“THE place to stay at if you visit Victoria”

At first I was a bit surprised by the neighborhood the hotel is located in. But once you arrive at the reception, you forget it all. The lady who welcomed us was charming, smiling, making us feel expected, giving us all kind of information while taking her time. Our room, a honeymoon room, was located on the third floor (no elevator!), offered plenty of space, a four posted bed, a fire place ready to be lit, and a jacuzzi for 2. Breakfast is served in the small garden (no view unfortunately) or inside and is an absolute delight. I ate the best pancakes ever! Service is perfect, looking to please you. At 5 pm, complimentary appetizers are available which is a bonus after a day of visits or hiking. A parking lot is available.

We awoke at 5:00 a.m. to get to the ferry by 7:00, and felt cranky and out of sorts. As soon as we arrived at our hotel in Victoria, everything looked bright and beautiful. Our room was
cozy and comfortable with lots of amenities and treats on our welcome. As a gluten free eater, the breakfast was complete with the most delicious chocolate chip cake and omelette worthy of a great restaurant.
The staff ( and all the folks in Victoria ) were helpful and pleasant. Even if Butchart Gardens weren't quite as good as Longwood Gardens, the hotel was worth another visit to Victoria.

We stayed on the ground floor room next to reception (first floor if you are from North America) It was a beautifully decorated room, with lovely individual touches and decoration you just don't get in th bigger hotel chains. Despite being on the ground floor the room was very quiet and we had two very comfortable nights sleep. A lot has been said about the breakfasts there and I can't really add anything more, other than it is all true!. The cook was friendly and the food was brilliant. Lots of choice. Breakfast outside was wonderful and you are even offered fleece blankets if its a bit chilly. I would recommend this highly to anyone who wants to make their stay in Victoria special. If I have to make a critiscm it would be that it is not really handicapped/disabled friendly for folks with limited mocility. The bathroom although lovely for me did not have adaptions to have made my husbands stay a little easier. There were handrails - but not quite at right level and position and toilet seat was low. I appreciate that everyones needs are indivudual.
I would most definately reccomend Abigails's to anyone. Thank you for making our stay memorable and thank the cook for his wonderful breakfasts.

My girlfriend and I plan a quick getaway each year. We were both very pleased with Abigail's. The staff are great extremely pleasant and go out of their way to make you welcome. The rooms are super comfortable loved the bathroom and claw foot tub with rain shower. Breakfast and appitizers were excellent,Chef Mark very accomadating with special requests and very pleasant to chat with. We found it no big deal to buy wine during happy hour, reasonably priced and good varities. There will definitely be a return visit for our next girls getaway. C Ziola Aldergrove B.C. Canada

If you don't like up and down three flights of stairs, don't stay here! Also, for cocktail hour with appetizers, you have to buy your wine - not free! I got a half-off deal but still was not worth the price - would have hated to pay full fare,.

Room Tip: Demand first floor room.

Dear ltgov,

Thank you for taking the time to submit your feedback. I am sorry to read that your experience with us did not align with your expectations. We work diligently to ensure that we accurately portray our rooms and service so that we do not disappoint our guests. However, we are also a very unique accommodation experience that is not necessarily for everyone. In your case we seem to have disappointed you and for that we offer our sincerest apologies.

It is true that we are a heritage property with space constraints that do not allow us to have an elevator. We bring this fact to attention on three different sections of our hotel’s website to ensure it is appropriately communicated. This disclosure can be found on our Homepage, our FAQ page and on our Rooms Overview page. However, based on your feedback, perhaps this disclosure is not pervasive enough. We will review this amongst our management team and see if we can further reinforce this disclosure on the various intermediary websites that we work with, as well as in our guest correspondence.

Our Main House has three levels and our Coach House has two levels. We have one lobby-level room called our Country Queen Room. If a guest informs us at the time of their booking that they have mobility restrictions we certainly do our best to ensure their needs can be met, either through a low floor room option or with our lobby-level room. We have many seniors that stay with us regularly and some that have been doing so annually for over twenty years.

With regards to our complimentary appetizer time which commences nightly at 5pm, I am sorry to read that you thought that alcohol would be included in this service. We have never advertised or claimed to giveaway free alcohol and the act of doing so would actually breach our liquor license.

We believe we offer exceptional value to our guests. All of our room rates include: three-course breakfast (on direct bookings), lobby level hors d’oeuvres each evening at 5pm (often using local, organic and ocean-wise product), wireless internet, parking, guest computer/printer access, fresh cookies on your bed upon arrival, two bottles of water in your room upon arrival, local phone calls and access to our DVD/movie collection. Typical city hotel charges for internet and parking alone can often exceed $30/day.

Finally, for the benefit of future travelers that may be misled by your discount statement, I would like to point out that we do not work with coupon sites (like Groupon) nor do we work with what our industry calls “opaque channels” (such as Hotwire). Our best value with the least amount of travel and inclusion restriction is always achieved when booking directly with us.

Best regards and safe travels,

Nick Saklas

By the time we arrived at Abigails, we had stayed in seven other places in Canada which were all very good. Apart from one other which was on an equal, Abigail's was brilliant. It has all been said in other reviews but from the moment you walk in the staff are so helpful and friendly, the room was delightful (It was at the front which was good), the breakfast was very tasty with 3 courses and not the usual choices at all. We loved the library and the fact that we could sit in there and eat scrumptious little hors d'oeuvres made by Matt, the chef was a bonus. What a lovely way to chat to other fellow travellers and share experiences. It was on the edge of town which meant it was a bit quieter but you could walk to the main area in about 10 minutes.
