Pan Pacific Whistler Village Centre
Ranked #4 of 49 Hotels in Whistler
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 23 January 2014

This was our fifth time to Whistler; fourth staying at the PanPac, first time at the PanPac Village Centre.

First let me say we love PanPac mountainside. I begrudge every single step taken in ski boots, and the Mountainside property is so close you could throw a skiboot from the back door and hit the Blackcomb gondy. Bliss. Plus, ski rental on the ground floor and a great hot tub with a view of the fireworks. What's not to love?

But we left our booking a bit late this year and were unable to secure a two bedroom apartment for the dates we wanted, so with our hearts in our mouths, we agreed to stay at the Village Centre instead.

First, the bad -- it is a couple of hundred metres from the lifts. Well, maybe 150.

Now the good - you can store your gear at the Panpac mountainside, so really there's no need to clump around in skiboots and certainly no need to carry skis.

Also good - much less nighttime noise from the grooming machinery. This has been a constant feature of our previous stays mountainside, so either the grooming people have found a less noisy way to groom the lower slopes, or being a few buildings back makes all the difference. Big plus.

Also, the rooms at the Village Centre, while essentially the same as Mountainside, are appreciably bigger. Not twice as big or anything like that, but the living area is substantially larger and we certainly appreciated that over the course of our ten days.

But the thing we found we really liked, surprisingly, was the difference being in the middle of the village. We'd always thought the mountainside property to be conveniently located, but at the Village centre there's any number of restaurants you could literally hold your breath and run to - they're that close. Several nights I didn't even bother putting on a jacket as we'd only be outside for less an a minute. It more than made up for a 4 minute walk each morning.

As for the thing we thought we'd miss most (sitting in the hot tub watching late skiers come down the hill), Village Centre has something you really need to know about. Every day between 4 and 5pm, your first drink at the bar is free (or milk & cookie). Hardly a big deal, right? Well, the thing that makes it work is the hot tubs just outside the bar.

Now, normally I feel somewhat self-conscious walking around a hotel wearing a bathrobe. But at PanPac Village Centre, this is where the action is. The cognoscenti pull on their togs, put on their bathrobe and wander down to the bar to grab a free drink and go sit in the hot tubs. Most of the people you see in reception are wearing bath towels. Most of the people you catch in the elevator are wearing bath towels. People actually sit in the bar in their bath towels. If you smile sweetly enough, the waitress might even bring your drink out and hand it to you while you're sitting in the hot tub. Now, I know you can (and people do) take drinks to the Mountainside hot tub, but it's kinda inconvenient. At Village Centre, the whole thing has pretty much become an *institution*. And I approve :)

One other thing - Village Centre includes breakfast. The breakfasts are serviceable but not great. In fact, for 8 of our ten mornings we choose to make pancakes in our room rather than troop down to breaky. It's not that the breakfasts are bad, just not worth the inconvenience and extra time compared to our usual habit of pancakes interleaved with getting ready.

Room Tip: Higher level room, two bedroom. Make sure you put on your swimmers and head down to the hot tub for...

Dear valued guest,

Thank you ever so much for taking a few moments to share you recent trip experiences online with us here.

Well what can I say - Look like those 150 additional steps to the mountain have turned your eye a little!

Of course, you are correct - there indeed a few tiny nuances between the Pan Pacific Mountainside and the Village Centre and each has their benefits. I thank you for for generous;y elaborating on your take of both properties and how well you received them.

It certainly sounds as if the hosted apres hour was a big hit with you and I'm so glad that the gathering of robes, cookies and drink offerings has apparently left an indelible mark on you.

We'd love to welcome you back to either of our two properties, whichever you end up choosing, so please stay in touch and let us know how we can assist you.

Warm regards,

Ashley McMillan - Guest Experience Manager - Pan Pacific Whistler - ashley.mcmillan@panpacific.com

This is a hotel that is very good at catering to skiers -- from the room design to the amenities to the service. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite (no den) with six adults...2 per bedroom and 2 on the pull out couch in the living room. It was a little tight but still very comfortable. The valet took all our skis upon arrival and put them in a locker pre-assigned to us over at PP Mountainside. The staff at this hotel is incredibly helpful and very pleasant to interact with. They have the right mix of organization and professionalism but also chill vibe. We used the hot tubs daily and partook in the happy hour. Also, location can't be beat. All six of us couldn't have been happier w/this hotel. They're great! Tip: There is an awesome grocery store within a 5 min walk of the hotel. Also, Starbucks is right down the steps. (We didn't love the hotel's coffee at the buffet.)

From the moment we arrived, everyone on staff was incredible and a pleasure to deal with! Not only is the service at this hotel exceptional, but our suite was absolutely perfect and the location of the hotel couldn't be better! The suite was immaculate and spacious, the kitchen had all the amenities you would need, with a large bathroom, great storage in the bedroom (not to mention the most comfortable bed ever!) and our large patio looked right out at the breathtaking mountains. The hotel staff delivers your equipment to a locker at the Pan Pacific Mountainside right at the base of the mountain, so it's easily accessible for skiing/snowboarding at any time. When they found out it was our honeymoon they left a bottle of champagne and a lovely card from the staff on our dining room table - such a kind gesture. The hot tubs, sauna and outdoor pool were also fantastic and the massages at the spa were amazing. The 'gym' is quite small and a bit awkwardly located, but it was never busy (so machines were always available) and the equipment seemed to be in very good condition - really everything you'd need. Breakfast was included and was great, as was the daily apres-ski hour with a complementary drink. We would never consider staying anywhere else in Whistler. A HUGE thank you to all the staff for making this trip and our stay so memorable!!

Room Tip: Mountain views are always nice!

Dear Jennifer

Thank you for taking the opportunity once back from your travels to share your experiences and comments online with us here.

We were thrilled that you'd chosen to spend your time on your honeymoon with us here in Whistler and only too happy to provide a small gift in your suite as our way of saying 'congratulations'.

It seems that during your four day stay you certainly managed to check out all of the hotels amenities and services and reading how you so enjoyed them, this is certainly rewarding to see how the team's hardwork and efforts have come together..

It was our pleasure to host you both and we shall look forward to welcoming you both back.

Best wishes and future hapiness from the Pan Pacific team.

My husband and I have been to Whistler over forty times now, and plan to keep going back. We have stayed at a dozen of different hotels until we came upon the Pan Pacific :) It is by far the best accommodation in whistler, in our opinion. The rooms are very spacious, clean and beautiful. Separate bedroom with a second tv, full kitchen and huge bathroom with a deep bath tub to soak those soar muscles are just some of the reasons why we love this place so much. We also bring our dog with us often & the staff at the Pan Pacific are always willing to accommodate ( pet friendly but you would never know it, as the rooms are pristine ), he even has his own dog bed and treats waiting for him when we arrive.
The buffet breakfast has tons to choose from, if you don't feel like cooking:). The outdoor pool is heated along with two amazing hot tubs.
Location wise, you are literally in the heart of the village, you can get everywhere and anywhere you need to by foot. Hope you enjoy your stay as much as we always do!!!

Good Day to you Mr & Mrs Montgomery

Well we're mighty glad you 'happened across ourselves too.
We are thrilled to read that everything about the clean, spacious suites and their deep soaker tubs after a long day are just what the doctor ordered. The fact that our other amenities, such as our outdoor pool and hot tubs, generous complimentary buffet breakfast and convenient central location are also well received by all of our team here.

As you say, your pet dog will always be welcomed by our team and we hope that he's always comfortable with his own bed as well.

Hopefully we'll be able to look forward to welcoming you back for a long time to come.

Stayed in a 1 bedroom suite with a den with our 3 kids and not only was there a pull out sofa in the den, there was one in the living room too! Our package highlights included free wifi, free buffet breakfast for the 5 of us (2 adults and 3 kids), free lockers (for ski equipment at the Pan Pacific Mountainside), and any newspaper downloadable for free on Press Reader! There is a complimentary car service that can also take you to nearby areas like restaurants which are too far of a walk at night and with kids in tow.

The hotel provides Aveda bathroom amenities and you can brew your own Starbucks coffee (they give you 2 packs)! Basic items like dishwasher soap cubes, kitchen liquid cleaner (for dishes/cups), cream & sugar, and salt were also provided. We particularly appreciated the corkscrew as part of the utensils and kitchen items in the fully equipped kitchen as the BC wines are a must try!

The only slight drawback was the buffet breakfast with it's limited offerings of cafeteria-style hot food (typically waffle, hashbrown, scrambled eggs, bacon and/or sausages). There is a decent selection of cereals and breads and some yoghurts. Food tends to finish off quickly, esp. during peak periods and it is a slight wait for the replenishment. We would often have breakfast in a nearby brasserie.

The concierge is very efficient and will happily book your restaurants and other activities. Tip: reserve at the restaurants weeks before your arrival as it is impossible to snag a booking last minute, esp. during peak season.

If you plan on doing a little shopping, get the small discount vouchers which are widely distributed as there is an instant 10% off many of the top stores like North Face, Columbia, etc.

Overall, we loved our 10 night stay at the hotel, it's central location and proximity to all the shops and grocery stores and restaurants and the 3-5 minute walk to PP Mountainside (you must walk via the road, not through the village as that will take you 10-15 mins) to access your ski equipment then another 3 min walk to the slopes!!

We definitely plan on going back for another ski trip!

Stayed for 7 nights over xmas. Very comfortable room (upper floor). Spacious with comfy bed. Very helpful staff. Great outdoor hot tub - used every day after skiing. Lockers at PP Mountainside very welcome to avoid carrying skis but a bit cramped and busy - go before 8am. Would thoroughly recommend.

Good, well located property with generous size rooms and great beds. Service is great, both concierge and front desk. Breakfast can be a little more haphazard. Very good beds and in general good soundproofing. Stick with the upper floors if you can.

Room Tip: Upper floors. Although one side is opposite the fire station.
