I lived on Shelbourne st near king st and while the 100 year old home i lived in was haunted (chairs moving across the kitchen, appliances going on and off, lights flickering, doors opening on their own etc) I never really had any unusual experiences outside of my own home so i would say perhaps due to the age of the buildings and the inevitability of some mortalities during the early 19th century which is to be expected that the area in and of itself is not haunted.

I consider myself a local (transplated from Vancouver) that has lived on almost every part of Shelbourne over the last 25 years. Shelbourne Street is unquie in several places from the hidden Bowker Creek Greenway to Mt Douglas parkway. It is rich with heritage. (Check the link below to see some of the early homes and some awesome history) My favorite part is to drive from Downtown to the top of Mt Douglas to view the enture city. Make sure to make a stop at the widened part past Felthem nearing Mt Doug. If you look to the centre there is a dedication plaque to soldiers. (In 1921, Shelbourne Street was planned as a “memorial avenue,” and American Mountain Ash and London Plane trees were planted along the street north to Mount Douglas.) It was rededicated a few times and is a hidden gem for you to discover.

As other reviews have said Shelbourne is a standard city roadway with usual mostly low interest things to see on it.

What is somewhat interesting is how this one road has 10 to 12 different names (depending how you score it) as it snakes itself in a big horseshoe around Victoria. Making it a good reference road (if you know all the names) for getting around town.

Starting near Downtown as Esqumalt Rd.*
(* denotes roads with numberous commercial locations)
Then ...
Johnson St.* or Pandora Ave.* (depending on the direction your going)
to Begbie St. ... as one goes West.

Turning north as ... Shelbourne St.*
to CedarHill Rd.
to Mount Douglas Parkway

Turning east as ... Cordova Bay Rd.
to Royal Oak Dr.*

Than turning South as ... Wilkinson Rd.
to Helmcken Rd. ... where it dead ends into Ocean not far from where it started.

What's to say? It's a major street that runs north-south from near the Royal Jubilee Hospital up to Mount Douglas. On the way are mini-malls, professional offices, big Hillside mall and nearby gas stations, medium Shelbourne Plaza, then more gas stations and the University Heights plaza with Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Tim Hortons. Then we get residential, one more mini-mall, and on into the trees of Mount Douglas Park.
