Cape Spear Lighthouse

Cape Spear is a must if you are in St. John's. Once here, you might as well take a look at the lighthouse which is well preserved and can give you an idea on how things were back in the day. You can see the whole lighthouse in less than 5 minutes and go back outside to enjoy the walks and views from North America's easternmost point.

PS. The "Very Good" rating is for the lighthouse. I would give "Excellent" to Cape Spear!

Unbelievable view from the farthest east point of Canada. The soldiers who were here in WWII must have been alternately bored and captivated while cold and wet, no doubt.

Minutes from downtown don't miss this spot. All the commercial crap was closed but this spot is probably better for it.

Bring a kid and a kite but the kid may fly away.

Cape Spear Lighthouse is a must when visiting St. John's. It is a bit of a drive out of the city center but the atmosphere there is great. If you're into photography you really need to go there.

It's a short drive from downtown St. John's out to Cape Spear (about 20 minutes), and it's worth a visit if you have the time.
When we went the lighthouse was closed, as was the visitor centre (it seems a lot of attractions are closed off season!), but you can still walk up to the lighthouse and peer into the windows. It looked interesting inside, and that are some informative signs outside the visitor centre to take a look at. The WWII guns are also worth a look, and again they have informative signs at them to learn about why the guns were there and how they worked.

Hiked along the cliffs - was absolutely amazing to see the ocean and the panoramic view! The lighthouse was a little touch of history which was great for pictures. A must see!
