We stayed as a family here, my daughter who is a teen loved the room it was clean and cozy and the breakfast was great with homemade biscuits!! The hospitality was very warming , very nice and friendly people! My kids loved having WIFI of course and the beds were very comfortable , the bathroom very clean! Would stay here again anytime!! Stayed there 2 nights. Very comfortable older location. Very clean. Very friendly and obligatin staff. Centrally located. Pool was clean and warm.
Included breakfast was OK. We had a room, but a cottage would have been great if family was with us.

Actually didn't intend to stay in Shelburne only visit the historic port. Car broke down outside of Shelburne and had to find a place to stay. Got a ride (with family) to Mackenzie's Motel and Cottages and the owners / operators couldn't have been nicer. They actually offered to lend us their car, on a number of occasions, to save us walking into town! In the evening we again walked into town to catch a sunset boat tour and when we were about 1/2 way into town the owner appeared in his truck as he didn't want us to miss the tour and wanted to give us a ride. Held a room for us for the following night in the event our car wasn't fixed (it was). Our daughter enjoyed the pool a great deal. We stayed in cabin # 16 and it was clean, comfortable and roomy. The breakfast was excellent including home made baked goods. I would highly recommend this hotel / cabins especially due to the hospitality and kindness of the owners. Can't say enough nice things about them.

Room Tip: Cabin # 16 very nice, clean and comfortable.

My wife and I, and three kids (aged 16,6,6) stayed at Mackenzie's on our summer holiday to visit our folks in Shelburne, coordinating with my brother's and sister's families who also stayed at Mackenzie's. I booked our reservation with the owner, Sandra, who remembered us from our previous stay in 2009 and was very courteous and helpful over email - replying promptly.

We stayed in the two-bedroom Goodick cottage for 7 nights in July/August 2013. The cottage was very well kept and up to date and suited our needs very well. The three kids shared one bedroom with a double bed and an extra roll-away bed. The livingroom was nice and opened onto a terrace - the photos on the Mackenzie's website are accurate and give you a good idea. Breakfast is simple and serve yourself which suited us fine.

What we liked:
the friendly service of Sandra and Jim, the owners, and staff who were happy to help
the spacious and relatively quiet cottage (nice to be self-catering with kitchen etc, compared to a hotel)
breakfast and wireless internet being included
the pool, which was a hit with the kids (the heater was not working when we arrived but Jim the owner was right on it and had it fixed within the day)

The motel & cottages are ~1km from the historic downtown area of Shelburne so a relatively easy walk or a very quick ride/drive. We know Shelburne from many viisits and enjoyed eating out at Charlotte Lane Cafe (always fantastic), and going to nearby Birchtown (10min drive) and Roseway Beach (another 20min past Birchtown).

Room Tip: The newer cottages, across the small stream, are more spacious and brighter (more light) than the or...

It is an older motel so don't expect anything special. It was central spot, clean & friendly, walking distance to the waterfront. Close to some restaurants by the water. It was a good price for the money.

From the moment I talked to the owner on the phone, to the moment we left the motel, we felt welcome and excited about Mackenzie's Motel and Cottages. The overall memory of the weekend in July, 2014 was very positive. Everything was absolutely spotless, including the shining outdoor pool. The breakfast was filling and fresh. The bed was comfortable and we slept 9 hours straight! We thought the price was very fair for such a great location.....several world class beaches and the best seafood very nearby. Can't wait for the next visit to the South Shore. Mackenzies will definitely be our choice.

Room Tip: We loved the motel room. We were there just to shower and sleep. We viewed the chalets which would...

Mackenzie's was the cleanest, friendliest place to stay! We thoroughly enjoyed our "visit" at this location. We stayed only one night throughout our travels of Nova Scotia, but when we go back, we will definitely stay there again! Highly recommend.

Room Tip: We were two couples. One was in a cottage and the other in the motel itself. Both rooms were clean...
