You can walk onto the Black Ball Ferry in Port Angeles and never miss your car. Wheel your suitcase or shoulder your backpack to one of the many hotels nearby where you've reserved a room. Pick up a map of Victoria and Walking Tour brochures at the Tourist Info Centre on the Inner Harbour.
-Walk around the Parliament area and historic Inner Harbour.
-Cross the Johnson St. Bridge and stroll the waterfront.
-Head up Dallas Rd. near your hotel to stroll along the Strait of Juan de Fuca. (Restrooms available.) On a clear day, the Olympic Mtns sparkle across the Strait.
-Prospect Park has miles of walking paths that can be combined with the Dallas Rd. path. (Restrooms available.)Emily Carr's home is nearby.
-Walk up Fort St. past antique shops to the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and the lovely Rockland neighborhood. Take in the extensive Government House gardens. (Restroom avail.)
-B.C. Transit fares are inexpensive (check for current fare). Ride a bus to explore University of British Columbia, Oak Bay, and other neighborhoods.

Victoria is my home town and it's a walking friendly city depending on the weather. You can go in pretty much any direction and see local history, beautiful old homes and ocean fronts surround. There is also always a pub, coffee shop near by to sit and relax.

There is long ques for cars if you want to strive. Make sure you reserve a spot for your car on the ferry otherwise be prepared for 2-10 hours wait at ferry terminal.

This was our last stop on an Alaskan inside passage cruise. Rather than book any excursions in Victoria we just purchased r/t bus transportation to the inner harbor area. We had a short walk through the Empress Hotel (impressive) followed by a horse drawn carriage tour of the downtown district as well as the older neighborhoods. We chose one of the smaller carriages pulled by one horse and had a terrific tour guide in the driver. From there we walked down to the lower area and visited the vendors and saw a very funny juggler. It was a great end to a great week.
