We stayed here for Christmas 2013 and booked 4 rooms. It is not within the village but we were lucky that there were free shuttles to the village being offered every 15 minutes. We were pleased with the afternoon tea/coffee and snacks offered. Breakfast was so-so. But was happy that they provided utensils for you to be able to bring breakfast in the room - perfect for my late-riser kids.

The family had a extremely fun time at the Coast.Fantastic staff(very friendly and accommodating, quick and efficient), great rooms, delicious continental breakfast, convenient location. Overall amazing! I will most defiantly stay here in the future. In addition telling everyone I know that stays in Whistler to go to the Coast!

I'd love to give this place a strong recommendation and if it weren't for a few easy to fix details I would.

First the positives: The staff is absolutely fabulous, from the front desk staff to the crew running the ski shop. The location is great. Granted it's a short (free) bus ride or a short walk down the slope (I'd walk down and catch the bus back up) to get into the village but the ski-in/ski-out feature is tough to beat.

Now for the negatives: I can't remember the last time I saw a vinyl floor in a kitchen though that's relatively minor. Some in my party found the rooms small. The one thing we all agreed upon was the shoddy broadband service. None of us had to do a ton of work while on vacation but we all wanted to keep up to date on emails and help w/ a few minor things so as not to return to several hundred emails. Stuff that should have taken about 30 minutes/day and been accomplished while drinking a cup of coffee in the morning. Instead broadband did not work in our rooms. We had to use it in the lobby and even down there we still got dropped from time to time. Just frustrating when something that's relatively cheap to fix isn't taken care of.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor (4,5,6) with a slope side view.

First, yes, you are farther away from the village, but there is a free shuttle to and from the village every 30 minutes. We were more interested in the ski in/ski out experience anyways. Brought our own food to cook all our meals. Kitchen was perfect and kept very clean! Room itself very clean! Sound proofing between rooms seemed very good too. Sleep comfort, perfect! Yes, this is an older property, but kept up nicely and at a great value compared to the other high end resorts. Two hot tubs, so no issues finding room to soak after a great day of skiing. Ski valet guys are super! Only two small downsides; wireless internet was very slow in our room, but courtesy computer down in the lobby worked great. Would of also been nice to have a real protein/meat with breakfast downstairs before a full morning of skiing. Hard boiled eggs seemed to be it. Great carbs and fruit choices. Even there, we just went to the store in the village and bought some breakfast sausage and eggs to fry up. Awesome mountain and experience! Will most certainly return to this resort for our next Whistler/Blackcomb experience.

Room Tip: Give a few bucks to the ski valet guys, and they will not forget you! They work real hard to!

Location and initial impressions
This hotel is a ski in- ski out which is down a nice easy run around 2-3 minute ski from the base of Blackcomb. It is in more of a residential / lodge area rather than somewhere in walking distance to bars / restaurants.
To get to Whistler or Blackcomb there was a bus which ran quite frequently which was FOC, you could also walk down the slope to Blackcomb (5 mins) or download on one of the lifts to whistler village. Easy to get around but nothing on the doorstep to pop out to.
We got a shared transfer up from Vancouver and was impressed when we dropped people to other hotels and a bell boy came out with a trolley and a warm welcome. When we got to the coast there was no such welcome so we dragged out luggage in to the hotel our selves. We were greeted at reception and asked to register and sign a disclosure - I have never had to sign a disclosure at a hotel. It basically informed you that you would be fined for various issues and that the hotel had a quiet after 10pm policy - if you made noise you would be kicked out without notice as it was a family hotel - no problem with this but very strange at a hotel advertised to be of a good standard so I didn't expect to encounter large groups of teenagers paying little, getting drunk and sleeping 20 to a room partying all night. On top of this the disclosure also stated that the hotel was unlicensed - no chance of a nightcap!

Rooms
The rooms are a little tired but well stocked and comfortable.we had a studio which was fine for 2 of us. The kitchen had all you needed but a kettle. The rooms however were noisy - there seemed to be no sound proofing (hence maybe the disclosure!) and we could hear every beep of the lift and every conversation of people going along the corridor - including the delight of children at 6am - maybe an early limit on sound needed to be put on the disclosure too. The bathrooms were fine with baths which is always welcome after a days skiing - if only you could get proper hot water in peak times.

Facilities
There is a ski rental shop on site which is one of the Whistler Blackcomb ones so if you book in advance you can rent from here and save the bus to town. They also store your skis so no need to carry them to your room. There is a wonderful pool and hot tub kept roasting and very good after a tough day on the mountains, gowns in the room and plenty of towels in the pool area make the cold run not a problem. Tea and coffee is available all day in the breakfast room. Breakfast was included in our rate but we didn't bother most days as it wasn't the best selection (cereal, porridge, cold eggs, fruit, yogurt, bakery and waffles) - they would really benefit by having more hot options or mixing it up a little maybe doing something different to waffles each day - pancakes, hot eggs, cheese and meat selection etc There is a small shop and gym.

General information
We had snow - lots of snow - if you are thinking of a late break in the next week or so go, go,go!

While planning for our first Whistler holiday I did lots of research on Tripadvisor and finally settled on the Coast Blackcomb as we came to Ski and the distance from the town didn't bother us. We checked in on New Years Day for 2 weeks, we booked a studio suite for the two of us with the thought we could always upgrade to a 1 bedroom if we were unhappy with the studio but that wasn't needed. The studio was clean and comfortable and large enough for all our gear, luggage and additional shopping!!

We didn't think we'd take up the complimentary breakfast offer but as it turned out we did everyday and even took advantage of being able to use paper plates and bring breakfast back up to our room. It was great having the staff cook the waffles as I had heard this was something new and the waffle station previously could to be chaos.

The best part was the ski in and ski out, straight down the lift through the ski valet, a few steps and you're on the slopes heading down to the wizard chair.

Another reason I chose this hotel was the inclusion of a kitchen in the room as we knew we were in the upper village and would need to trek down for restaurants etc, but again we were surprised at the ease of catching the bus from right outside the hotel and only cooked three times during our 14 night stay (kitchen was well equipped).

We used the hot tub almost every afternoon after skiing and it was great place to meet people from all over the world, the only problem was every white robe and blue towel looks the same and we lost our room card a number of times as someone else walked off in our robes. If the hotel could work on another place to hang/ place robes that would be good. I ended up just taking a large plastic bag to put our gear in.

So all in all we loved the place and are already planning our return with the kids in tow this time.

Room Tip: Ask to be on the top floor as it can get noisy with the ski boots stomping around.

We stayed for 4 nights in a 1 bedroom suite. Our room was very spacious, but I am not sure that is the norm--looking at other rooms (as the doors were propped open for cleaning) the 1 bedrooms looked much smaller. Ours was an end-of- hall-unit with no neighbors on either side. Maybe a different set up. The room was clean with fresh carpet and paint, laminate countertops, a nice gas fireplace. Not luxury, but not gone to seed either! The breakfast was good, and as mentioned, not a lot of hot options but the kids liked the waffles. It was crazy packed on Sunday but not so bad the next couple of days. The same with the hot tubs-- they were too crowded to even get in on Sunday.
The ski in/out was great, and the ski valet was easy to use.
The biggest drawback was the distance from the Blackcomb base/Upper Village, especially with the snow as deep as it was during our stay. The hike down the hill wasn't that bad, but with deep snow, gear was needed, or you wind up soaking wet. The hike up was do-able, but with much complaining from kids and a lot of exertion! Not very convenient for a quick trip for a bite to eat or shop in Upper Village, or the jaunt to the main Village. This was problematic when the buses stopped running due to bad road conditions!!!!! There is no restaurant at the Coast Blackcomb, and they sell basically frozen pizzas and cup of noodles at the front desk...not a good situation if you are not well provisioned from the grocery, or have cabin fever. It was actually a bit comic--there were about 75 people piled up waiting for the bus when the front desk gal came out to tell the restless, hungry, dinner-seeking mob that the buses were not running. She suggested that folks walk across the ski slope to the mid-mountain gondola and then download to the Village...about a 10 minute walk. There was a mass exodus as the crowd made their way to the ski in/out entrance...I did not join for the whole trek, but enjoyed watching the horde transverse the slope and disappear into the snowy haze, making their way to the mid-gondola and eventually, food....
For me, the relative isolation was a deal breaker. I don't ski as much as the rest of the family, and so have a need to stroll the village...Upper and/or Lower. Being stuck in my room is not my ideal. We stayed last year at Le Chamois, and it was perfect for my own needs and enjoyment--step right outside, and several restaurants and shops are immediately accessible. A short walk, and you are in the main village. This wasn't the case at the Coast--the amenities were just too far down the hill (and back up), and without the busses running it was "stranded city". With buses--every 15 minutes--it is a 2 minute run to Upper and about 5 to the main Village.
All in all, it was a nice stay with wonderful staff, but a bit too isolated with few amenities, lacking: A restaurant, food, a bar, shops, and A PLACE TO SIT OUSIDE AND ENJOY THE SCENERY.
