We decided to stay at the Oswego hotel due to its high rating and reviews. This was a short weekend trip as a small "babymoon" with our dog. On their website they seem to be very dog friendly and stated that they would provide bed, bowls, maps, organic dog treats and poop bags; unfortunately we only got the bed and bowl for some reason.

We stayed in a studio suite which was nicely decorated and came with a full kitchenette. The bed was a queen murphy bed which was extremely uncomfortable as in each spring could be felt through the mattress. The room had a portable air conditioner which was loud to sleep with at night (the room had no windows so having the air con on all day was our only option). So in general, the quality of sleep from the uncomfortable mattress and loud air conditioner was very poor. Also due to the portable air con which had to have a pipe out the window, the blinds could not be closed to the bottom, leaving a huge gap where the sun shone directly in our eyes because the window was right next to our bed. The room did not feel very clean since carpets were stained and the shower had quite a bit of mould in the grout. Since the carpets did not seem too clean, we requested for slippers but soon found out that it would be $5 for each pair of slippers (never ever had to pay for slippers at a 4 star hotel before so this came as a surprise)... Little was provided in the bathroom such as no shower caps and only one bar of soap to share between the sink and the shower so the soap had to be carried around. They do not have a mini bar. A very small TV is fixed to the wall with all wires showing was strange as well. There is free wifi in our room.

The hotel provided a satisfactory service. Basically no staff greeted us unless they were greeted first. Checking in and checking out staff were friendly but when we brought the dog out in the morning, with three available staffs at front desk, none of them greeted us. Restaurant staff were very friendly but the food was mediocre and overpriced for the quality; I ordered the rib and it was very dry.

Overall, the hotel to us felt over priced for the services and amenities they provided. Their website also overstates their standards but not meeting up to them. Most likely won't stay here again since there are better option available such as Westin and Delta around the area too.

Thank you for posting a review about your recent stay. We are very disappointed for the experience you encountered at the Oswego. My apologies! This is definitely not what the Oswego prides itself on with our guest experience as noted in many other reviews.

It is very difficult for us at the hotel to address any concerns that our guests may have if they are not brought to our attention during your stay and we only learn about them through a review like this. We would have definitely made things right immediately whilst you were staying with us.

It is important for me discuss all points mentioned with my team and managers so that this does not occur again. The Oswego prides itself on our excellent guest experience and service - many of our guests return for that reason. My apologies that this was not up to the standard that you were expecting.

I will be following up in person with you so that we can discuss all points mentioned and I would like to bring you back to the Oswego so that we can re-instill the standards and service that are important.

Thank you

The Oswego was recommended to me by a friend. I was attending a conference and found coming back to the beautiful little hotel was so relaxing. It is beautifully decorated with great amenities. The food and service are great.

I always stay at the Oswego, except its becoming popular now and sometimes I can't get a room...I love it there. Don't like the studio rooms, one bedroom is the best way to go.
Clean rooms, good central location, nice staff, good prices, everything is good.

Stayed here for New Year's Eve 2012 and had a great stay. We rented a one bedroom suite and felt it was just perfect for what we needed. Suite had a kitchen that was fully equipped with everything we needed to prepare our dinner and breakfast - cutlery, dishes, glasses, pots and pans, toaster etc. The bathroom was large and had a separate tub and glass shower. The balcony was nice for getting some fresh air, but it was December so it was cold outside. Only downside with our room was we found the bed to be a bit firm and felt smaller than what it was supposed to be. Parking was secure and underground, and about $10 a night. Hotel is within walking distance to lots of attractions and restaurants too. We requested a suite on a higher floor but were only placed on the third floor. Hotel also had strict policies on noise, so it was nice and quiet for sleeping at night.

Room Tip: Request a room on a higher floor for a better view

This hotel has it all: it's modern yet comfy, very clean, it's within walking distance to many tourist attractions. The service was exceptional, from the front desk to the housekeeping staff. There were plenty of modern amenities in our one-bedroom suite on the ninth floor, but we particularly loved using the French coffee press every morning to make a cup of organic coffee, which we enjoyed on our balcony with great views of Victoria.
One minor flaw tough: It got uncomfortably warm in our room during the day although the outside temperatures were only around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. There was no air conditioning, but opening the windows and the balcony doors brought down the temp a bit. At night, however, we had to keep the windows shut because it got pretty noisy at times.

We appreciate you taking the time to write a positive review about your recent stay with us. We are thrilled that you enjoyed the hotel and the service from the team.

During the summer months in Victoria the temperature can get warmer during the day but it cools down at night time. We have fans in the suites and upon request we can have an additional fans brought to your suite. Many of our guests do enjoy the breeze with the windows open.

We look forward to welcoming you back to stay with us again.

Thank you!

I chose the Oswego Hotel (The 'O') based primarily on price and location.
As the tour bus was depositing other tourists at the many other hotels they had chosen we were concerned a couple times about our choice. Once we arrived the worries were immediately dispelled. The 'O' is modern elegance from moment you view the facade throughout the entire hotel. The room (one bed suite) was very spacious with full kitchen and french press coffee maker. One block from Victoria's waterfront and walking distance to downtown the location was perfect. I wish we had more time to try out the Spa treatments. My expectations were exceeded and it's not often we get to say that!

The Oswego Hotel in Victoria is a great boutique hotel situated in a quiet neighbourhood a short walk from the downtown core. We stayed at the Oswego Hotel over the May long weekend and were very happy to not be situated in the downtown core which was swarming with busloads of tourists. Instead, we were staying only a few minutes’ walk away in a quiet, beautiful old neighbourhood.

The Oswego is also a very modern hotel and we were very pleased with our room. Our suite style room had a balcony looking out to the harbor/legislative buildings along with a large and clean bathroom and a full kitchen (complete with cookware!). Overall, we were very happy with the Oswego and will certainly stay there again next time we are in Victoria.

Thank you for your recent review and we are so pleased you enjoyed the hotel and our location. Like yourselves many of our guests enjoy our location which is only a short walk to the inner harbor but, very close to the ocean and the quieter side of the harbor in the residential area of James Bay.

We look forward to welcoming you back to stay with us again in the not to distant future.

Thank you!
