“A perfect ending”

Our last night on Vancouver island was both beautiful and relaxing that felt like a step back in time with the vintage and elegant decor. Special touches throughout, exceptional service with a healthy delicious breakfast left us wanting more time at the Inn. Would love to visit again.

This was a great honeymoon spot. Not only was the property and rooms beautiful but the staff couldn't have been more helpful. The breakfast was also some of the tastiest things we have ever eaten. We were so glad we went there and would highly recommend it to anyone.

This special place keeps getting better. The staff are wonderful and very helpful. The rooms are as if you've grown up there, so warm and welcoming. Reading the other reviews....this reviewer feels whatever is said will be redundant. In a word....Outstanding.

We absolutely loved our stay at the inviting bed and breakfast inn Marco Polo! Everything was picture-perfect! What a find for an anniversary celebration! The inn was in a beautiful, convenient location. We walked from the downtown area and it didn't take long, walking at a leisurely pace, through a gorgeous and stately neighborhood. We were graciously invited in to an elegant reception area, and tea and cookies were offered. Just the thing to instantly feel "at home!". What a difference from entering a big chain hotel! Diana was a wonderful hostess throughout our stay!
The rooms were comfortable, beautifully decorated, and welcoming! We appreciated the tranquility and ambiance - no TV was a nice touch! The inn was clean, quiet, and accommodating. The washroom was grand! We were offered a tour, and saw that each room was unique, and each would have provided the same comfortable, deluxe stay!
Breakfast was exquisite! A wonderfully presented array of fresh fruit, baking, beverages and main course. The meal was healthy and absolutely delicious!
We would not hesitate to stay again, for longer next visit. After staying at Marco polo, it would actually be difficult to try anyplace else in Victoria!
If you'd like to treat yourself, or someone special, this is where you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: We had a tour of the inn, and each room was beautifully appointed!

Our short visit only made us want more and we will certainly return to enjoy this very special B&B. The Villa Marco Polo was a wonderful find full of beauty, amazing service and friendly staff and to top it all off, a creative, delicious breakfast. We felt welcome, comfortable and loved every minute of our stay. We can't wait to return and stay longer….. thank you.

Room Tip: They were all wonderful.

When booking hotels, it is all too easy to book into one of the big super-chain hotels located in most cities over the world. I too had become victim to that until an internet search for accommodation in Victoria brought up Villa Marco Polo. I was quite apprehensive, having not stayed in a B&B for over ten years and even 48 hours until arrival I was still considering cancelling for the grand Fairmont Empress with its iconic waterfront location.

I am glad I didn't. We took a taxi ride from downtown Victoria at a cost of $10. It takes about 5 minutes. Located off St Charles Street with its grand mansion style houses is Shasta Place, home to Villa Marco Polo.

We arrived slightly earlier than the official check in time, rang the doorbell of the impressive villa and were greeted by a friendly lady who, after explaining that she doesn't normally do check-in, immediately made us feel at home and very welcome. The entrance is grand, the lounge opulent and the gardens beautiful. In fact, two gardeners were working on the gardens that afternoon.

We were shown to our room, Silk Road. Located on the ground floor, this grand "suite" may not be to everyone's taste decor wise, but you cannot fail to like it. The photographs speak for themselves. It is beautiful and like the rest of the villa, spotlessly clean and maintained to a very high standard. The bathroom has a huge bath and separate shower. There are no TVs in the bedrooms, but that's what makes this place special.

One of the owners arrived later as we were enjoying the tranquility of the garden. We were offered drinks, cookies and then given a tour of the rest of the villa. Upstairs are the rest of the suites and we were allowed to see inside the vacant ones. You couldn't fault any of them. The were all individually different. There is also a library with large sofa and TV. Italian red wine is available as is a fridge stocked with soft drinks.

The walk into downtown takes about 25 minutes along tree lined streets with more grand houses. The Villa's staff are very knowledgeable on the local area, things to do, places to eat and will make reservations for restaurants for you. You can also reach the Villa by bus from downtown for $2.50 each way.

Breakfast is served at a set time and is held in either the dining room or the quaint Orangery depending on the number of guests. It is a set meal with any previously mentioned dietary requirements taken into account. The food is mostly home-made and a high standard. Smoothie, French toast, soufflé, fresh fruit and muffin were on the menu for our visit.

In summary, we couldn't fault it and would recommend it to anyone. The location may put some people off - but don't let it. Weather permitting, the walk is beautiful, and failing that, taxi and bus are other alternatives. The location adds to the appeal. It is peaceful and relaxing - something none of the downtown hotels could offer, regardless of star rating. As our taxi driver said - B&Bs used to be a cheap option for accommodation. Now they are, in some cases, as expensive as a 5* hotel - but they were never as grand and lavish as Villa Marco Polo,

Room Tip: Go on the website and choose a room for yourself! They are all great. Silk Road is downstairs, the r...

Villa Marco Polo is amazing. The rooms are spacious and carefully decorated, the atmosphere is relaxing and the garden is beautiful. I felt like a 1920's aristocrat! The furnishings were so interesting and I would see new things everytime I went into a room. The staff were fantastic. As I was travelling alone, they made sure that I had just the right amount of attention so that I didn't feel lonely but that I did have time to myself. Pretty amazing in this era. Anything I asked for was provided immediately and with a happy smile. I can not say enough about the healthy gourmet breakfasts. They were fresh, homemade, organic, local and creative. With my sensitivities, it was like winning the lottery.

Room Tip: All the rooms are different but lovely. Naturally, the higher the price, the larger and better locat...
