“DECENT BUDGET HOTEL”
Reviewed 1 October 2013

We stayed here one night. Your better bet is the Accent Inn over this. The price we paid was only around $90.00 with tax, but it didn't include any breakfast. The room was fine, but it was a bit noisy. Also, poor air conditioning that didn't work properly. We had to sleep with the window open to the parking lot and were up with the sun because we had to leave the drapes open for air. Not a bad place to stay in Victoria.

Good value for money, very clean and comfortable. My only complaint would be that we had no clothes hanging space at all whereas our daughters room opposite did. We were there for just two nights so it didn't matter greatly, but when you are living out of a suitcase for 2 weeks it's nice to at least be able to get out your next days clothes and hang them up. Otherwise - no complaints at all.

Fairly basic hotel, but very good front desk service. They were very accommodating re:holding my luggage after check out, but before leaving Victoria. Located within reasonable walking distance of downtown (right on a bus route).

Good value for the price. The staff is very accomodating. We had an excellent service. The rooms are clean, the beds very comfortable, flat screen tv in the room. The hotel is located 20 minutes walking from downtown and is near all the services. We would return to the same hotel. We very liked our stay.

I travel to Victoria just about every second weekend and I always stay here the staff are friendly always welcome on my return, granted it is an old place you can see they have put a lot of effort in the reservations. I always get a good night sleep the room is clean and tidy. Its not the Ramada but it is great value, (If you want to see a bad run dirty and smelly hotel try the Ramada in Valemount BC now that's a hotel I would never go back there was no heat had to change rooms very dirty and the smell of sewage through out the corridors)

The Arbutus Inn is a great location for the downtown Victoria and walking distance to the Propac Legion. There is a timmes at the end of the street and an ABC across the road.

Just as you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, this also applies to the ARBUTUS INN. The exterior of the hotel isn't a pretty sight but the rooms have been renovated. As my husband and I were attending a wedding in Victoria and weren't planning on spending much time in the room, I was really only concerned about the cleanliness and comfortability of the room. So I was very pleased to see the beds being very comfortable and the room was clean. The bathroom was small and needs upgrading but it too was clean. We had an issue with the TV not working but one phone call to the front desk and someone was promptly sent to resolve the problem. The staff was friendly and accommodating to our needs. The hotel is within walking distance to a large mall. GOOD VALUE. I would definitely return to the Arbutus Inn.

Room Tip: Speaking from our experience: Main floor, rooms in the numbers 200 were good. Rooms with the even...

Epitome of adequate.

Absolutely nothing special about this place. The beds were comfortable, even though they took up almost all of the floor space of our room. Beds are virtually inaccessible from the wall sides.

Not to be too critical, but the outside of the hotel is shabby looking, and not a good first impression. Then, as we entered the hotel we were greeted by a utility cart which sat at the front entrance for each of the three days of our stay.

Our first human contact was with the National Car desk attendant, who looked like he had just come in from working his crops. The Nike baseball cap was an interesting touch.

Things picked up a bit as we rounded the corner into the hallway, which were obviously recently renovated, with nice finishing trim. We breathed a sigh of relief as we caught a glimpse of hope.

Our room was clean, nicely appointed, but very tight. We were two people with two queen beds, and I think that is about max. I wouldn't have wanted more bodies in a room this size.

Desk clerks during the day were presentable and attentive, while not overly personable.

Overall, as I said above, adequate.

If you are on a budget or can't find another room in the city on a busy weekend, this will do. Otherwise, I'd suggest trying for somewhere else.
