“Great staff and location”
Reviewed 30 August 2014

Stayed with my kids in late august. Upon entering the room we discovered a major house-keeping gaffe (more indicting of the previous guest than the hotel staff). But the hotel management handled things perfectly and we ended up very satisfied that we stayed there. In the morning, take a run around the harbor and keep going. Great running path. Come back and enjoy coffee and a scone at the restaurant, sit at the harbor and watch the 9:30 pt. Angeles ferry arrive. Splendid.

Room Tip: Try to have a full harbor view if you can

Only stayed one night as my wife and I were in Victoria for the Tour de Victoria Gran Fondo in August. Location for the ride could not have been better being right on the start line. For tourists this means you are right next to the Legislature Building and across the street, a stone's throw, from the Washington ferry to Port Angeles. While we missed out on the Gran Fondo discount rate we lucked out with a harbour view room for which the erroneously quoted lower price was honoured by management without any muss or fuss. Nice! And a most appreciated service for me was being allowed to keep my expensive bike in the room with the hotel offering to provide a drop mat for the bike......a first! Most other hotels put up a big stink if you even suggest you want to keep a bike in the room. And with a large pool and whirlpool on site (and gym), it made for a nice post race refuge to soak some tired muscles after the race. Staff were helpful and efficient, rooms nice and comfortable and clean. On-site underground parking comes at an extra charge at $18 per night and wifi is a little slow, but it's complimentary. It's not the Fairmont Empress, but location is every bit as nice and I assume the price is much less. Who needs Afternoon Tea anyways.

Really enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Hotel Grand Pacific. This hotel is directly across the street form the Blackball Ferry and a 1/2 block from where the clipper drops off as well! So easy, so convenient. The rooms were nice, we had a Harbor view. From our balcony we could watch the water taxis, float plans and ferries come in and out. Everything is in walking distance! Great location. I was not "wowed" by anything in particular but I would stay again. They will even lend you bikes for exploring. I'd suggest skipping the hotel restaurant. It was good but not great and service was slow. There are just so many other choices in Victoria for food! Comfortable beds, clean rooms, great location.

Room Tip: I had a harbor view, if you are not there for a romantic weekend I don't think its necessary. I...

Stayed for one night in August and everything was five stars. From the greeting by the bell hop to check in it was all smooth. The elevator up to the fourth floor was glass so you could see the inner harbour of Victoria. The room had a small balcony and was spotlessly clean with a great layout. The location is exceptional. The pool is great, 25 meters and there is both a steam room and dry sauna. In the morning we took advantage of their free bike program and rode around the waterfront for 1 1/2 hours. Checkout was also a breeze. I would consider this my first choice for a hotel in Victoria.

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Pacific last week. As a wheelchair user my husband has specific needs re the bathroom facilities and space to move around. Our room was excellent in both regards and a request to housekeeping for extra equipment resulted in the item arriving in our room quickly. We had a harbour view and a balcony and enjoyed being able to watch the activities on the water from our room. The staff were very welcoming and professional and we would stay in the hotel again when visiting Victoria. The location enabled us to walk (or wheel) around the town and harbour and we also walked from the bus terminal to the hotel on our arrival. All in all a wonderful end to our Canadian holiday.

Room Tip: Request a room with a harbour view.

I booked online 1 month before our trip to Victoria, BC. We are a family of 7, 2 seniors, 3 adults and 2 children, booked 2 rooms, staying overnight on a weekend.I communicated via email regarding the reservations, promotions on seniors, a requests for the rooms to be adjacent to each other, informed them that we have 2 celebrants during our stay and the reservation desk answered all my queries, tried their best to accomodate my requests and updated me to whatever is happening with our reservations and was able to help us to get the seniors promotions so our payment was discounted.
On the day of our arrival, it just so happened that my brother needs to attend to his job and wasn't able to join us, at the front desk was Tina and we informed her that there will now be 3 adults and 2 children, thus she helped us out to deduct one more adult from our total reservations, she handed out a birthday gift vouchers which turned out to be a complimentary dessert at the hotel's restaurant The Pacific Restaurant (another review for this) and she gave my 2 nephews ages 12 and 8 some free coloring pens, drawings, and list of itineraries we could do.We arrived early at 12PM but the check in time was at 3PM and turned out our rooms were not yet ready ,but we are told that the rooms are adjacent to each other and they will put our rooms in a priority so will be ready in an hour, its fine with us, so our luggages were put in a prechecked in room, gave us a claim stub and we went our way to see some of the tourist attractions near the hotel which turned out were just stone's throw away from thehotel... in front of the hotel right outside the maindoor is the Robert Bateman Center, behind it is the Victoria Harbour, on the right side is the Parliament Building, on its righht is the Royal BC museum and the iMAx,in front of those buildings is the Fairmont Empress hotel, from there you can just visit the Miniature World, the Bug Zoo, the St Andrew's Cathedral,Bastion Square, Bay Center all by foot! Then when we came back to the hotel around 2PM, our rooms were ready!! Ours were the Victoria Rooms, with balcony overlooking all those tourist attractions mentioned above, the rooms were spacious, clean with complimentary tea, brewed coffee, toiletries, free Wi-fi, comfy beds, and when we needed some adaptors for our ipads, iphones they accomodated our requests, needs to pay a deposit though but it will be given back so no worries.
We went to Butchart Gardens and the bus#75 BC transit is there just besides the Parliament Building ,again convenient from the hotel, we used the same bay area for the bus going to the Swartz Bay for the BC Ferries. We arrive in the hotel from the gardens around midnight as something happened with the 10:40 PM BC transit as it made us wait for it for almost 1.5 hours from Butchart Gardens ( another review) with almost 20++ people who visited the gardens and waiting for the bus #75 to go back to downtown Victoria, well that's part of our adventure in Victoria, anyways when we arrived in downtown Victoria,we were awed with the beautyof the Parliament Building all lighted up and was so cold then that it felt like Christmas!!! The Empress was also very pretty at night, it was worth it that we got back late.
The next day, we were awaken by some loud speaker from outside the balcony, it was the Tour de Victoria and the starting point was in front of the hotel, the kids got very excited as we saw so many bikers who participated in the event. We ate our brunch in the Pacific Lounge, but we were able to catch the breakfast buffet as it was still around 10AM, it was a spread of crispy bacons, sausages, scrambled eggs, potatoes, congee, salads, grilled salmon, ots, cereals, fruits, scones, muffins, french toast, coffee, tea, juice, smoothies. My 2 nephews had the kid's menu which basically the same, had bacon, egg, toast, juice but they enjoyed it as well, and we got our complimentary dessert of gelato and tiramisu and Martin who helped us made our breakfast enjoyable served the gelato of my nephew who was celebrating his birthday with a candle, although we jested him to sing a birthday song, unfortunately he politely declined, tough luck:)
We still decided to roam the rest of Victoria,so we requested for a late check out and Tina again obliged to our request.
We will definitely book again in this hotel and will recommend it to our family and friends.

Room Tip: the rooms overlooking the inner habour are the best!

Have stayed many times at this hotel. It's clean, comfortable and in an amazing location. You can essentially park your car and just walk everywhere. Staff are friendly and helpful. Beds are amazingly comfortable. This hotel delivers consistent, reliable great service.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the inner harbour. It's worth it.
