my friends and i stayed 3 days 2 nights at blachford this past february. we had an absolutely fantastic time. the lodge is comfortable and beautiful. the activities - dog mushing, snowmobiling to ice formations and aurora watching were highlights for us. the staff was super helpful and we cannot say enough nice things about Dave.

if you are looking to have an arctic adventure and see the aurora i would highly recommend booking here.

Room Tip: they have cabins and lodges you can stay in. we stayed in the lodge which is apart of the main buil...

In conjunction with my wife & adult daughter, I spent 5 great nights at this lodge. We (the daughter & I ) had always wanted to see the aurora and we had three excellent nights with the last two being severely affected by fatigue (ours) and cloud (the sky's). I was fearful the days would drag but not so. There was mushing (the highlight after the aurora), skidooing, ice hockey (modified rules etc) and quite a few other activities which get you hot to the point of undoing parkas etc even if it is -30ºC. Be aware this is a lodge, there are no en-suites. If you are staying in the lodge the separate shower room, separate washroom, separate vanity work well (candles serve as night lights to guide you to the various amenities). There are cabins with limited facilities so ensure you get all the details if you are considering these.
Staff excellent and meals (buffets) are nourishing, tasty and well prepared especially when you consider the logistics of getting everything other than fresh fish to the kitchen.

Room Tip: Ask for the Sunrise 2 room which sleeps a max of 4 but has windows covering almost 180º mainly to th...

Mike runs a fantastic lodge, where his warmth, attentive staff, and own attention to detail made our stay there magical. We were fortunate to stay in the Sunrise rooms, but the Sunset rooms alike have beautiful views of the lake, and importantly, the aurora. We spent the days in great company of staff and fellow guests, and went dog sledding, ski-doing, and cross country skiing, and must say it was worth the time and money (even though it required a lot of both - we travelled all the way from Hong Kong for this!)

Flying in by ski-plane onto Blachford Lake was fantastic and the almost 5-hour Aurora Borealis extravaganza our first night there was amazing. The aurora were even more breathtaking and beautiful than I could have imagined! The staff were great and the meals hearty. I enjoyed snowshoeing, skating, snowmobiling and breathing in the stillness of the pristine wilderness. I stayed in the Trapper cabin, which was quite rustic and required a bit of a commitment to keep the fire going all night--but it was worth it. Thank you, Mike and Blachford Lodge staff, for a fabulous weekend away! I'd highly recommend it! - J

This was my third time at Blachford. It is a wonderful spot - completely remote, peaceful, everything we were hoping for. The staff could not have been nicer - warm and friendly, accommodating. I feel that I've made new friends in them.
One suggestion: if your main goal is to see the Northern Lights, I think you should consider spending a minimum of five nights. Any less time and you run the risk of overcast skies, etc. But when they do come out, oh my! They are spectacular.
If you just want a northern Canada experience, any amount of time would be good - there are many daytime activities, such as dog-sledding, snow mobiling, cross country skiing (gear provided) hot-tubbing, or just relaxing around the lodge.
I can't wait for my next trip up there.

Room Tip: I like Sunrise I or II

A must for Northern lights watching. On 3 nights spent at the lodge, the last 2 nights were convenient for watching the Northern lights. And above that, very carefull and caring staff who made our stay the smoothest possible. Outdoors activities like dogs mushing and snowmobiling were very professionnal. From informations received, the Northern lights can also be watched also from mid August to mid September thus avoiding huge winter clothing. Even far away from Yellowknife town, the lodge's comfort is sufficient to make your stay worthwhile.

In Summer or Spring time, it should be a good place for fishing in the clear water lake, hiking around the forests and breathing pure and fresh air. A piece of heaven to visit once in your lifetime.

Room Tip: Lodge accomodation is better than Cabin as the toilets and bathroom are in under same roof. For Cab...

We visited this lodge for a 2 night stay in January to see the Aurora Borealis. The staff were amazing, the food was great and the accommodations were lovely. We stayed in the main lodge which has a cozy and rustic atmosphere. The terrain surrounding the lodge is beautiful and we had a great time cross country skiing with our host, Mike. Was it cold? Heck yah but worth the effort. I would definitely go back.

Blachford Lake Lodge, a family run business for over 30 years, is the only fly-in wilderness resort situated on Blachford Lake (60 miles south-east of Yellowknife). The 25-minute bush plane flight from Yellowknife is often considered as one of the highlights of a trip to Blachford. We pride ourselves on complimenting your northern experience with great food, a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and dedicated customer service. Our winter season (January to April) offers great opportunities to watch the aurora (northern lights), to go snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, ice-fishing or simply to relax in the hot tub.Our summer season (June to October) offers great fishing. Canoe or kayak under the midnight sun (June/July) or hike one of the many nature trails. By late summer (mid August) the aurora becomes more visible again and one can watch the northern lights being reflected in the water.
