Wife and I stayed here on a Wednesday to get away from some sick family members. The room was great but the mattress was very outdated and nothing but coils. The on-site restaurant gave us decent service in the morning for breakfast and it was very good. We shared a plate with extra bacon and an extra egg and we're happy with the $18 we spent. The place is showing some age and it does need an update but the grounds are beautiful.

This was one of the worst places we've ever stayed. We went there for a ringette tournament with kids aged 7 to 12. Girls. Right off the bat, the staff was very curt with the check in. The clerk informed me only 2 breakfasts were included in our room so we had to buy 2 more for each day we were there!! This cost an additional $12 per day. Got to our room and there was no bar fridge. The room was ok...so I went to the desk and asked to have a bar fridge. The front desk lady told me they are all booked and I should have reserved a room with a fridge. I stated I was not given the option because that's a pretty basic commodity at pretty much every hotel we've been to. She said sorry and that I should have been told that when I booked. Consequently after talking to other parents I learned that other folks with standard rooms such as our did have bar fridges. In fact, the parents 2 doors down showed me their room and sure enough it had a bar fridge while the front desk clerk adamantly guaranteed me there were no standard rooms with fridges. And these people weren't asked either.

Next the heater didn't work and subsequently discovered that there is a switch on the wall which just looks like a wall switch which must be on for the heater to work. Again, I troubled her to come look at this.

The next morning we went to breakfast if you could call it that. There were 4 heated trays with bacon/sausage, eggs, hashbrowns and finally waffles. I asked were the juice was. And a staff member replied 'I can get you some but you have to pay for that.' I was like 'what?' OK...got a glass of juice for $3.00. The wife asked for some cereal and they had it 'out back'. She had to pay for milk for the cereal. There was no fruit, no apples, no bananas, nothing. No yogurt....normal everyday fair at every other hotel in our experiences. So ok...we work with what we have and pay extra again. Come to find out that this weekend only people had to pay for extra breakfasts for kids. Every other weekend during the year kids 12 and under eat breakfast for free. We were being gouged. The heated containers were often empty and when they brought bacon or hashbrowns out, the amounts were so small they were gone after 4 or 5 people got a portion.

They were not prepared for our group, we filled the place at a very slow time of the year and the staff seemed very bothered that we were there giving them business. They ran out of towels for the pool. They had no extra pillows. And it depended on who you asked if you got one out of 'storage' with the christmas decorations.

The back entry to the lower level was a mess with litter when we arrived...beer cans, wrappers, plastic bags thrown about....and not form our group...it was there for a while. And if you timed it right, you could see a rat or two lingering around this area because of the garbage.

We would never go back here and many people told the staff the same after they accused people of being to noisy or trying to skip out on a bill (juice) numerous times. One even said that would be fine 'considering the trouble we caused them!' Unbelievable.

Room tip: You have to ask for a fridge or microwave when you book. Just don't stay here.

The building needs some TLC, but our room was lovely (top floor), the staff super friendly, and the grounds beautiful for a nice stroll. We stayed for 4 days just to have a little break and it was perfect for us - in every respect. Well priced, super clean and again, the staff were great.

Room tip: I'm told the higher the floor, the nicer the room, but we looked into rooms on other floors, and they looked lovely too

The building is a little older. As pointed out by a other review there are no automatic doors. The rooms were clean but the wallpaper was damaged, bathtub was stained and some tiles were cracked.

The pool was cooler than I would've liked it. We didn't stay in long and my five year old found it chilly. The hot tub was a hot mess. The Jets don't work, the paint and enamel was coming off in chunks. The view and grounds are beautiful though and the desk staff was friendly.

We went to the dinning room which ended up turning into room service. We waited a long time for our food and our child started to fall asleep. We asked our food to be sent to our room and ended up waiting about 80 mins for it. It was just pub grub that we ordered and the place wasn't busy. It was leaving the next day we noticed a road sign "looking for a cook". I guess that explains the wait. The food itself was ok. The nachos were very loaded with toppings.

This is a full-service hotel and conference centre, set on the banks of the St. John river. The onsite restaurant serves excellent food, and the servers are friendly and efficient. Front desk staff went out of their way to accommodate our needs. Although the building is ageing somewhat, it was built to very high standards and still gives an upscale feel. We enjoyed our stay, and booked ourselves in for a second night.

Room tip: Rooms on the Riverside have a nice view of the grounds and the river
