Hillsdale House Inn
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 12 August 2012

This house is stunning, and our room was fantastic. Only stayed one night, but could have made it a week if I knew how beautiful the area was and how good our stay would be. The house is only a few minutes walk from the sights of the town, and the grounds themselves are quite impressive. Our suite was furnished with fine antiques and all the right touches. It was fun just to be in the room!

We stayed at the Hillsdale House Inn for three nights in July while attending our son's wedding, which took place on site. We truly can't say enough good things about this inn and the owners, Val and Paul. The wedding went off without a hitch, thanks in no small part to the tireless efforts of our hosts. Our room was very comfortable and the breakfasts were generous and tasty. The grounds where the wedding was held were immaculately kept and provided a wonderful backdrop for this cherished event.

I would highly recommend the Hillsdale House Inn for anyone contemplating holding their own wedding or other special event there, but also as a welcoming and restful stop for travellers exploring this part of Nova Scotia. Annapolis Royal is a pretty little town with some very interesting historical sites, beautiful gardens and a small but lively main street. On Saturdays, the outdoor market is well worth a stop. If you're touring Nova Scotia, consider Annapolis Royal and the Hillsdale House Inn.

My brother and his wife were married here at the Hillsdale in July. My husband and I, along with other family and friends, stayed here for a couple nights and enjoyed our stay immensely. The rooms are quaint and comfortable, and the inn is charming and is just a short walk away from the main area of town.

The hosts, Val and Paul, were incredibly warm and accommodating. They truly went above and beyond for my brother’s wedding - everything was perfect. The next morning my husband and I had to get up quite early to catch a flight to Montreal, and Val and Paul were up and ready to see us off with a packed breakfast of muffins, granola bars and fresh blueberries for the road.

Highly recommended!

My husband and I (and our family and friends) stayed at the Hillsdale House Inn for our wedding, and we have only good things to say about the place and the service. This place has a happy and welcoming feel to it as you enter the building. There is lots of space available in the garden to relax and potter about, and the parlors are beautiful and inviting, perfect for sitting down with a book or having a nice chat. The rooms are quiet and each has a different color theme and layout. The food is excellent, and the owners, Val and Paul, were very accommodating. They were ever so gracious and generous with their time and space, and together with their lovely and competent staff, made our day a complete success. If you are looking for a nice place to stay while visiting Annapolis Royal, make sure to give these guys a try. You will have the impression to travel back in time! And it is an excellent wedding venue!

We are repeat visitors at the Hillsdale House. Our latest visit 1 Jul 12 was spur of the moment and we lucked in to book their last room. Our visit was excellent as all our other stays in the past. Beautiful house, grounds and hosts. Breakfast was delicious. Thanks again. Will be back :)

My 18 year old son and I were traveling Nova Scotia as a gift for his graduation. I wasn't sure how he would feel about bed and breakfast inns since we usually stay in traditional hotels when we travel as a family. He LOVED staying here. In fact, he said it was his favorite spot for the whole trip (and this included a high end hotel in Halifax). It really felt like "home" as we just came and went all day. Val serves wonderful breakfasts, had ideas for things to do and menus from local restaurants for guests to look through. The house itself and the yard/gardens were just lovely. One night they had a bluegrass jam session that was fun for evening entertainment. Our room had lovely cross ventilation through the windows but they had a fan in the room if needed (it was a heatwave while we were there).

The owners have established a gracious, friendly environment. The rooms I saw are all furnished differently with comfortable beds and sitting areas. The whole area is quiet and you do not hear street noise. It is a short walk into town. Breakfast is fantastic. You have a choice of main dishes but everyone receives homemade muffins and jam (2 kinds), and juice or fruit. It couldn't have been nicer.
