“I'm not going to even try another Sandman for a long time.”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

The exterior looks like something from a slasher film. You know it's bad when the econolodge across the street looked more appealing. They say they are renovating and I hope they do something about the outside.

Check in was mediocre. Staff not that friendly or helpful when we complained the air conditioner was loud (could barlely even talk over it). They moved us into a room where the AC was broken and replaced with a fan.... After another trip to the desk, they finally moved us into an acceptable room.

The place is a rabbit's hole. A random corridors split off to a part hotel part apartment building. Our room was up some stairs, down a hall, up half a flight of stairs, through a set of fire stairs and then down another hall. This place is confusing and proably a fire hazard too since the fire map in the room is wrong, I know because there is no definately no third floor here. No elevator either for that matter.

The rooms are a whole new kind of small. I've staying in hotels in Asia that were more spacious. It would help if they didn't try to stuff such large furnitute into the room. The bathroom area felt as compact as an airplane. You can't even leave the bathroom door open as it blocks off the sink area completely. The renovation feels cheap and incomplete too, considering they never bothered replacing the crooked bathroom door or fixing the crooked light.

Wifi unusable. Keeps redirecting to in an infinate loop acording to my laptop and phone browsers. Ended up tethering off my phone.

The air conditioning was almost useless. Sweatted the whole night even with it on max. It's a window unit mounted to the wall at knee level. The cool air just blows down and not up into the room. Hallways and lobby virtually not air conditioned either.

The pool area was disgusting. Judging by the rusting pool furniture that was covered in water stains, I don't think they clean here very often either.

The one good thing about this hotel, is the Denny's that's attached to it.

Thank you for your colorful review.
We're sorry that you did not have a pleasant stay with us here in Vernon. As an older property undergoing renovations during our peak season, it is hard to get everything all done at once. Unfortunately we can not change the size of some of our suites, so we try to make them as cozy and convenient as possible. The air conditioning units have been replaced in 90% of our property and are contentiously being replaced.
Thank you very much for the feedback.

We had two suites booked and checked in quite late after having been on the road for 12 hours. The one suites air conditioning didn't work at all (weather was over 32 degrees for the 3 nights/4 days that we were in Vernon) and the other kept it just bearable but certainly not cold. I should have been wary when another guest interrupted my check-in to complain that her air conditioning wasn't working.
The staff at the front desk, when asked if maintenance would be able to look at it each time that I would call down , always seemed unaware of the situation (always catch them after a shift change??) were unable to get a hold of anyone to repair it and unable to move us because of how busy/no available rooms left.
There is an elevator at this hotel but you feel like a rat in a maze trying to figure out how to get to it. It certainly isn't convenient in relation to the lobby location. Once on the elevator (our rooms were on the fourth floor) you crossed your fingers and said a little prayer that you would make it to your destination- it is rickety at best and makes some scary noises.
There is a Denny's attached to the hotel with 24 hr access but I think because of this it makes the free parking a bit of a challenge for hotel guests vs restaurant patrons as its all first come, first served. There is underground parking available, but make sure you don't park in a reserved spot, making only 3 spots available for Joe public out of about 25 down there.
They are apparently doing renovations at this location and the lobby is quite modern, but they could definitely focus more attention on ensuring that each room has a well functioning air conditioner (especially in extremely hot weather which I think is their standard summer here) and service the elevator so it runs smooth. The staff were quite pleasant and would have liked to move us to a better room but due to no other rooms available, we were left with apologies and suffering the heat. Upon checkout, we were given discounts for both rooms and thanked for our patience but we won't be staying here ever again.

I booked a room at the Sandman Inn & Suites Vernon from the online central reservations on August 4th for a one-night stay for August 5th. One of the conditions of the booking was the need to have accessibility for my elderly father. I asked for a first floor room or, failing this, access to an elevator for higher-level floors. This was the only condition of the reservation. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were told that there were no available first floor rooms and that there was no elevator. While the front staff offered us an apology and help with the bags, my father had to climb two separate sets of stairs to access the room. In addition to this affront to his accessibility, the room had air conditioning that did not cool the room, even though it was left on from our arrival till the time we left. Needless to say, we did not have a very comfortable sleep or stay at the hotel. Although we only stayed one night, the competency of the reservation approach and inability to assist us in dealing with our difficulties during our stay did not fill us with a great deal of confidence in Sandman Inn & Suites Vernon, in particular, and Sandman Hotel Group, in general. This is very disconcerting.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a guaranteed room for the needs of the guests attending.

Thank God for air conditioning. The hotel is centrally located in Vernon. It has just undergone a renovation to update. It has been tastefully done in charcoal, stone and wood with each room having a full kitchen flush to the wall. It has a small pool and a Denny's Restaurant attached to it that runs 24hours a day. The staff are very friendly and accommodating? The beds are very comfortable. But oh, the air conditioning! It was 34 degrees Celsius the four days we were there. For the winter months, the hotel is very convenient to the ski hills.

We booked our reservation online and initially they couldnt didnt find it. However, within 15 minutes and after calling their corporate offices we were checked in and were given a free upgrade to a king room.

The hotel has been recently renovated and is really quite beautiful. Even though they are upgrading the hotel, we never saw or heard any construction noise. The room was very quiet and seemed to be sound proofed. The room was very clean (the housekeeping staff were very professional and friendly) and updated nicely. The bed was very comfortable and the room had a nice option to regulate heat or air conditioning. The AC works great as the room was a cool temperature when we first arrived.

The only criticism we would have is that the hotel did not have a hot tub. There is an indoor pool that seemed to be very well maintained.

We would stay here again and recommend this hotel to others.

Stayed here one night as we couldn't get a room in Kelowna. Lobby was bright and clean, updated and modern. The rooms however are still a work in progress. Swag lamp??? Outdated fixtures. The bed was very clean and comfortable, the room itself was quiet.
I would give this hotel another try when their renovations are complete.
The next morning as we were getting ready to go, we noticed that the fire escape plan that is on the back of the door was for the wrong room and the wrong floor! Also the coffee packs that are complimentary were both expired. One by six months and the other by two months. Make sure to check these!
Parking was at a minimum, but was free.
There is a Denny's restaurant sort of attached to the hotel and it was convenient for a quick breakfast before hitting the road in the morning.

Room Tip: Check the fire escape plan and the expiration dates on the coffee packs. We stayed on the first floo...

I made our reservation about two months prior to arrival but when we got there, the reservations had somehow been cancelled. The front desk person was pleasant and said they had switched to a new computer system and maybe they were lost in the switch. They had rooms available so it want a big deal, but it still frustrated me, as it's prime tourist season.

The rooms were clean and well appointed. The hotel is undergoing renovations and you could tell that most of the furnishings were new.

My biggest complaint is that the WiFi was extremely slow. This is unacceptable. My only other minor complaint is the TV reception was poor, and no channel listing or TV guide channel.

For the rate we paid I would consider staying here again. However, I would make my stay conditional on them getting internet access that worked.
