“Summer Trip 2014”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

A good way to learn more about Victoria's sea faring history and the display on the Empress of Ireland is really well done. I was also quite awed by the display of the Tillicum ( an ocean going dug out canoe that traversed most of the planet) and her history. If you're into boats and noodling about on the sea at all this museum is worth a visit.

“For the history buff”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

We spent a pleasant couple of hours looking at the displays. I would suggest taking the historic bird cage elevator to the top floor to see the old court room first. We enjoyed seeing the museum and the special display for the "Empress of Ireland". Would I take most of my visitors to the museum, probably not, but for anyone who appreciates maritime history and specifically as it relates to the west coast of Canada, I would recommend a visit to this museum. If there had been a cafe, we would have taken a break, but I believe we could have re-entered the museum the same day if we had wished. We had a discount coupon from the Victoria tourism site so it brought down the admission price from $12 to $9 each.

“A must see!”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

We were just walking along the streets and decided to take a short cut and when we looked over there was a museum. Since we had nothing better to do we went into the museum and it was wonderful! It was a little small but what was inside made up for it. Also at the end of your visit make sure to visit the gift shop to find a souvenir.. We got a cup!

“A great place to spend a few hours with kids.”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

I purchased a family membership a few months back and am glad I did. My kids (6 and 8) enjoy the interactive displays and many models. There seems to be a bit more freedom here than at other museums which suits the children's tactile nature.

“Empress of Ireland exhibition was interesting”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

Perhaps a bit expensive for a small museum, this one is still enjoyable and worth a visit even if you're not a nautical full or boat fancier. The Empress of Ireland exhibition is well-organized and full of fascinating detail. The model ships are also interesting, We thought the gift-shop prices were extraordinarily high, but we enjoyed our visit. Great stop on a rainy day.
