“Dont waste your money on the high tea”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

Very over rated high tea, poor products and very expensive. I was enthusiastic about the well publicised high tea, this was a very poor experience and I am unable to recommend it as a plus for this establishment

We requested a harbor view room but were put city side...city side was noisy and the room was small...so we upgraded making the room even more expensive...room was in an alcove area so much of the noise was blocked...a low repeating hum permeated the mornings though...no air conditioning made us thankful for not getting harbor side...bed was comfortable for me but not my spouse...amenities are awesome...definitely go with the down service...the afternoon tea is a nice but very expensive experience and not that impressive as a result

We had a beautiful, quiet suite facing the water. We had three great meals in the hotel. We just love the feeling of old world elegance of the hotel and how we are treated. Anyone thinking of going should NOT miss the chance!

The hotel was designed by same architect that design the capitol building in Victoria around 1930
Room is small compare to modern hotels, but will appointed. Had afternoon tea and pastries in the restaurant very good service. We had cocktails in the bar restaurant, very good service, but very pricey. I found the pool and spa not will maintained, Scums along the tile water line and not chlorinated enough to kill bacteria. Gym and locker room are in good conditions. Parking is a rip off $30.00 per day and free room internet. Overall its a nice hotel to stay, would stay there again if parking is free and free internet.

This hotel has all the elegance one could wish for in a grand hotel. The character in the dining and bar areas is reminiscent of an establishment that has decided to enter the modern era with regard only for the comfort of its guests. The room we had was spacious, clean and well maintained. The attention to detail by the staff has to be remarked upon along with their knowledge of the area and their desire to be as helpful as possible. There is no reason at all for not wanting to spend a leisurely few days in this genteel luxury.

Room Tip: If you can get a room overlooking the harbour then your stay will be complete.

This hotel is huge and is quite a landmark of the waterfront in beautiful Victoria. I reserved through Hotels.com so expected a broom closet size room but, pleasantly, we were upgraded to junior suite. No air conditioning but no problem at time of our visit. Wanted to take high tea but was told senior rate did not apply then, and $60 was way too much for my purse. Enjoyed so much being within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Drive to Butchart Gardens(a must) is so easy with only2 turns before following signs. Staff was very nice and helpful. Parking there is very expensive, and our only glitch was when attendant didn't call for our car to be out front while we packed and checked out. Minor. So only place to stay if you're in Victoria. Treat yourself.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view of harbor.

Lovely hotel. Great historical site and building. Great place to visit both inside and out especially the surrounding grounds. But, considering the money to be paid here per night, not worth it! Older and average rooms, tiny bathroom, older facilities, limited sound proofing, no air conditioning, etc. all for a high end hotel price.
