“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2014

Good hotel. The suites are perfect for families with kids. Room service was fast, tasty, and reasonably priced. Newly updated decor is a plus. Would recommend this to anyone. The free parking is nice too!

We visited Victoria years ago and came back for a visit with friends. This hotel is beautiful and within walking distance of all of the central city. The lobby bar is top notch. Rooms were very clean and inviting and we ate in the hotel restaurant which has one of the top chefs in the country. The elevated half-round booths overlooking the water were magical and the food was even better. Don't miss the crème brulee trio.

We stayed at Chateau Victoria for a week in early March and were very happy with our accommodation. We had booked a suite with a kitchen months previously and were happy to find we were overlooking the Empress Hotel and could see the water and mountains in the distance. We received a very warm welcome and our room was ready when we arrived about 2.00pm. The staff were very helpful and friendly and provided us with maps and advice. Chateau Victoria is centrally located and most major attractions and the Visitor Information Centre are within easy walking distance. We used public transport to reach Butchart Gardens and found the bus about 2 minutes walk away. Supermarkets are a little too far to walk with bags of shopping but the Hotel shuttle will drop off and pick up on request making this an easy exercise. The hotel doesn't have an onsite laundry but the shuttle will take guests to the laundromat. As we prefer to self-cater we didn't visit the restaurant . Although so central , there was little traffic noise. We had been told by other passengers on the ferry from Vancouver that we would be happy at Chateau Victoria and they were right.

We chose this hotel though a package connected to the ferries for its proximity to all things walkable in the downtown core. . We had a great first impression as you drive into the hotel and it continued to meet our expectations throughout our stay. We were told however that we had a pullout couch, which we did not but by the time we discovered it, it was too late to do anything about it. Our room was clean, spacious and we left satisfied. Note to ladies...bring your own hair drier as the one provided was virtually useless.

this hotel has been around for many years, but it constantly maintains high standards that all can accept. prices are what you would expect in a downtown hotel in a major tourist destination. However considering the other downtown alternatives and the location of this property, its a good deal. Staff are very helpful and relaxed, parking and internet are included in the room. Walking distance from the museum, parliament buildings and within a few block in any direction there are great restaurants. Rooms are very comfortable and apart from a few that look over the parking lot, most have a decent view of downtown. the restaurant and bar on the top floor is a great place to relax and have a beer or take in the sunrise with breakfast.....all around a nice hotel

Room Tip: On weekends there is some street noise from revellers, ask for a room away from the busy streets...

Granted, we booked last minute. This hotel was recommended by a clerk at a gas station just outside of Sydney so we thought that we'd check it out. We were in town for a buddy's brother's two WHL playoff games. I thought it was a bit pricey (not knowing until after that we needed to state WHL discount to get a better rate). The room was pretty much the smallest room I've stayed in (king bed). A person needs to negotiate the door as the table is right when you enter and the bathroom does not allow more than one person at a time. It's Jenga trying to move around the bathroom. Using the toilet you are staring at the other person on the bed. Not pleasant. The toilet is jammed right next to the tub/shower and it's difficult to close the door (especially with bath towel on floor).

Also, we tried the pool and hot tub one afternoon and were also quite let down....the pool was freezing and the hot tub was more like a tepid bath. Not impressed at all. Well to top it off we were facing the parking lot on floor #3 and had to listen to (I'm assuming the fan system in underground parking lot?) all night long. It literally sounded like a jet plane revving up to take off then would subside. Guessing this happened every 20 minutes. Yes, I dug out my ear plugs in order to sleep.

The staff were very friendly, the location excellent, and enjoyed our time in the martini bar, but truthfully we will never book here again.

We checked into the Chateau Victoria on a Friday night. The lobby of this hotel has been renovated is absolutely spectacular. The desk got our room type wrong (they had us in a standard room with a king bed instead of a king suite). They corrected the problem and put us in a queen suite that overlooked the parking lot. We weren't all that pleased with the substitution and there was no restitution offered for the downgrade. The rooms are dated (scuff marks on the walls etc.) and certainly don't reflect the renovation that was done in the lobby. After settling into our room we went upstairs to Vista 18 for drinks and appies. The views from the restaurant were amazing, the martinis were good and the appies were good too (although portion size is a little small). The part that I didn't like was that when we went to pay (by debit) an automatic 17% gratuity appears on the change and unless you change it manually that is what you tip. I normally tip 20% but because of the sense of entitlement I changed it to 15%. A tip is a tip for good service - it's not a given! We also had breakfast in the same restaurant the next morning and it was great. So, I believe this hotel needs to change some things and it was an average experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a water view.
