“Great location for visiting Victoria!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2013

We stayed here as a family--one night in the separate cottage, and another night in rooms in the main inn. We were very comfortable, the staff was most friendly and accommodating, and the walk too and from the center of Victoria was short and easy. The inn is just a few short blocks behind the Government Building, so one can go back and forth as needed. In a nice quiet neighborhood of older, lovely homes. A beautiful park is just a block away, with walking trails, ponds, fountains, etc.--an oasis.

Room Tip: To floor a bit inconvenient if you have a heavy suitcase, but staff will help if needed.

Last minute we booked a room here knowing it wasn't right near the wharf but more in a residential area. The gentleman that booked the room on the phone almost seemed apologetic that they only had a studio available that was not inside the hotel. Sure wished I had known about this studio at the beginning of my vacation because it would have been my stay the entire time! It was like an apartment I would rent! Gorgeous, clean, home feeling, roomy, even had a kitchen!!!! Definitely recommend you ask about their studio beside the hotel! What a great price too!!!!

This is the second time we have stayed here and the inn is in need of a refresh. Formica counter tops. No airconditioning. No elevator. Old style big televisions. Rayon bed spreads. With that said it is in a great location and is clean and neat.

We only stayed one night at this quaint hotel, but we enjoyed the experience very much. It is in a perfect location - just a few minutes walk to reach the harbour, Legislature, and other points of interest. The bed was comfortable, and everything seemed a bit worn but very clean. Because the buildings are quite old, the walls seemed a bit thin and there was some noise from others using the stairs, but it wasn't much of an inconvenience. I would stay here again.

Stayed in the Inn in Mid-June. We arrived in Victoria by ferry (on foot) and walked from the harbor. It was just about 6 blocks, 5 minute walk a bit uphill. We had a heritage room with bay window overlooking the street. There was some minor traffic noise with the windows open during AM and PM work commutes only. In the afternoons and evenings we could see and hear the horse drawn carriages clopping along. The neighborhood is full of lovely victorian homes and delightful for walking. There is a grocery and shops just 3 blocks away (west). The park a few blocks east and very easy walk to downtown. The room was small, the bathroom large. Only complaint is the 2 chairs were hard and straightback, not good for lounging. There was a portable fan in the room but no safe. Ice down the hall. A nice terrace with comfortable chairs down the hall. Coffee in lobby in AM. Everything was very clean. We loved it and will definitely return.

This property is a great value for those more interested in seeing Victoria than lounging in a swanky hotel or taking communal breakfast in a tony B&B. Our party took advantage of the suites next door to the main hotel in a former four unit apartment building. With abundant room to stretch out lounging around the rooms is actually an option in this quiet location. The bustle of downtown, however, is only a few blocks away.

the Inn features a restaurant and pub that, while not up to the standards set by some of Victoria's upscale eateries, is just the ticket for a weary traveler looking for well prepared, reasonably priced fare after a day on the road.

The staff is first rate and the ambiance is charming. Well worth the stay.

Besides having the charm of an old small hotel (which it is) and being a short walk to the very convenient bus system and located conveniently to downtown attractions and the marina, the James Bay Inn has the most helpful and intelligent staff. I got all the information I needed, help with my suitcase, and I noticed many other guests getting their needs met also at the front desk. I stayed in two different rooms--one rather small but perfectly big enough for one person and the other very large. Everything is clean and well-kept. The shower seemed to work fine for me - I was on the third floor. The prices of the rooms were quite reasonable. The restaurant and bar downstairs are pleasant enough and here again the service was really top-notch.
