A conference at the Empress prompted this trip and were excited to stay at such a beautiful site. The grounds, in keeping with most of Victoria, are abundant with foliage and replete with artfully planted flowers. The room itself, however, was average. It was certainly big by European standards but small by American. The staff is friendly and accomodating but there are extra charges lurking for everything. Almost $4 to mail two post cards, $15.62 per 24 hours of wi-fi, $30 parking, etc. No air conditioning, tiny bathroom and non-functioning electrical outlets were nuisances. The Empress is a site to behold and everyone should stay at least.

Dear Valued Guest from Jacksonville,
Thank you for taking the time to write such a review on Tripadvisor of your recent stay with us. I am so pleased to hear that you we were able to provide you with the service that The Fairmont Empress is so well known for. It is wonderful to hear that you were able to enjoy our grounds. Our head gardener works very hard to keep our lawn and flowers well maintained. I hope you had the opportunity to enjoy a city tour of Victoria and see all that our city has to offer. Thank you again for taking the time to write a review. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Fairmont Empress when your travels bring you to Victoria again.

We recently spent 2 ngts at The Empress. We got a great deal of $159 per ngt through Fairmonts Presidents Club,. Our room was on the 9th floor,a very nice room, very well furnished,it did however, have a very commanding view of a loading dock & parking area!(for 159$ per ngt..I guess it's to be expected!). The rm had the smallest bathroom I have ever seen and the closet was minute, I've no cue what you'd do if you stayed for a wk or so. The rm was noisy though, you could hear people in the hallways quite clearly. All the staff we met were very proffesional and knowledgeable. Such a grand hotel steeped in history and of course a wonderful location right on the harbour.

The Empress is a beauty to see on the outside. An icon for Victoria if there was ever one. However being built way back when has meant some weirdness inside. It's pretty, don't get me wrong but the hallways can be a maze, the rooms can have odd layouts (like a huge step UP to the bathroom). and the room service shuts down super early if you arrive late.

Everything is clean and staff are friendly but if the layout causes compromises not much you can do. I stay here when I have to, there are other harbour front hotels that are just as nice (The Grand, Delta) and don't have the limitations of old but wonderful architecture.

This hotel sits at the Inner Harbor of Victoria and dominates all other hotels. It's a classic early 20th century historical hotel. with luxurious, elegant surroundings with high end prices. This hotel is truly memorable and has all the quality of the Fairmont name.

Room Tip: Spring for a room overlooking the harbor. We were in 562 and it was delightful.

Our harbor view room is bright and charming with a separate desk alcove overlooking the rose gardens. The hotel grounds are beautiful and filled with flowers. The morning hotel tour for $12 was interesting and entertaining. My only quibble is that everything costs extra - even wi-fi. My husband is here for a meeting and brought a laptop and we use our phones for sightseeing and dining info - paying an extra $15 a day for wi-fi is a little annoying. Despite that this hotel is a part of Victoria's history and is grand!
