“Good Bang For The Buck”
Reviewed 26 March 2014

If you are looking for cookie-cutter, Motel-8-style accommodation, look somewhere else. If you like good prices, excellent location and a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere, the James Bay Inn is a good choice for your stay.

James Bay itself is a delightful, historic and very well maintained residential neighbourhood. The hotel is situated in the middle of it, with only a five or ten minute walk to the harbour, the legislature and the museum/Imax theatre. The reviewer who called it "old, smelly and really awful" in my opinion was just plain unfair. Old it may be, but it is a clean and charming establishment with a pleasant pub, a very good restaurant, courteous staff and comfortable -- albeit rather old-fashioned -- rooms.

We've stayed there before. We will stay again.

I really enjoyed my stay here. My husband and I stayed for 3weeks while we tried to find somewhere to live in victoria. The staff were beyond helpful and friendly and we were upgraded to a larger room which was lovely. It was clean and the free parking and wifi were great.
The pub was excellent. I would recommend staying here.

This hotel is old, smelly, and really awful. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else! There are no individual temperature controls in the rooms, no hair dryers, coffee makers or any of the amenities one is accustomed to. Location, free Wi-Fi and free parking are the only things this place has going for it. No elevators, and lots of stairs even to get to the lobby. Very, very disappointed!!!

We stayed 1 night in Victoria, the location is 5 minutes walking distance from the center of Victoria.
The Pub and Restaurant was excellent!
The building was very old though.
We booked for a std double room but they upgraded it for a king size bedroom for free :)

This is a neat spot. I was in 328 which was a single queen room. It was a little dark but bed was comfy and the room was nice. Hotel service was nice and there is a pub And resto! You get a 15% off coupon for the resto when you check in. There is a balcony out front of the second floor, good for jamming some tunes on the guit-fiddle! Close walk to downtown and did I mention good price! $68 after tax. Will stay here again!

We stayed here because it was inexpensive, and we wanted a quick trip away. It has character, being an old English style building, but it is definitely an Inn. The walls are paper thin, huge gaps under the thin doors. We could here the neighbours snoring........ If you need a cheap stay in Victoria, it'll work, but if you want a relaxing stay , go for a hotel.
