with our more casual menu, Kate’s Café or poolside for salads and sushi for lunch. During the evening Kate’s Café and Patio offers an a la carte menu that offers many of the same pub style items as The Snug pub and The Dining room welcomes children wishing to enjoy a more formal dining experience. We also offer in-room dining during any of our meal periods should guests choose to eat in their guestroom or on their deck.
It seems that we did not clearly outline these options for you and your family and for that we sincerely apologize. We will be sure to more clearly define our family dining options to all families upon their arrival.
We do hope to welcome you back as both a couple and a family!
Best regards

Locals don't often get a chance (or have the need) to experience their hometown's many fine hotels or sights in the same way that tourists and visitors do. And why would they? But, as someone who was born, raised, and has lived in Victoria my whole life, it's a real treat when you uncover a hidden gem. The Oak Bay Beach Hotel is just such one gem.

My wife (also Victoria-born-and-raised) and I celebrated our four year anniversary but needed to be relatively close to home because of our baby girl being babysat overnight, and having visited the OBBH previously with some friends, wanted someplace (1) close (2) relatively affordable and (3) with a relaxing pool. As a frequent business traveler, I've stayed in enough hotels to notice the small things that set one hotel off from the rest. The OBBH excels in the little, nice touches, and neither of us were disappointed.

We kept our one-nighter on the affordable side by booking mid-week, and took advantage of the hotel's midweek special with $40 gift card (this essentially paid for half of dinner). The weekend rates are not for the budget conscious, but given the cleanliness of the hotel, the attention to detail, the stellar service, setting (ocean and mountain views), and convenience, it is worth the range of prices. The room (courtyard facing, fifth floor) was immaculately clean, the linen of the highest quality, and the robes came in handy for visits to the pool. My only minor, minor gripe is that the bathroom fan--which has to remain on for air circulation apparently--was somewhat noisy; we had to shut the bathroom door and swinging bathtub doors to muffle the sound.

Did I mention the pool? A warm, mineral swimming pool with direct views of the ocean; it's open 24 hours, too. The pub is wonderful, and the food solid. The fish and chips were not spectacular (overly dark batter on the fish), but solid and the beer and wine selection good. The service in the pub was likewise top notch. For breakfast, we opted for a croissant and coffee at Kate's Cafe. My only feedback on the cafe is that the patio is a bit bare, with perhaps slightly more comfortable seats being a suitable choice. Nevertheless, it was a pleasant place to sit, drink coffee, and read the paper. Finally, free underground parking and free WiFi is a nice touch.

Overall, my wife and I couldn't've been more pleased, would highly recommend this hotel, and will definitely return on our next in-town getaway!

Room Tip: Any room is likely going to be fine. If you want to save a bit, pick a courtyard view room because i...
