“One of the nicest place you can dream of”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2014

Unfortunately we could only stay two nights in this lovely place. This was a delight.
First, the location in the nicest area of this wonderful city.
Then the warmest welcome ever.
And of course a delightful breakfast.
Next time, we'll try the largest room upstairs.

I don't have the words to describe how wonderful the Fairholme is, from the facilities and amenities to the breakfasts and the fabulous hosts.

The photos I've uploaded don't quite capture how absolutely gorgeous it is, inside and out. We booked the Penthouse Suite for just over a week and felt we were getting a fantastic deal. Waking up every morning after a great night's sleep and watching the sun rise over the ocean and mountains while seated in our living room was a special treat that we won't ever forget. We also couldn't get over how quiet it was--bordered by the Government House grounds and the Fairholme's own garden, we felt we were quite alone in our lovely suite. Peace ruled the day during our stay.

Sylvia and Ross are simply spectacular. They are warm, welcoming, natural hosts who are happy and eager to make sure your stay is nothing short of perfect; they are also ready with restaurant, shopping, and activity recommendations--do listen to them! The fresh flowers throughout our room and the common areas were a thoughtful and bright touch.

The breakfasts are every bit as delicious as the reviews make out, with immaculate presentation and preparation. Sylvia's cookbooks are worth the few extra dollars, as well. I made her Sweet Marscapone and Strawberry Turnovers within a couple of days of coming home, and everyone declared them both impressive and delicious.

I simply cannot say enough good things about Fairholme. We were honestly quite heartbroken to leave and hope we can return soon. In the meantime, we'll make do with homemade scones, muffins, souffles, and the like from fabulous Sylvia's cookbooks.

I would like to note that Fairholme is within walking distance of the Inner Harbor, as long as you are reasonably fit. It is uphill coming back but only takes about 20-25 minutes. The walk will help you to keep your figure after those breakfasts!

Room Tip: The Penthouse Suite has a full, stocked kitchen and is in the most quiet part of the property. It ha...

Coming from the east coast covered with snow and ice, it was a welcome change. It seemed as if spring had come early. Sylvia was a delightful hostess and was kind enough to give me a grand tour of Fairholme Manor. This really is a beautifully restored heritage property. Seeing I was by myself I stayed in their smallest room, the French Country Garden. The bed was comfortable as was the seating area but the bathroom was to die for. The deep soaker tub was fantastic after travelling across the country and the water pressure was amazing with their massage showers.

In the morning I was greeted by Sylvia who made the most fabulous organic breakfasts. Everything was delicious. She also helped book my whale watching tour and I felt very comfortable there. It is the perfect location, right next door to Government House, a short walk away from Craigdarroch Castle and only a short drive away to all of Victoria's attractions. Please enjoy the pictures!

Room Tip: If you are travelling by yourself then the French Country Garden room is a perfect size. Her larger...

We are just now returning from 2 nights at the Fairholme Manor - and are already planning a second visit. Sylvia and Ross are the kindest, most gracious B&B innkeepers you can hope to find. They provided superb service, helping us to make the most of our time in Victoria.
The room was one of the finest I've ever stayed in - clean, not kitschy, elegant, roomy, and with a gorgeous spa tub and bath with shower. It was raining most of the time during our visit -- but that provided the perfect excuse to stay in by the fire, have massages, and simply relax. It was an easy 15-20 minute walk through a neighborhood to the Empress, museum, etc. which provided a good source of exercise after the delicious breakfast. When I first read the raving reviews online, I thought they were overblown. Now having stayed here, I'm in full agreement.

Fairholme is one of my favorite inns ever. It is a beautifully renovated Victorian home blessedly free of teddy bears, doilies, and mini-print wallpaper. Simplicity, comfort and charm inform the decor. Rooms tend to be large, except for the French Garden Room which is on the small side, but beautifully done. We usually stay in the Olympic Grand Suite on the second floor (no elevator) which is huge, with an enormous bay window that looks south and east to the Olympic Mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. When the sun shines, the room fills with light. It is furnished with a king bed, a double sofabed in a separate sun room, an oversize sofa and armchair, TV, DVD player, CD player, small fridge, large closet, ample bathroom with a full medicine cabinet for storing toiletries, and the most yummy fleece robes that you will want to live in.

I also need to mention the beautiful grounds - great to look at and, in the summer, just the place for whiling away some time with a good book amongst the roses and apple trees. Fairholme is also adjacent to the Lt. Governor's House, a massive estate with acres of beautifully groomed grounds that are open to the public for strolling. We enjoy it for a post-breakfast stroll. The inn is also within walking distance of Craigdarroch Castle and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.

And speaking of breakfasts - they are wonderful! Everything you could want - granola, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice and pastries to start, then a plated main course which varies from day to day. The inn has two published cookbooks so you can even take the recipes home.

We have been coming to Fairholme for well over 10 years. The innkeepers, Sylvia and Ross Main, are no small part of the draw. Both are warm and hospitable - and intent on pleasing their guests and maintaining the perfection of Fairholme Manor. Thank you Ross & Sylvia!

Room Tip: All the rooms are great. We prefer the 3 in the main house - Olympic, Fairholme and French Garden...

I and my wife spend couple nights in Fairholme Manor and It was the right place that I was looking for it long time. Nice hospitality, great breakfast and amazing room are things that you should experience in this beautiful manor. It is a cozy place that I would definitely recommend you to stay there at least for couple nights.

I have been visiting Victoria from the US for years. For the past 12 years we have stayed at the Fairholme and it has been consistently fabulous. Sylvia is the quintessential innkeeper. She pays attention to everything. Breakfasts are pure gourmet. It takes a special effort to maintain this level of quality over the years. If you want the very best, try this.
