“Best B&B I've ever stayed at”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

Over the years I have stayed at many B&B's and have often contemplated opening one myself. If I were to chose a role model for the ideal B&B, this would be the place. The location by the water is beautiful and the house itself is gorgeous. They have done a nice job landscaping out front and inside the place is very tastefully decorated. We stayed in the Somerset room which was luxurious and far better than any high priced hotel. We had a little balcony looking out onto the water with a view of snow capped mountains. The bathroom was almost as big as the room itself with a big tub and a separate shower. The two guys, Michael and David, were super nice and very helpful with suggesting a place for dinner and with any other info we might need. And Cora was so charming and personable as she served a deluxe breakfast in the dining room downstairs. We were there only one night but staying there made me wish we could've stayed longer. Truly one of the best places to stay if you come to Victoria.

Room Tip: Somerset room is on the 3rd floor so be prepared to carry your bags up 2 flights of stairs.

This was my first time to Victoria in a long long time and my first B&B, so let that color how much my opinion matters in those areas.

First Impression - the house is perfectly situated at the end of the island, overlooking the coast and the Puget Sound with the Olympic peninsula off in the distance. The nearby walking trail is always bustling with joggers and dog walkers taking in the view of the sea. The manor itself is a 1912 construction and is charmingly refurbished to reflect the old style but with updated amenities. We met the proprietors as they were outside doing the gardening (one of the thousand things they do themselves) and they were eager to say hello and get us settled.

Rooms - we had the Kensington and the Oxford Grand. Both were decorated in the 1912 style and tastefully so. Both rooms were spotless and well appointed and with great views of the ocean. The oxford grand took it a step further with a large jetted tub.

Location - Most of victoria is relatively easy walking. The Dashwood is about a 15-20 minute walk to downtown at moderate pace (and through the winding trails of the park no less.

Service - impeccable. The owners were out in force taking care of everything from cleaning the rooms to serving and cooking breakfast to pulling weeds. They took it all in stride and still took the time to give us directions and recommendations.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Any facing the ocean are amazing. Can't beat the view and the sea air.

WOW!! Ocean views and quiet brought us back to Dashwood. The same BUT different in so many wonderful ways. Michael and David have transformed the manor with too many meticulously wonderful personal touches to mention. Impeccable attention to detail to create a warm, casually elegant experience for guests. From the moment you arrive to pulling up the so soft and cozy sheets and tres comfortable bed. Breakfasts alone are worth the stay, delicious variety of nutrition and great variety, local and fresh. Michael gives meticulous attention to each dish he prepares, from start to finish. David is a fantastic host, never missing a morning greeting, fresh coffee or tea arrives as ordered, almost before you've had a chance to pull in your chair to gaze out the spectacular ocean views from the bright dining room. He makes every guest feel like the most important person in the room, always has suggestions for outings or local restaurants, paying close attention to your interests. The fresh delights before breakfast is served are a great personal touch. With always just the right balance of conversation and privacy, David is a natural, professional when it comes to the complete host. Cora is a great addition to the team with her warm smile and great service for breakfast and making up the guest rooms. Well done Michael and David, you've transformed the manor into the perfect balance of casual elegance, whether your hiking, biking or boating by day or polishing up in the evening for an evening out, Dashwood has it all, outstanding accommodations, breakfast, BEST ocean views and just minutes from downtown.

Room Tip: All the guest rooms are fantastic! Each room has it's own unique ambiance, character views, etc...

David is a great host, and Cora was lovely and served us a fantastic breakfast. The location is wonderful - right on the Strait, and very close to a great walking path along the water. David helped us choreograph a perfect evening with tips on where to walk, where to eat, and what to see.

A really good find.

Room Tip: I think all are probably very good.

My wife and I stayed for three nights in June and had a marvellous time. The B&B is right by the sea and within easy walking distance into town. The rooms were very nice and cosy, the hosts very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Dorset room and had fantastic views of the sea from our balcony. There was a breakfast selection to choose from which we enjoyed very much and lovely sea views from the breakfast room.

david and Michael did a beyond great job hosting us! they were so accommodating and genuinely wanted us to have a fabulous time on our vacation. we could feel the warmth and kindness radiating from the house.

right away david began helping us plan our day and gave us tips and ideas for dinner.

our room was so charming and relaxing. we stayed in the Somerset room and had a little porch that over looked the mountains. it was so calming and serene and even had an awesome spa like bath tub!

breakfast was amazing, especially with the great view of the mountains from the dining room. the food tasted super delicious and the portions were more than you would get at a restaurant!

overall I would highly recommend this B&B and would love to stay again some day! it was our first B&B ever, and I have to say - it's definitely going to be hard to beat!
