“Wonderful view and accommodations”
Reviewed 19 May 2012

We just enjoyed a wonderful four days at the Harbour Towers. Our room offered an excellent view of the Harbour. It was a large room. Very quiet. Food provided at the conference was excellent. however, breakfast service at Vic's was amazingly awful. Our server was totally 'out of it'! Our order was vaguely attended to - poached eggs were ordered 'soft' but arrived in a rubbery state. It was difficult to get a cup of coffee from him even after making several requests. Our friend ordered tea but was brought something ordered by another table which our waiter thought was quite funny!!
Lots of parking is offered on site. Location is excellent to see historical sites and shopping. Outside of the breakfast an excellent stay.

Thank you very much for your feedback; I appreciate you taking the time to share your comments on your most recent stay, even though the breakfast experience was less than acceptable.

We do have a new Director of Food & Beverage and we are working very hard to address some of the breakfast service issues.

I am thrilled you enjoyed the rest of your four days, we do have a special hotel in a great location, I hope you took advantage of some of our wonderful sights and sounds?

Do try us again in the future, as we are planning a full scale renovation, which will be very impressive for sure.

Take care,

Ian Jones

Stayed a couple of nights for a conference, found service in the restaurant and bar very slow and not very effective. Hotel is adequate but did not feel they were keeping it up

Thank you very much for your feedback; I appreciate you taking the time to share your comments on your most recent stay, even though you were slightly disappointed.
Not sure if you read some of my other responses, however we are planning a complete refurbishment in 2012/2013 and this will definitely address many of our building deficiencies, which make our product look out dated.

I hope you will return after we launch our brand new hotel product, we have something special planned, you will be very impressed I’m sure.

Sincerely,

It is what you should expect from an older hotel. The place is kept very clean and the staff is amazing. Vic's is a great place for breakfast and the coffee is strong and hot just the way it should be. Overall a great place to spend some time. and the east and west ballrooms are very nice for large meetings.

Thank you very much for your feedback; I appreciate you taking the time to share your comments on your most recent stay, and was even more thrilled to receive them in German, what a great world we live in, so connected.

I am thrilled you enjoyed your stay with us, next year we are planning a big Oktoberfest celebration in our west parking lot, trying to make it an authentic Bavarian Beer Garden, maybe you could come back to assist?

Nevertheless, thank you for your kind words, and I hope you enjoy your trip to Canada.

This past weekend we went to Harbour Towers in Victoria. We used a SocialLiving special and did not know quite what to expect. The special was a Penthouse room for under $155 per night. This was only $30 a night more than we usually find at this hotel and we often find specials. We felt we were always getting our money's worth at the regular rate and getting a regular room but when we walked into the two level rooms with a full kitchen, two balconies, Jacuzzi and special desk area with a view that was along two walls that took our breath away, we could not believe our luck!
The experience got even better because of Christian at Vic’s Restaurant both mornings for breakfast and then Katie, our housekeeper was wonderful also. Most importantly John helped at the front desk to make our visit the most incredible that we have ever had!
This experience is judged against experiences in Portland, OR; St Louis Mo, and even Richmond, Va. Wow is not strong enough. We will gladly pay a non-special rate for the service we received!

Room Tip: Ask for a room high enough for a Harbor view! I will also ask for a "corner" room in the...

Thank you very much for your feedback; I appreciate you taking the time to share your comments on your most recent stay.

I will be sure to share your kind words about Christian, Katie and John at the Front Desk; we sincerely appreciate your kind words.

We have an “instant thank you program” in our hotel, whereby we offer of Associates a roll of LifeSavers, with a special label, which allows us to write on why they are receiving the candies, in this case, “due to a wonderful guest comment”. The roll of candies also has a sweet catch phrase, “You are a LifeSaver”, so not only do they get to read why they are being offered the “instant thank you”, they then submit the wrapper to Human Resources for a chance to win a large quarterly prize, so your comments will go a long way to put a smile on these 3 Associates faces.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your comments; I do sincerely appreciate hearing from all of our guests, especially about our Associates.

Warm regards,

Ian Jones

The price was right and location perfect . Somewhat disappointed that our first (2) nights in Victoria were with the view of a roof. Enjoyed a good breakfast . My husband assisted an elderly lady manover her luggage up the marble steps to the elevator as there is no wheelchair ramp and bags must be lifted from the front desk area . No staff offered or mentioned it on check in . The room was clean but average at best.
Got what I paid for .

Room Tip: Call and confirm specifics such as view before arrival. OK for a budget stay - not a vacation destin...

Thank you very much for your feedback; I appreciate you taking the time to share your comments on your most recent stay.

I am sorry to read you did not enjoy your view, next time please ask for a “superior” room category, all these rooms face the famed Inner Harbour and the views are worth the price.

As for the steps, yes it is a difficult building to work with, thankfully we are currently planning a full scale renovation of the hotel and we will address the lobby stairs. There is however, a small elevator to the right of the Front Desk for wheel chairs, luggage trolleys and any other guests who need assistance up to that next level, after the renovations; we are hoping to bring this into the main lobby.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your comments; I do sincerely appreciate hearing from all of our guests.

Warm regards,

Ian Jones

My mom and I traveled from Seattle to Victoria through a living social deal. I have to be honest and say I was slightly skeptical of the old photos on their website. We were greeted by a friendly, knowledgable gentleman named, JT and given the keys to our lovely, 3-level penthouse suite with an incredible view of the harbour and downtown Victoria. The room was well appointed, immaculate, had a FULL kitchen including; a stove, micorwave and a toaster. the deck would have been lovely on a summers day. Sitting and watching the sea planes, adorable water taxis and beautiful ships alike, would have almost been enough in itself. But then, we met Boyd. Upon our arrival we were quite tired and couldn't really be bothered with exploring what to have for lunch on first day. We took a chance, walked into Vic's (the steakhouse located in the hotel) and were pleasantly surprised with the quality and freshness of the food. It was not at a what you would expect from hotel food from portion size, creativity, cleanliness and presentation...Vi's has it figured out. Boyd Firth, was quite possible my favorite server ever. That's coming from someone who eats out a lot AND spent many years working in service. He was honest, patient, helpful, attentive, fast and extremely funny. Someone should give this guy a raise - especially during the breakfast hour as he is obviously a master.

Couple more keys points:
The fitness center is HUGE and awesome, it's practically the size of my YMCA back home

GO DO TEA AT THE EMPRESS - it was worth EVERY PENNY

Lovely, easy location just steps away from bus lines, easy walk to main attractions and the view, cannot be beat

Amanda was nice and made some great recommendations.

Living Social has done it again.

The pull out sofa mattress was terrible but that didn't seem to matter when everything else was so good.

We are having a full staff meeting in May and I will be sure to share your comments regarding Boyd, I know they all try very hard to make an impression on our guests; after all, it’s our people which are our “brand” and I am sure Boyd will be happy to hear he made an impact.

Have a great summer,

Stayed here as an alternative to paying the overpriced rates at the Fairmont during a conference. The price we paid with a Priceline deal was fantastic. Excellent location in that its a short walk to the harbour, Fairmont, government buildings etc. A little farther from "the strip" but Victoria is pretty small anyways and so its certainly not far. Hospitality was good, rooms clean and fairly well maintained. Nice view of the harbour. Restaurant was also good, reasonably priced and becomes even better if your stay is a little longer and you use their eco-vouchers for declining turn down service. Pool area a little tired and could have used some refurbishing, notably the hot tub jets were broken when I was there. All in all, great value as an alternative to some of the other more expensive hotels posted rates. I found hotel staff very conservative with estimates of time needed to get to the airport or around the island so I would say give yourself less time but take that advice at your own peril.

Thank you very much for your feedback; I appreciate your honesty regarding our hotel, our restaurant, associates, location and our amenities.

Further to the point about the Hot Tub Jets, I immediately called our Chief Engineer when I read this, and he personally went and checked the jets and all are in order, maybe it was a short term issue, however our “planned, preventative maintenance program” within the hotel is quite good and typically the Maintenance team stay on top of all issues, big or small.

Speaking of big issues, for your information, we are completing a full scale renovation of the hotel in late 2012 or early 2013, so please keep us in mind for a follow up trip to Victoria; we will have a spectacular product to showcase.

Until then, have a great summer.
