Wonderful Inn in gorgeous Wolfville N.S.

Wife and I stayed here for three nights in September '13 and it was the perfect location for us to visit wineries, delicious restaurants, browse farmers markets and overall have a relaxing weekend.

Has the feel of an old-timey inn - there is no elevator, traditional check in counter and high-tea served daily. Be prepared for a more traditional experience when staying here, but if its what you are expecting that you will very much appreciate it.

First the inn is quite lovely in décor and the location is walking distance to the town. However we found the overall experience very unwelcoming. The staff were unfriendly and we felt ignored. The noise from the restaurant was quite loud to quite late in the evening ( 1am on Sat. night). the primary focus of the inn appears to be the restaurant and not the guests. Will not return and will not recommend to others.

Arriving on a rainy November day, this impressive looking, mansard-roofed mansion just outside of the central business area was immediately inviting. I looked at two rooms before deciding on another that was somewhat smaller but was located in the original building. Called "Gaspereau", it felt right. The walls are painted dark mushroom, the floors are hardwood and my spacious bathroom was surely an updated original with a lovely stained glass window, original pedestal basin and claw-foot tub and new shower stall. Comfortable bed, feather pillows, wide-screen TV, Egyptian cotton towels.

After exploring the town, which IMO is not really one of NS's most charming, I decided to eat at the inn. Started with a martini made with gin distilled on PEI (well done, bartender!) and had the braised lamb shank ($23) served with roasted beats, new potatoes and asparagus. All delicious and perfect comfort food for a rainy night. Service was polished and friendly. They also offer afternoon tea to guests with sweets to nibble and I had an absolutely delicious shortbread cookie.

Altogether, a very, very good deal at $98 with the CAA discount. Check my other reviews, I don't give "excellent" ratings very often.

The Blomidon Inn is a wonderful place! The rooms are spectacular, the food in the restaurant is great and the service is outstanding. We were booked for the Romance package and had chosen the Superior Room. Upon arrival we were immediately upgraded to the Horton Honeymoon Suite which was a beautiful room! Yes, as others have said, there are stairs and no elevator - we did not have much trouble, although I am sure if you did there would be someone to help you.

The next morning we found that the shower wasn't quite working - low pressure, sputtering, cold water. We called down to the front desk and Michael answered and said he would check out what was happening as he knew the city was doing some work nearby. In the meantime we ate breakfast, which was included. When we returned it still wasn't working. Michael immediately gave us the key to the room next door for us to shower in and offered to upgrade us again for our trouble! We would have stayed in the Horton room as it was lovely but were worried the shower could not be fixed in time. Shortly after we left the room the plumber came in to look at it and it wasn't an immediate fix so it was good that we switched rooms. Because we were already in a Suite Michael graciously upgraded us to an Executive Suite which are separate buildings located behind the Inn.

These suites are still part of the Old Inn and retain much of the charm. Ours was decorated with the antique style but included a newly renovated bathroom which jacuzzi tub which was really nice. It also had a separate bedroom with comfortable bed, a balcony that overlooked the gardens and a sitting room that was attached to a private kitchen and a fireplace. You can't go wrong with one of these Executive Suites - it was a wonderful accommodation - thank you Michael!!! Thank you also for calling some of the wineries ahead of time and arranging some tastings for us :)

At the 3 course dinner that night which was included with the package, Michael provided us with a bottle of wine on the house - he even asked us which wineries we had visited that day and chose one he thought we would like based on the wines we bought. My husband didn't want to choose from the fixed menu for his meal and opted for the $40 worth of food from their regular menu. By the end of the meal we had gone over a bit because we had ordered an appetizer and my husband chose the steak. Michael came over and told us that everything would be included.

WOW WOW WOW. Michael - if you are reading this - you are the best!

The package included a bottle of champagne and box of chocolates delivered to the room - because we had the wine with dinner, Michael offered to give it to us on the way out the next morning. When we went to check out - he showed up with a bottle of champagne in one hand and the wine that my husband had told him was his favourite from the wine tour we did the day before. He said we could choose either - we took the wine ;p. Couldn't believe that he remembered considering how busy they were at dinner!

What else is there to say - excellent accommodation in a beautiful setting, tasty food (I had Atlantic salmon for dinner that had been filleted that morning and was covered in lobster sauce - yum!), beautiful grounds with a path through the gardens and service that is out of this world!

It is in a great location - not too far from the main street in Wolfville and very close to some of the areas best wineries! The Blomidon Inn obviously takes a lot of pride in how they conduct business and treat their patrons and it shows! Thank you for an exceptional experience - we will be back!

Room Tip: If you can afford it or are lucky enough to be upgraded, the Executive Suites are outstanding! Also...

The Inn is spectacular. The room was lovely, with steps up to the comfortable and large bed, with antiques sprinkled throughout, including framed pamphlets from the turn of the century advertising stagecoach prices. The town is something out of a Hollywood movie set that depicts a charming small village that oozes history and character. The service was excellent (they gave our 16 year old daughter her own room so that her old parents could relax in peace). The breakfast was tasty and the gardens beautiful. What's not to love? Highly recommend.

My husband and I booked the Gourmet Getaway and stayed for 1 night in the Perth Cottage. The cottage is furnished with antique-style furniture. It features a small kitchenette with fridge and microwave, a large bathroom with a 2-person jetted tub, small sitting area with fireplace and a large bedroom with a small private patio. Very comfortable and cozy. We had supper at the restaurant, a set menu with 4 courses (Gourmet Getaway). With each course, we had a choice of 2 items. The entre was a choice between salmon and a stuffed pork roast. We both chose the roast, which was rather dry and flavourless. However the other courses were very tasty and the apple/carmel cheesecake was the best I've ever had! Our server was a bit slow and not as attentive as I would have expected in such a high-end restaurant but maybe she was new. All other staff were very friendly and helpful. I wish we could have stayed a 2nd night to explore the gardens, but they were fully booked. Within walking distance to the Visitor's Centre where you catch the Big Pink Bus which drops you off at 4 different wineries. All in all, a great place to stay.

Room Tip: The Perth Cottage, though expensive, is private and quiet. Even has it's own parking space and p...

What a treasure we stumbled upon! The staff is amazing and the ambiance inside and out draws you in. The rooms are charming with old world meeting new. You have to eat dinner at their restaurant at least once and the morning continental is one of the best.Make sure to take in the garden walk before you leave!
