“One BDRM units - updated with air conditioning”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

Haven't reviewed this property for some time but have stayed there a number of times in the past few years. A frequent issue that arises at this property is the lack of air conditioning. Club Intrawest - Whistler has been gradually updating units with A/C and this time we had a unit that was newly equipped.

The A/C units they chose are high-end,quiet Fujitsu systems. They work very well. In fact, most of the time the air quality and temperature was improved simply by keeping the A/C in 'fan' mode allowing the air to sweep up and down during operation. When we did use A/C it was quiet and effective.

I would suggest the Club Management produce a 'cheat sheet' to be left in the units so that members and guests can immediately use the A/C, if needed, without having to fumble through a learning experience.

On another point, our in-suite washing machine gave us some trouble. Staff responded quickly and professionally and fixed things right away. CI Whistler staff are very friendly, accommodating and helpful.

Room Tip: CI whistler is an older facility and they are continually updating it (which is good!). In this cas...

We have stayed at Club Intrawest four times in the last 6 years. The Hotel is located in a very quite cul de sac in the Upper Village of Whistler, about a 5 minute walk to the Blackcomb chair lift. Lots of restaurants close by & only a 10>15 minute walk to the main Whistler Village. One Bedroom units are very spacious & nicely decorated, two big screen TV's in unit, as well has full kitchen & all appliances. Wonderful hiking trails for all abilities start within a 5 minute walk from the Hotel. The facilities within the Hotel are adequate, the Fitness Centre needs to be larger with more equipment provided, adult pool is quite small for the size of the Hotel. Staff are knowledge & helpful whenever required. We always enjoy our stay, it's the location that continues to bring us back to the Club Intrawest in Whistler.

Room Tip: Higher floors are definitely better than the ground level if you like to open the windows, which are...

I visit Whistler often during the ski season and decided to check out Club Intrawest since their facilities seem nice. We attended a 90 minute sales presentation, and were hosted by a very nice gentlemen who asked lots of questions about our vacation preferences and then began to spin some fancy figures suggesting the ownership of Intrawest points was a much better expenditure of funds than simply staying at conventional hotels. Although I am mathematically inclined and could spot many flaws in his reasoning, I politely let him proceed. He then brought in a second slick sales person who offered us "deals" discounting the price of points originally offered. We declined and were told a third sales person would speak with us briefly to take an exit survey. Her actual objective was to give us a high pressure sales pitch to purchase points on a "one time" basis right then and there. We felt this was real cheesy. We exited without making a purchase.

Bottom line is that points can be purchased on the secondary market from owners trying to unload them at a fraction of the price offered by Intrawest. They do have nice properties, and it's an individual choice how much one wants to pay to have access to them. There are choices.

Let me start by saying that my review is tainted because the primary pool, waterside, and barbecue area are all closed for 6 weeks. Interval (timeshare trading company) was not made aware of this by Intrawest. Intrawest also did not notify us that such a major portion of it's recreation facilities were closed. So the loss of all these amenities contributed to my rating going from average to poor.

Pro's: Location, Free game room for the kids, Free movies (good selection), Just added new air conditioners (although I had to call down for a remote to control them and they only gave me one remote for three air conditioner units). Pool furniture very comfortable, two hot tubs. Pool water is warm.

Con's: There are many. The kitchen is outdated! The fridge has wire shelves (cheapest you can find) Kitchen is very small, very little counter space. Dishware selection is poor and bowls, glasses are very small. Couches are very small and the amount of furniture in the unit leaves it cramped and crowded. Carpet throughout unit was stained and appeared dirty. There were no sports areas (like basketball or outside games). Gym was very cramped and equipment was broken. Adult pool (which was open for families since the main pool was closed) was small - about the same size as a residential pool. Onsite store very expensive. One package of bacon was $11.00. No restaurant onsite, no poolside bar.

Customer Service was generally awful. Staff were not friendly most of the time. Occasionally we did have some good interactions but for the most part staff were not overly friendly.

We are owners with Marriott vacation club so we are used to a much higher standard. The resort has potential but they need to sink some money into it. Maybe hold a customer service training course and learn how to listen to customers and how to address their concerns.

Room Tip: Stay at another resort!

Dear pjok03,

Thank you for taking the time to write your review.

I totally understand the reason to feel disappointed upon finding out that our Mountain Beach pool and amenities were not available during your stay. Your firm statement mentioning that Interval International was not made aware of this by us is not taken lightly, as we indeed communicated the closure (due to large renovation) months in advance to them and other exchange partners. That being said, we certainly will follow up with Interval and others to ensure the communication is passed on to the exchange partners' Members in the future to avoid these kind of disappointments. Unfortunately, you did not hear from us previous to your stay as it is Interval the company that you made your reservation through.

Your comments about the appliances and condition of the Vacation Home you stayed at are of concern and I would like to apologize for your less-than-satisfactory experience. We constantly conduct replacement of appliances as they are getting to the end of their optimal working life, and I have no doubt that you stayed in a Vacation Home in which the fridge, regardless of the good working condition, still looked outdated to you. Glasses and dishware in each Vacation Home are relatively new, and we place enough according to the maximum occupancy of each type of Vacation Home; I am very sorry to hear you found them not up to your expectations and that you found the size of our Vacation Homes to be small. We are aware that, despite our continuous preventive maintenance and deep cleaning program, the carpet and upholstery in certain Vacation Homes need to be changed, and we are currently working on those upgrades. In fact by the end of June, we will have a total of 40 Vacation Homes with new carpet.

We recently replaced two large pieces of equipment in the gym, and as of this morning (May 23)every single piece is in working condition. I could not figure out the source of your comment about broken equipment, which still gave us the opportunity to double check everything is working. After checking the maintenance log for the past 10 days, I could not find any sort of malfunction being addressed.

You are absolutely correct when it comes to no sport courts and no food and beverage outlets on site. Located within walking distance from us, there are a handful of restaurants to choose from; our Member Reception Team can always point Members and Guests into the right direction to find accessible activities and sport courts in Whistler. The Upper Village Market onsite offers items at a convenient location, avoiding Members to take a trip to the Market in the village. I agree with you that a few items could be a bit higher priced due to the fact that the Market operators are the ones doing the trip to make the items conveniently accessible to you.

I am very sorry to hear that our Member Reception Team left a negative impression on you. Despite the fact that our Team receives high ratings and constant positive comments for their friendliness and Member-service oriented attitude, your comment is certainly heard loud and clear, using it during our future training sessions to ensure our Team maintains a high level of Member service.

Again, thank you for your review and my apologies for not been able to meet your expectations. I sincerely hope that you give us the opportunity to serve you in the future so you can experience Club Intrawest - Whistler's improved and upgraded facilities, as well as the high level of Member and Guest service we are renowned for.

Sincerely,

Pablo Contreras

Stayed here in January and it was a great stay. Loved the location, loved skiing everyday... was the best holiday! The hotel has a hot tub outside and a small store downstairs which was handy. The option to watch a film in the cinema was cool and just easy to chill out on some nights. Will most defiantly be going back! I miss it already, Canada I will see you soon.

My wife and self were taken in by the smooth talking, professionally trained salesman. They paint a perfect picture of the resort and Whistler, and how easy it is to spend 2 weeks a year skiing there when you like. That was what sold it for us. We only want to go in the snow season.
Come the next year, with my 125 points I could get 3 nights there and that was it for the snow season. Not the 2 weeks like advertised. That was the same story again for the next year we enquired.
This year we have tried to get 5 nights there, but were told a 6 night minimum was required. Well, once again, there were no vacancies for 6 nights in the same room. There was a 5 night vacancy. Perfect. But not allowed as we emailed customer service. This booking was attempted 10 months in advance, as we are travelling from Australia. We know if we leave it to 6 months in advance we will have no chance of getting in there. So basically, I have paid alot of money, plus the annual fee, for something I can't use.
There are several sites online with many similar complaints as mine. I just wished I checked them out before signing the dotted line. I hope others get the chance to do this before the high pressured salesman get another victim.

This is a great hotel for families. Nice decor - comfortable but not fussy (desirable if travelling with kids or skiers!). Lovely pool area (separate area for adults only - which is nice if you are not there with kids). Large lounge area, games room, library and movie room. Staff are very friendly. It is a bit of a walk into the village - which is a bit of a drag in the winter (with skiis etc) but a lovely stroll in the summer. Very close to Lost Lake park (great walking trails in the summer and cross country trails in the winter).
