Review of Fairholme Manor
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 27 Oct 2016
We stayed in the penthouse suite and must say it was very comfortable and spacious. The suite is huge with great views, king bed, jetted tub, fireplace and a full kitchen (we're to lazy to use when on holidays). The breakfast that we had for the couple mornings of our stay were well prepared and very tasty. Sylvia and Ross are great hosts that make you feel at home. If driving there yoursellf keep an eye out for the sign as it is a little tricky to find.

I stayed at the Fairholme Manor for three nights with my parents in the Rose Garden suite. The suite featured a main room with a king-sized bed and sitting area, a private deck with table for four which had views of the grounds and (off in the distance) the ocean, a second bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a well-equipped kitchenette with dinette which would seat four and a large bathroom with tub/shower. There was a Presto-log fireplace in the main room and the house provided a suitable log for a fire each evening. The breakfast each morning was gourmet quality and featured many items grown on the premises, including berries and apples. Some of the items were Eggs Benedict (also available as Eggs Neptune with smoked salmon or Eggs Florentine with spinach) and fresh blueberry pancakes with maple syrup and bacon on the side. The location was wonderful, practically adjacent to Government House and its many acres of strollable gardens and wilderness. Off-street parking is available if you are renting a car (recommended). The hosts are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, providing recommendations for dinner and services (we needed a laundry and they knew just the place a short drive away). Our three nights in Victoria were the highlight of our two-week trip and we would definitely stay there again.

Our only caveats: There is no air conditioning (completely unnecessary during our September visit) and the bathroom, while well-appointed, is very short on counter space and the separate hot-and-cold faucets sink, while quaint, may be too old-fashioned for some.

Room tip: Check the full descriptions of the suites available on-line and pick one that matches your party.

I can't say enough about this truly special place. I have been staying in B&B's for the last twenty plus years, and have learned to lower my expectations somewhat. The Fairholme Manor did not meet my expectations, it exceeded them. Sylvia, Ross and Susan are the most unpretentious welcoming hosts one could possibly meet. Even though we were staying in the smallest room, the attention to detail did not go unnoticed. From the luxurious bedding, the cozy robes, and fresh flowers in your room to the incredible homemade scones and full breakfast you are made to feel like a special guest. I can't wait to go back.

Can really only echo all the positive reviews for Fairholme Manor, Ross and Sylvia. This was our first time visiting and we will return.

The accommodations are excellent, spacious and well decorated. The breakfast was fantastic and not to be missed. Ross and Sylvia suggested a couple of wines which were also very good and priced well.

All in all, a first class experience.

Storybook setting and hostess with the mostest. Gorgeous home with 10' ceilings and impeccably maintained and decorated. Between Sylvia's cooking and their hospitality, you will want to stay forever. The Manor is located next to the government house whose public grounds are 2nd only to Butchart Gardens. Easy walk to old town, waterfront, eating, shopping. Awesome experience and we met many couples that have returned over and over and over.

What more can I say. Not a lot to add to the previous reviews. For us, at the end of a 3 week trip to Canada, it gave us somewhere to relax and treat ourselves. On the first day we visited Butchart Gardens - beautiful (allow at least 4 hrs), then returned to Fairholme having purchased cheese from a shop recommended by Sylvia. We then changed into the dressing gowns provided and relaxed for the evening with a bottle of wine and our books. On the second day we drove to the Inner Harbour in Victoria to wander round, having been given some good advice by Ross on where to park. We then returned to Fairholme to rest and finish off the cheese and nibbles for lunch. We then had a wander round the gardens of Government House next door before returning for a shower before going to Cafe Brio for dinner. Fortunately, an early reservation had been recommended by Sylvia as it was Labor Day weekend.
