Owner description: Completed in 1890, Craigdarroch is a stately home built by the pioneering couple Robert and Joan Dunsmuir, who at the time of its construction were the wealthiest people in British Columbia. Called a 'castle' due to its imposing exterior, the luxurious interior has been restored to look as though the visitor is a guest of Mrs. Dunsmuir during the 1890s. It features beautiful woodwork, unique Victorian artifacts, and an impressive collection of original stained glass, all within a pleasant walk from downtown Victoria.

“Interesting...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014

It was unique and castle-like from the outside, more of a normal home in the inside. It was neat to see I guess, but there are many other things to see in Victoria that would be better worth your time and money.

“Interesting but not worth the price”

My husband and I visited the castle, and found it to be interesting, and something worth seeing. But we both felt the admission cost was too high for what it is.

“Craigdarroch Castle”

An amazing house - the woodwork is unbelievable. It's a shame that family rivalry attributed to the Castle property being divided into lots.

“Castle in the city?”

Found the history of this 'castle' very interesting. we were amazed at how well it has been restored considering it's history as a post war ,veterans hospital, and then as Victoria College

“Worth a visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014 via mobile

Getting to the castle is easy by bus; the fare is $2.5 each way per person. I'd suggest you just buy a day pass for $5 as it costs $5 for a round trip anyway. With a day pass, you can take the bus to other places, too. The castle looks magnificent from every side. The woodwork inside is also amazing. The only pity is that there is no garden and the property is rather small. The original estate was huge. However, after the property was sold to a developer, the developer divided the land to build many houses, leaving a small piece of yard for the huge mansion. That was rathe pathetic. You probably need about half an hour to tour the whole building.
