“Location Location Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2014

this hotel has been around for many years, but it constantly maintains high standards that all can accept. prices are what you would expect in a downtown hotel in a major tourist destination. However considering the other downtown alternatives and the location of this property, its a good deal. Staff are very helpful and relaxed, parking and internet are included in the room. Walking distance from the museum, parliament buildings and within a few block in any direction there are great restaurants. Rooms are very comfortable and apart from a few that look over the parking lot, most have a decent view of downtown. the restaurant and bar on the top floor is a great place to relax and have a beer or take in the sunrise with breakfast.....all around a nice hotel

Room Tip: On weekends there is some street noise from revellers, ask for a room away from the busy streets...

Granted, we booked last minute. This hotel was recommended by a clerk at a gas station just outside of Sydney so we thought that we'd check it out. We were in town for a buddy's brother's two WHL playoff games. I thought it was a bit pricey (not knowing until after that we needed to state WHL discount to get a better rate). The room was pretty much the smallest room I've stayed in (king bed). A person needs to negotiate the door as the table is right when you enter and the bathroom does not allow more than one person at a time. It's Jenga trying to move around the bathroom. Using the toilet you are staring at the other person on the bed. Not pleasant. The toilet is jammed right next to the tub/shower and it's difficult to close the door (especially with bath towel on floor).

Also, we tried the pool and hot tub one afternoon and were also quite let down....the pool was freezing and the hot tub was more like a tepid bath. Not impressed at all. Well to top it off we were facing the parking lot on floor #3 and had to listen to (I'm assuming the fan system in underground parking lot?) all night long. It literally sounded like a jet plane revving up to take off then would subside. Guessing this happened every 20 minutes. Yes, I dug out my ear plugs in order to sleep.

The staff were very friendly, the location excellent, and enjoyed our time in the martini bar, but truthfully we will never book here again.

We checked into the Chateau Victoria on a Friday night. The lobby of this hotel has been renovated is absolutely spectacular. The desk got our room type wrong (they had us in a standard room with a king bed instead of a king suite). They corrected the problem and put us in a queen suite that overlooked the parking lot. We weren't all that pleased with the substitution and there was no restitution offered for the downgrade. The rooms are dated (scuff marks on the walls etc.) and certainly don't reflect the renovation that was done in the lobby. After settling into our room we went upstairs to Vista 18 for drinks and appies. The views from the restaurant were amazing, the martinis were good and the appies were good too (although portion size is a little small). The part that I didn't like was that when we went to pay (by debit) an automatic 17% gratuity appears on the change and unless you change it manually that is what you tip. I normally tip 20% but because of the sense of entitlement I changed it to 15%. A tip is a tip for good service - it's not a given! We also had breakfast in the same restaurant the next morning and it was great. So, I believe this hotel needs to change some things and it was an average experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a water view.

I booked a room over the phone for a romantic weekend getaway. I booked a King Suite and requested a high floor. On arrival, I found that I was on the lowest floor for that room and when I inquired about my request I was told the hotel was fully booked. When I got to the room, it was not how the room was pictured on the hotel website. It was still a nice room, but the only reason I had booked at this hotel was for the view and my view was of a parking lot. To make up for not meeting my request, the hotel offered a late checkout, except the next morning, the phone rang at normal checkout time to ask if I needed more time. I informed them that I had a late checkout time already.

Otherwise, staff were friendly and offered umbrellas and shuttle rides to stay out of the rain. We ate at Vista 18 and had a very lovely time.

I have been staying at the Chateau Victoria for years, typically when I am in Victoria on business. The customer service is bar none excellent, consistently! The front counter staff always have smiles and cheerful greetings, no matter what time of day or night, and no matter how busy they are. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Clive's Cocktail Lounge is in the Hotel and is fabulous! A "must visit" every time I am there - a true cocktail lounge - and they know their cocktails!
The hotel is right downtown, central to everything, and being just off the main street (Douglas) it is very quiet.

Lovely location, better than helpful staff - they definitely go the extra mile. We were treated really well, even though we just walked in looking for a room.
Clean and comfortable rooms, and even better suites! Great amenities: especially the delicious food in the restaurant with the new chef and the mixologists working at Clives- oh la la! As said in other reviews, walking location to many sights nearby. Looking forward to using it for our wedding guests as a place to stay!

Room Tip: Suites are great for families as they have two bathrooms!
