Owner description: Situated in the capital of the Northwest Territories, the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) produces exhibitions that tell stories about the land, people, and history of the NWT. However, the PWNHC is "more than a museum". In addition to its exhibits, education, collections, and conservation programs, the PWNHC houses the NWT Archives, provides technical, logistic, and financial support to individuals and organizations involved in cultural activities and the arts, and authorizes archaeological studies in the NWT. The Museum also houses a cafe that provides delectable fares from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on weekdays.

“Unfortunate changes left my guests unimpressed”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

Have been bringing guests to this museum for the past 20 years. Always a favourite .... until now. The place has been gutted! Where are the displays on Dene culture and the mining history? I don't mind the old-town-weaving-from-fur (of my trusty dog) artwork but it is an imposed southern culture not the NWT culture being displayed here. I think political correctness, as defined by southern Canada has taken over this museum. Not good at all!! Hope to see changes soon.

“cafe excellent”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

on our visit to Yellowknife we visited all the touristy places. We were bery impressed with the quality of the museum for such a small city. One highlight was the cafe, excellent lunch at a reasonable price.
