“Super Relaxing”
Reviewed 9 July 2013

Excellent service and staff!! Purpose of the trip was a relaxing girls weekend and that is what we did. They offer many other things like boating, fishing, hiking, etc but did not partake. We suntanned, some of us swam and we all enjoyed the hot tub. The food was great too!!! All in all, it was a great weekend. Plan on coming again in the winter.

Room Tip: I stayed in a cabin, not in the lodge. The cabin was very clean, with double bunk on the ground flo...

If you are looking for a place to watch the Northern lights, or even just to relax and escape the busy city life, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO!! Best weekend of my life filled of fun activities from snow mobiling, to dog sledding, ice skating, watching the auora or moon rise, late night hot tub relaxation, and more! Added to all that, Great food!! The owners are the friendliest people ever. It feels like being part of a family and community there.. unlike your typical hotel/lodge experiences.

Would go back in a heartbeat!!!!

Ditto to all the other EXCELLENT reviews of this fabulous frozen adventure! Thumbs up to Jen and the staff in the kitchen...every meal was scrumptious and the never ending cookie tray kept us going through the day..between the activities. Remember to do "the aurora dance" should the weather not be cooperating. Accommodations were comfortable and the north facing room allowed us to lay in bed and watch the Aurora. Dave and Mike are great companions throughout the week and full of knowledge and some good humor. Probably my most favorite vacation of all time...cannot wait to go back and try some fishing under the Aurora. Here is a video of our time at this wonderful lodge.

We, a group of 11, stayed at the Blachford Lake Lodge for the three-day-two-night package from March 22 to 24. Our main goal was to watch the northern lights. When we arrived in Yellowknife on the afternoon of Mar 21st, the sky was cloudy with flurries, so everyone felt pretty downcast – we travelled all this way from Toronto to see the northern lights yet the weather was not cooperating!
We woke up the next day (March 22) to a still cloudy sky with flurries. We travelled to the lodge by ski plane, which took about 25 minutes through clouds, some sun, then snow (oh no!!). When we landed the sky was finally clear. After dinner, we were briefed by the manager Dave and given tips on how to photograph an aurora. This is much appreciated as indeed, when the moments arrive, there is no time to fiddle with the camera settings in the dark. Chris, a staff member assigned for the wakeup service, banged on our doors around 2:30am. At lightning speed, we put on our clothes and rushed outside with our tripods – the show was on! Streaks and waves of green light flashed here and there, some near the horizon and some overhead. It lasted about an hour before we tucked away our cameras and went back to bed.
When we woke up the next day (March 23), we were excited and relieved that we already achieved our goal for visiting. That day, some of us tried snowmobiling on an 18km track, through many scenic lakes and bushes, and it was a lot of fun. I turned in early that evening and got woken up around 1am. That night’s aurora show was even more spectacular, with the whole southeast sky lit up in red and other colors. The magical experience of watching the aurora swirling outside the window, while lying on bed in the warm room, is indescribable.
The food at the lodge was excellent and all of us felt Chef Janice did a great job. The pork tenderloin was one of the best we ever tasted. My personal favorite was the moose stew. The salads were also exquisite. Great service from Bronwen, who always responded to all our questions promptly. The only inconvenience is the lack of en suite.

Had a great time here! We enjoyed the plane ride to the lodge. We went snowshoeing, snow-mobiling, dog-sledding and walking. We saw the aurora EVERY NIGHT. The workers at the lodge were great. They went outside every 10 minutes at night (until 1:00pm) so they could wake us when the aurora was visible. They gave us all sorts of help to make sure we were comfortable and had a great time. One worker showed us how to make "cabana sucre" with maple syrup. We call had a chance to try it. They showed us an ice game called "kloob". If we had a question, they had the time to answer it. Dave, the manager, even shared some aurora photos with us since we had not brought a tripod for our camera. He was always ready to answer questions or help us. Janice, the cook was great. We had fantastic food and many choices. As a vegetarian, I rarely get to choose. I appreciate her work. The staff also went fishing and we had freshly caught fish!

Room Tip: Sunrise rooms (1 & 2) are bigger than sunset rooms(1,2 & 3), but the aurora can be seen from...

In conjunction with my wife & adult daughter, I spent 5 great nights at this lodge. We (the daughter & I ) had always wanted to see the aurora and we had three excellent nights with the last two being severely affected by fatigue (ours) and cloud (the sky's). I was fearful the days would drag but not so. There was mushing (the highlight after the aurora), skidooing, ice hockey (modified rules etc) and quite a few other activities which get you hot to the point of undoing parkas etc even if it is -30ºC. Be aware this is a lodge, there are no en-suites. If you are staying in the lodge the separate shower room, separate washroom, separate vanity work well (candles serve as night lights to guide you to the various amenities). There are cabins with limited facilities so ensure you get all the details if you are considering these.
Staff excellent and meals (buffets) are nourishing, tasty and well prepared especially when you consider the logistics of getting everything other than fresh fish to the kitchen.

Room Tip: Ask for the Sunrise 2 room which sleeps a max of 4 but has windows covering almost 180º mainly to th...

Canoe or kayak under the midnight sun (June/July) or hike one of the many nature trails. By late summer (mid August) the aurora becomes more visible again and one can watch the northern lights being reflected in the water.
