“Amazing hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 January 2014

We stayed from 1 Jan for 2 weeks and absolutely could not fault the resort. It surpassed all of our expectations by miles.

The location is perfect - right at the foot of Blackcomb mountain so truly ski in and out, yet a ten minute walk from the central village. There is a shuttle bus which takes 2/3 minutes into the village and runs like clockwork every 15 minutes.

All of the staff are so friendly and courteous and the happy and friendly service is a welcome change from experience of the Alpine ski resorts.

The health club is fantastic - well equipped for a hotel gym and with fabulous sauna, steam room and hot tub facilities as well as indoor and outdoor heated pools. The pools and hot tubs, especially the outdoor ones, were really busy when the ski lifts closed. There is waiter service for drinks around and in the pools. The best part for us, as a family, was how welcome children are - they were provided with pool toys and allowed in the spa bath and all the hot tubs (with the toys). They had a fantastic time, as did all the other kids we saw. However if you were looking for a grown up health club I guess this would be a huge downside. One point to note is that there are lots of health club members from the local area so the gym gets very busy with them especially in the morning. On a few occasions I couldn't get on a single machine.

We had an issue with shoddy housekeeping, as our room cleaning was extremely poor halfway through the holiday. However, when I alterted the manager to the situation it was fully rectified and we were more than sufficiently compensated for the inconvenience.

The Mallard Lounge is excellent for cocktails après ski and the food is the same excellent standard as the other restaurants in the hotel. It's not cheap (nowhere in the hotel is) but we didn't mind as the setting is perfect and food and drinks are superb quality. There is a fantastic après atmosphere in the Mallard with a live musican every afternoon.

We ate every morning in the Wildflower. A buffet breakfast sounds very steep at $32 each but the quality was truly beyond compare - fresh smoothies, hot chocolate with cream and sprinkles, omelettes made to order, as well as every other breakfast item you could imagine. Children under 5 eat free and the staff were fantastic with my 2. Dinner is extremely good quality and the price is comparable with other fine dining Whistler restaurants.

The concierges are extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgable and gave us a wealth of information about activities and dining options locally. They also arranged lift passes for us and liased with the ski school on our behalf when we had an issue.

There is a ski hire shop and ski valet service in the hotel, where you can also book ski school. We found this to offer excellent service.

The deli, Portobello, on the bottom floor, makes the best fresh sandwiches I have ever tasted!

We will be back next Winter and will definitely try other Fairmont hotels in the meantime.

Cannot recommend highly enough.

I used Fairmont Chateau for the holiday season and my experience was really good. The min. you entered the lobby, you were greeted with hot apple cider, then you are welcomed by very friendly front desk. They gave me not only helpful tips for my stay in the chateau, but also a schedule book which showcased all the fun activities happening in the hotel for the next few days. The room was spacious and tastefully designed. At night time, the hotel had hot chocolate and cookie stand (complimentary) at the back door. The hot chocolate was really tasty and warmed me up during my night time stroll around the property.
It's only a short 5 min walk to the village and the ski lift was right behind the hotel, so it was very convenient. The fitness room had not only pool but also sauna. It was a treat. Also for people/kids who don't want to go skiing, they can pass their time in the rec.room where they can play different kind of indoor games (air hockey, wii, ping pong...etc all for free) with tons of kids. I am not sure if it was because it was the holiday season, but there were also complimentary treats and drinks in the rec. room. Next to the rec. room was a small movie theater (not exactly the best sound effect), but hey, can't complain about the free movie & popcorn.
I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. However, there were a couple draw backs:
1. I asked for an early check-in, but instead of early check-in, I had an extra late check-in (2 hrs behind my original requested time). The hotel was just too busy and they didn't have the room cleaned yet. After I entered the room, I found a pair of previous guest's dirty socks behind a chair.-- but like I said, they were really nice people working at full speed, and I just really don't have the heart to be angry with them.
2. The parking is not exactly cheap, so make sure you account for the parking before you make the reservation.

Room Tip: ask for the room with a good lift view, the front desk people are really nice, if they can, they wil...

Dear Guest,

We are glad you enjoyed your stay at The Fairmont Chateau Whistler. It sounds like you had a fabulous trip to Whistler! The festive season is truly a magcal time of year both in Whistler and at The Chateau. Though it sounds like it didn't dampen your experience too much, I was disappointed to hear that your checkin was delayed by 2 hours. The festive season is exceptionally busy in Whistler, however, it does not excuse the shortfalls in service that you did experience during your stay.

Thank you once again for providing feedback on your stay. We look forward to welcoming you both back in the near future.

Best,

We spent Christmas and New Year here and had a wonderful stay. The whole feeling of the hotel is grand but so family friendly and not at all stuffy. The rooms are sumptuous and while we felt the bed was too soft the staff very quickly provided a board to rectify the matter. Nothing was too much trouble and the customer service was outstanding with excellent information and help available including prior to our stay, which was very helpful and prepared us well. The breakfasts are exceptional as was the atmosphere in the Mallard lounge for apres ski drinks and evening bar food. The only negative was one of the salads was below par with the duck really crunchy giving the impression of serving the leftover bits rather than the duck but the rest was ok! The Grill Room was fantastic with a meal that was probably in the best 10 I have had anywhere (including gravadlax to die for and a chunk of bison which was cooked to perfection and tasted devine. There was an issue with a carrot cake not seeming to be fresh for one of the party so just check they have not run out of anything. The staff dealt with this well though so I doubt a regular problem). The spa and gym are well equipped and with early lift closing this was well used by all. A truly excellent place to stay and thoroughly recommended.

I have not stayed at this hotel for three years and it still has that nice understated feel about it which makes your stay very relaxing. However the tv remote control and the hotels TV software is very old and needs replacing . The same is true for the hotels telephone system and the hand sets. So it remains a very nice hotel to stay at but they need to spend a little bit of money in up grading these items. Staff and food remain very good.

Room Tip: Book a slope side room

Last August I had the great fortune of returning to Fairmont Chateau.
Fairmont Chateau is a beautiful building nestled at the base of Blackcomb Mountain and in the summer its the perfect cycle-in/cycle-out hotel!
Fairmont is beautifully decorated, runs with great efficiency, the chefs provide a great variety seasonal food as well as a lively bar that brings in great musicians to entertain their guests. As a matter of fact Fairmont has always hired very talented musicians to play in their bars which means sometime you will be in the presence of great musicians like Dave Martone (http://davemartone.com)
A few steps away from the hotel are a chain of great bicycle stores that could provide the most picky cyclist with a bicycle to fit them!
Whister itself is a quint city that still rides high on the back of Olympics, there are many great bars and restaurants and a fantastic place for hiking!
Great place for summer or winter holidays….

Room Tip: All the rooms are super, ask for a mountain view!

Stayed here the weekend of Jan 11-12, 2014 and chose this hotel because of the "Fairmont" reputation. Being that this is peak ski season, we paid top dollar for a standard room ($340 / night) and one would think for that price we could get a room where you can't hear every word of conversations going on in the next room. Also, every time someone in the room on either side of us left their room, the closing (or more accurately, the slamming) of the door literally shook the walls in our room. If you are a light sleeper, this is NOT the hotel for you.

Chose Fairmont over the Four Seasons, mainly due to its location. This truly is a ski in/ski out hotel and with the added bonus of ski valet waiting to carry your skis to storage for you. Large lounges to relax in with good service throughout. The wildflower serves a very good breakfast, with a lot of choice. The spa is very good, one lady in our group does not ski and used it extensively!! Luane Lowden, one of the hotel concierge, sorted all our restaurant reservations prior to arrival, along with ski hire, lessons, guide etc. She did a fantastic job!! The shuttle service into whistler village was very regular, and we used this most days. We had a junior suite for three of us, which was adequate. The only thing I found missing was there was nowhere to hang wet clothes, not even a heated towel rail in the bathroom. Couple of hooks on the back of the door would hve been useful. All the staff were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Would we go back??? Absolutely. In fact I've been looking at prices for next year already, we were thinking of trying beaver creek or vail, but these are considerably more expensive than the Fairmont. I can't think they could offer anymore luxury
