“Great place for the value”
Reviewed 10 December 2007

I had to write a review of Glacier's Reach after I read some of the other posts. I have stayed at this property 6 or 7 times with 1-3 other people and have always had a positive experience. We always rent directly from the owners at alluradirect.com. Some people may have rented though a different company or the onsite company and had a bad experience. The units are individually owned condos and therefore are all kept a little differently and managed by differet companies. Ours have always been clean with plenty of towels, kleenex, cooking utensils, movies, cd's , games etc.. The hot tub and heated pool is a bonus as well. It is in Village North but it's literally a 10 minute walk or 5 minute shuttle ride to the lifts. The value is unmatched in whistler. Galcier's Reach is similarly priced to creekside which is much farther away from the action. Bear and Deer lodge are great places as well but you are going to pay for it. I would prefer spending the money on a great dinner in one of Whistler's 5 star restaurants.

4 of us stayed in one of their 2 bdrm split level townhouse the weekend of Nov 16-18, 2007. We stayed in Unit # 48 and unfortunately, had the strong smell of gas, which a neighbour also complained of. Booked through ResortQuest, so you had to check-in/out at another site but process was easy enough.

Building is located in Village North, one end of the Village stroll, close to Market Square which was perfect for our needs i.e. groceries, movie rental and liquor store. Designated secure parking stall at $12 per day.

Master bedroom w/ queen bed and ensuite was fine, two twin beds in the 2nd room felt really tight. Technically, could have accommodated 6 people if you used the pull out sofa which we never tried. Has all the basic kitchen needs such as pots and pans and utensils. Bring/buy salt & pepper.

We definitely enjoyed the 4 person private hottub, which in our case was located off the balcony on the 2nd level. The common area hot tub and heated swimming pool was fun too as you were able to meet other guests. The walls showed some signs of wear and tear likely from ski equipment scratches. Basic cable with only a couple of movie channels. Overall, comfortable accommodations for a very competitive price esp. with all the amenties this building has to offer.

Stayed in a 2bdrm suite booked directly with the owner through alluradirect so there was no check-in/out process to go through. Specific and detailed instructions were emailed a few days prior to arrival which were really helpful. When we arrived there were a few things we still wanted to clarify so we phoned the owner and got through to him immediately. Very friendly.

The suite had obvious signs of wear and tear but overall it was very immaculate and very well furnished and put together. The kitchen was well stocked with many small appliances, cookware, gadgets, etc... also a wall-mounted cd player we never had the opportunity to try out, large HDTV LCD flatscreen tvs in almost all the rooms (3 in total), cozy fireplace, two bathrooms (jetted tub in master room), LOTS of hangers in the closets, stacked washer/dryer with detergent, iron/board, highspeed internet access, boardgames, hairdryers in both bathrooms (my fav!), individually wrapped soaps for each bathroom sink and tub just like in hotels, and most importantly... a private hottub on the balcony! There really wasn't anything we needed that we didn't find already supplied in the condo.

There were only two of us so we pretty much stayed out of the 2nd bedroom and can't comment on the facilities in there. The master room had a queen sized bed which was VERY comfortable. It also had a very large adjoining balcony that we didn't take advantage of as it was uncovered and it poured like rained the entire time were we up at Whistler. We did see that there was a bbq grill and patio furniture to lounge on.

We decided to take a walk around the village even though it was absolutely pouring outside so we thought to drive around and look for a place to buy an umbrella. Just as we were heading out we noticed two large umbrellas ready for our use by the door... very thoughtful!! So we decided to walk the entire way to village instead. It was cold and wet but it probably only took us 10 minutes to get there. We could've taken the shuttle in but felt the walk was good for us. And besides, we had a dryer to throw our clothes into!

The living room was probably my favourite. Even though there was a fireplace there to keep the room toasty, the coffee table doubled as a storage chest and hid 2 extra pillows, a soft blanket and a duvet to snuggle up with while watching DVDs on the large tv screen. To change things up a bit we'd only had to step through into the adjoining covered balcony where the private hottub sat. On our last night here it snowed and it was almost decadent sitting in the hot water watching the cold stuff fall down. Full towel sets (bath, hand, face) for 4 were supplied, as well as 4 extra bath towels for the hottub usage so it was nice to know we didn't have to use the same towels from showering.

There is really only one major complaint we had with the place and it was the lack of room in the 'foyer'. There were just enough room for the front door to open and close as long as there was no one standing in the way. Getting in meant having the both of us hop onto the first few steps of the stairs which leads up into the condo so that we could close the door. Getting out meant putting our shoes on first and then hopping back onto the stairs again so that we could open the door. We're young and able-bodied and the mountains were closed so we didn't have much issue with this. But I could only imagine what a big hassle this can get if we weren't as agile or had to lug around our ski/board equipment with us.

All in all, had an absolute wonderful stay here. Will definitely book here again if we ever decide to go through that nasty construction on hwy99 again.

I have to say I had a great stay at Glaciers Reach. I booked online at ---.com and had a overall friendly experience with the booking, check-in, etc. I read the other reviews of Glaciers Reach and think that one of the things you need to keep in mind is that each of the units are individually owned and could be managed by various property managers. The property management on site, Admira, is the company the works with ---.com and as such makes it a seamless, comfortable process. Check-in was a breeze with my customer door code, secure underground parking, etc. The suite was clean, well maintained, charming, and spacious. As for location, smack in the middle between blackcomb and whistler, awesome... True there is a bit of a walk to the village (5 minutes maximum to the heart of the village).

Finally, the private hot tubs are absolutely a PLUS! It is so relaxing to come home after a day on the slopes and slide into a private hot tub.

I recommend the Glaciers Reach if rented under the same conditions.

  • Liked — The relaxing peaceful environment in the heart of Whistler Blackcomb.
  • Disliked — All things considered... This is the perfect getaway at an affordable price.

My wife and I rented a unit . We would not return to Glacier's Reach. It looks like the large groups of men (4 or more) liked getting drunk and soaking in the hot tubs. The hot tub is the only unusual thing about this place. I have gone to Whistler almost every year for the past 10 years. I have stayed at several different condo's and hotels.

Problem list:
X - When we first got there and looked around, there was No
coffee maker pot!! Holy smokes!! And the fireplace wasnt
working !! We phoned the owner. All there phones were busy
Finally the fixed the fireplace and bought a new coffee maker
but it was too late. No coffee on the first morning there and
the room was cold because we could not turn on the
fireplace. This was fixed by the owner the second day.
Sucks! She said her housekeepers changed. Bulloney!

When we first walked in it smelled like the cooking of the last
people who stayed.

X - Too expensive $210/night and too many deficiencies

X - Too far from slopes and Village itself. You feel isolated from
the whole Whistler expereience. You are not saving any
money by staying so far. You have to walk through a maze
of paths to get out of your unit and then cross 4 lanes of
roadway to get to Marketplace area which is the farthest
from the Lifts. You could wait for the free shuttle if you want

X - Finding your unit in a maze of paths takes forever. The
numbers on the units are not in any sequence at all. Seems
random

X - As soon as you open the door you have to go up a long flight
of stairs. There is no place to put your bags or ski
equipment. Just all over the floor. Even a cheap hotel would
have a stand.

X - The kitchen table and night stands and TV stand in the
bedroom all had scratches and water damage. Really ugly.

X - Not a single box of tissue paper (Kleenex) in the whole
place. Just toilet paper ?? and Paper towels ??

X - Only one mirror ! The one in the bathroom which is
upstairs on the third floor!. . So how is anyone supposed to
see themselves with our ski equipment on? So you have to
do everything on the third floor and then walk all the way
down. Not fun after your tired

X - Both of the TV's had poor reception. Very fuzzy pictures
only basic channels. C'mon owners ! You are ripping
people off.

X - The radio reception had only one channel. Rock and
Roll.

X - The bed mattress is so hard. I could feel the springs coming
out. My back hurt the whole time. No mirrors in the bedroom.

X - The bathroom had soap, conditioner, body wash in a pump
dispenser that was attached on the wall inside the shower.
You don't get individual soaps or shampoos at all.
That was cheap and disgusting!! Very messy.

X - The shower head sprayed all over the place like it was
clogged. The lever was loose and hard to set temperature.

X - They provided laundry detergent but no fabric softner sheets
Any other place in Whistler with laundry provided this

X - The sofa is very old. When you sit in it you sink right down. My
was hurting. It was so old and uncomfortable.

I have complained to the owner after I arrived and received an email asking about our stay. I have asked for some money back but no replies as of this time.

Suggestions: Stay at a place inside the village like Bear or Deer lodges.

We just came back from a 2-night stay at Glacier's Reach, and it's quite wonderful, really. The complex is easy to find and since we booked our unit directly from the owner (through Allura, Listing #6), there wasn't a need to check in with anyone. Glacier's Reach I think consists of 3 buildings, either 2 or 3 story tall. Our unit is a (corner) two bedroom condo on the second/top floor, with private hot tub on one of the balconies. The master bedroom has 2 single beds, and the other bedroom has a queen bed. It should be noted each bedroom has an a/c unit. A fully equipped kitchen and washer/dryer were much appreciated. Overall decor is simple but certainly not shabby, and plenty of clean towels and toiletries were provided. The reason we picked this particular unit is because of the hot tub - it's got a decent view of the mountains and at the same time shaded by trees for privacy. The unit does overlook the club house/shared pool, but during our stay noise was not an issue. We were steps from the Marketplace square just across Lorimer Rd, and a leisurely stroll takes you right into the village. All in all, we'd be glad to stay at the same place again the next time we're in town; it's not luxurious (try Sundial Boutique for that), but we got a solid, clean 2 bedroom condo for a very reasonable rate, and that's the most important thing.

  • Liked — It's "homey" and in a nice location.
  • Disliked — Nothing to dislike.
  • Tips/Secrets — Book directly with the condo owners - you probably will save money.

The unit that we stayed in was average at best. The bedroom was only ok & it's NOT luxurious. Liked the private hot tub but didn't like the fact that people in the unit adjacent to our unit could see across. Not much privacy when it comes to using the hot tub. And if you want a quiet sleep, you'd have to turn off the hot tub & then warm it up again in the morning prior to using. And yes, the reservation centre is not in the same building, it's in another building. Didn't like the fact that there's two units under one building, there's not much privacy.
